WJQ-308 Military Shovel Complete Review 

Been to one of the factories that make these shovels in China. The wooden handle design is to lower the cost. Actually you can't imagine how cheap the cost is to manufacture this thing and the factory's daily output on this product is super large. So I guess it is designed to be used and worn out and replaced very quickly with extremely low cost. It is a product designed specifically for large-scale usage within the existing logistic system in China rather than for individual survival at the end of the world.

You have a very versatile tool. All I got is an old pair of shoes.

The hokey sound track was used in the manufacturers original video, we just used a copy to produce our gear review.

Got one of these a year ago. ..and 2 crovels the extreme and the tactical. .and they are all great the wjc being the lightest of the 3 uts the easiest to lug around but the crovels are far sturdier. .that being said they all get good use and are perfect for an all in one tool. Thanks for the great video and if you get the chance try out a crovel if you liked this one I doubt you'll be disappointed.

I have a similar one with a triangular metal handle it broke so i got me old man to modify it, he gut out a new head from a 5mm thick piece of steel works perfect now.

I've never heard such cheerful background music on a video demonstrating a military product before...

I wasn't going to tune in because I hate it when people send me random video viewer...requests or whatever but I'm actually leaving for boot-camp at San Diego for the marine corps soon. I found this rather interesting and entertaining!

That thick central reinforcing rib connecting the shovel blade to the hinge seems like it would get in the way when splitting thicker kindling. Then again, the whole thing is made thin as is minimally viable to save on materials, so I can see the need for it. A thicker overall blade would obviate the need for the rib and make it more durable. Also it seems like the saw teeth aren't very sharp. A nice visual gag there when using it to saw the original handle though. Definitely a smart design; but I wonder as to the durability of the screw that holds the blade in different positions. The hinge seems to be nice and thick enough but the screw would be the failure mode, I think. Using one as a grapple might be good the first couple of times, but I wouldn't trust one with an older, fatigued screw to take my weight. I'm surprised that it was actually the handle that failed; but then again, it's probably whatever wood is cheapest so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

For this thing, it is the idea of functionality vs. durability. Think it as an extra large swiss army knife: it can do various of jobs, but you don't know when it will fail on you when you putting it through some hard use, say, using it as a grappling hook. Useful? Maybe. Reliable? Maybe not.

What was the price?

Well the handle fell off before he could turn the camera on for the review, but other than that looks like a quality shovel shaped piece of sheet metal.

The 5 star pentagram has been used in may things both good and bad (A matter of perspective in both cases)! Its society as a whole that has labeled these things as what they are. In this case it seems as if the 5 pointed pentagram has its own personal meaning which is all that matters. Symbols are only designs. How a person reflects on them is what is important. I cant tell you how many ppl Ive met want a spider web tattooed on their elbow. Until they hear why the majority of ppl get it lol.

That's a cool shovel but it's also laughably expensive for me. I'm cheap and poor so I think I'll stick to the old fashioned jam nut style for my folding shovel needs. I've found an easy and more importantly cheap way to improve that style. As manufactured, they all come with square sides for the jam nut to lock against. The corners quickly round off and the shovel head rocks no matter how hard you tighten the jam nut. This is exactly like a high centered 4x4. The solution is more ground clearance. This translates to the shovel as concave rather than square locking surfaces. The concave profile provides room for the corners to wear without high centering on the jam nut. It takes mere seconds with an angle grinder to do this mod and the results last for many years. My current favorite folding shovel is the Condor Claw. picks and mattocks work best for digging where I live and the claw is basically a folding pick and mattock. It also folds out to make a surprisingly useful pointed trowl that is especially useful for digging a hasty cat hole latrine pit. After watching the Chinese shovel fail video, I shock tested the claw's similarly attached wooden handle. That's the kind of fault I'd rather find at home.

That´s an amazing shovel....a real survingtool. I have an german "Bundeswehr" shovel...but the chinese one is more sophisticated IMHO Nice video btw ;)
