I just looked at this video and it gave me peace of mind. I'm watching videos to replace mine chain and sprocket on a 07 Fz6. Thank you for this video. I will probably watch it multiple times.

@@HalfClickUp If not to much to ask, important tools? I know I will need a torque wrench, and I have a ratchet set. But I saw you use a pretty big one for that. Was that 35 millimeters? Thanks again and if you're like dude you're asking too much, it's all good.

Great video, I redid my chain but will replace sprockets down the line. I bought a 120 link chain as it was cheaper than 118 link one. Standard length is cheapest. Takes 1 min to grind and punch out xtra links!

Sweet, what type chain did ya go with?
@kunalkhanna985

I used RK GB520GXW chain. It seems to be a quality product. I did use an RK cheaper chain 520 XSO (cheaper chain -part of 150 buck kit from dealer) earlier and it did not last very long. My current chain costing upwards of 100 bucks is of much better quality, I think RK has 5 lines of products of varying quality so look up what u buy there. I am seeing this video again as I am swapping sprockets now a 2-3k miles down the line from chain swap. Vortex front and JT rear - rear is same as your kit. I used the DID chain tool that cost 125 bucks but, it works very well and I highly recommend it (DID has a Japanese video dubbed in English that shows usage of that tool). Also, you have to see "delboys garage" tips on chain tool usage - those videos are a must for DIYers (Del is really an experienced mechanic who shares his wisdom on his channel)

My nuts stripped on my sprocket before I got anywhere near 57ft lbs. So I bought a new used one and it did it again. I've been rolling around for about 10 thousand miles with stripped sprocket bolts (onlynon the rear one) Yes I did it in a star pattern with a good torque wrench. Bike had 28 thousand miles on it and my original sprockets had more "meat " left on them than the new JT sprockets. I got the same kit you did. No issues. They definitely arnt OEM quality sprockets though. Good vid bud.
@HalfClickUp
@HalfClickUp 3 года назад
That’s crazy dude! I’ve never run into that issue. I’m also still running the sprocket set from this video after all this time and they’re both still good to go. Strange fact: back in the day, the old FZ6 called for 72 ft lb on the rear sprocket bolts and there was documented cases of people stripping those out, too. Seems their online community began opting for like 45 ft lb and red Loctite with great success. Anyways, I hate that happened to you man!

Thanks for reminding me that I need to tighten mine. Are X ring really better than O-ring in your professional-ish opinion? Cause my professional-not opinion has no idea. Also, pvc, great idea. I had to stand on the brakes with a breaker bar. My goal is to have enough left over chain lengths to make a complete, free chain some day. I just need about 20 more bikes and about 100 years to ride them all to the point of replacement.
@HalfClickUp
@HalfClickUp 4 года назад
HellishGrin460 well I’ve only ever bought X-ring chains because I’ve only ever bought DID; however, my understanding of X-ring design lends credence to its superiority considering how much mileage I’m getting out of these things. Absolutely worth any extra money they cost over traditional O-ring designs as far as I’m concerned. Also, it’s not in the video, but I had to use my metal breaker bar instead of the PVC when I tightened the front sprocket nut to 61ft lbs. because the PVC was just folding in half from the strain 😆

With your video and the official DID chain video I replaced my 09 FZ6R chain and sprockets. It was quite the challenge to get off my front sprocket, because I took my chain off first andthe nut was hella tight. I have a question, I'm familiar with the owner's manual but I was not able to find these torque measurements in it, where'd you get your information? THANK YOU fir your videos.
@HalfClickUp

I used an electric impact to get the front sprocket off. All of the bike’s torque specs are located on pages 2-14 through 2-17 of the factory service manual.

Yes center stands were a feature on the European XJ-6, and in fact if you poke your head under the area of your Fizzer’s kickstand, you’ll see the center stand mounting plates already there.

@@HalfClickUp honestly, not too often, besides I live cold weather state, I store the bike during winter and leave it outside during spring and summer, I don’t know if that affects it too.
@HalfClickUp
@HalfClickUp Год назад
@@jesusescamilla2243 lack of use and general exposure to the elements can degrade the chain’s lifespan. You have a unique scenario since you don’t ride very often. A cheap cover can go a long way for you. For example, I only ride my FZ6R on Fridays and in the track, so it spends the majority of its life just sitting outside. So, I picked up a cheap Nelson Rigg cover, and it helps protect the chain from moisture and humidity. It would be a nice little investment for you… doesn’t have to be an expensive one.
