In today's video I rip the carpet out of my 4x4 build and replace it with bed liner. This diesel swap is really coming along!

The only complaint I have with the bed liners like rustoleum and herculiner is the VOCs they release. Even once they dry they release VOCs. I live in GA so it’s bad during the summer in my Bronco 2. I have to drive with all the windows down. I still get headaches in from time to time. Hopefully you don’t run into the same issues I have. Ive never used it, but there is a product called lizard skin that’s better suited for applications inside the vehicle.

I was also worried about this. Frankly I think the cheaper rustoleum product I used might be more similar to normal oil based paint because after saying it was going to be nasty it actually wasnt. Hasnt smelled any worse than normal paint so far. Bad thing if I was using it in a bed, probably means it isnt as tough, but good for the interior. Additionally it isnt as “rubbery” as some bed liners. I wouldnt call it non slip, but its definitely not as slick as paint would be. Id rate it as in between a normal paint and a “real” bed liner. Either way I probably should have talked more about this, I’ll pin your comment so others are aware.

I love the wheel to body stance. What’s funny is that guys strive for that stance with extra wide wheels, spacers, tire stretching etc. On the other hand this rig is ALL hardware no filler.

I appreciate the hard work and documentation of this awesome truck! You are doing a great job! Better than anything most could do, respect the trade.

Really enjoying your build content. I find myself bummed you don’t post more but we all have a life to live. Keep up the great work! I loved your radius arm build, very jealous.

Could have brushed it on. The Hurculiner I used had huge chunks of rubber.

Definitely could! I do think spraying was a lot easier though, after I figured out which gun to use that is 😂

Just found your series, getting caught up. So far so good. Like the uniqueness. A couple of points I'd to bring up. 3.55 gears and 37" tires.. ummmmmm you are going to be needing all the torque of the cummins. My 86 F250, Dana 50 front with 460 gas motor and C6 on 33" tires, it really wants 3.73 gears and an Overdrive. Off the line pull is hurting. 3.55 and 37s.. is going to suck.. I'd go 4.10s minimum. Front spool and jumping in and out in and out to lock the one hub is also going to suck. Guess when you'll want the hub lock locked??? Right in the middle of that mud pit like in your early video where you are soaked in mud. Or halfway up a steep hill. I know expensive, but consider a locker and twin stick Transfercase. Just adding for fyi..

Thanks for the input! Havent decided on final gearing yet but gearing down is definitely on the table. Also the nv4500 has a very low first gear. For reference 3.55’s would put me at about 2k rpm’s at 80 IIRC (been a while since I did the calculations), and the 6BT has peak torque at around 1800. Definitely willing to gear down if needed but will lose top speed if I do so since 12 valves dont spin over about 2500 rpms stock. Either way I’ll be getting into the difs eventually since the axles came with open difs, so I’ll test drive it and verify before buying gears.

Surprised you didn't go vinyl flooring. Costs about the same as carpet, and you can have insulation between the vinyl and the metal for sound deadening, and to keep your feet from freezing in the winter.

Vinyl flooring isnt a bad idea at all, and its still something that could theoretically be done. Itd have to be custom since the floor is a completely different shape then stock now with the new trans tunnel. Either way it had to be painted to prevent corrosion. Thanks for the input!

@@BuildSomethingAuto I agree completely. Since you have to go custom with that monster of a transmission tunnel, if you want to go cheap, look for the full sized 4 door 3/4 ton and up trucks with the fleet model trim. I wouldn't be surprised if a pick and pull gives it to you with the purchase of anything else, as it's normally just a throwaway item to them. I know fleet F250 XL's will have a padded vinyl floor, as that's what is in mine. If you go that route, just make sure to power wash the padding to get the crud out of it, then let it dry. Then you can use any kind of vinyl repair patch/compound to seal the floor around the seat bolts. Either way, great work so far!
