YYC2LAX Ep.1 - EV road trip in a 7000 lbs Electric SUV!

This summer my wife and I, along with our 3 children, and our dog travelled in an all-electric Mercedes-Benz EQS450 SUV from Calgary, Alberta to Los Angeles, California and back. The ultimate goal was to challenge the range anxiety that we all share when it comes to the ownership of an Electric Vehicle.
We documented our entire trip and are releasing the series on RU-vid starting September 7th 2023. These videos will highlight both the challenges and the advantages of the EQ technology.

I drove from Winnipeg to Calgary on 1 tank 1300+ km in my VW 2.0 TDI. "Diesel Gate Car". Cost $68.00.

That is amazing! Mercedes-Benz BlueTec models have similar ranges and efficiency. The EV models are very reminiscent of our diesel powered vehicles. Both offer amazingly smooth torque and incredible range!

Cool story, I charge at home have solar panels and storage batteries. I put on 1100 miles on the car last month and paid zero dollars and zero cents 😅

@@dingdongbell32 cool..now eat up 50% depreciation on evs over 3yrs and replace your batteries cost or charge in -40c.. not worth the trouble. Also i can run my car on bio diesel from restuarant fryers..cost me 0$.

Incredible video. This is HANDS-DOWN the most REAL / Genuine video on #electricvehicles that I've ever seen. The manufacturer and other #car sites should really look at this and see how to create videos for real people. No ads, no plugs, no random superfluous information. This is like #realitytv but in a vehicle. Similar to coffee in cars, but instead, it's a real family in an electric vehicle. Love this!

Good video but not sold on them. So 6 charging stations to plug into ,what if there is 10 ev. You don't go anywhere. Be nice to see eco users fighting over charging stations...never seen a jerry can of charge juice yet. So electricity,once depended upon like fuel,will be taxed,raised and non efficient. Supply and demand economics. Should ride nice as it's twice the weight as same hydrocarbons cars. When their is emergency power outages,you need diesel hydrotrucks and bucket trucks to fix the lines. Ps your still driving on HYDROCARBONS PAVEMENT. all electric vehiclesmust be used on gravel roads from now on😊

There is no BC hydro 350kW. Especially in Invermere 😅. The car looks incredible though.

It's great that Benz has the option but anybody can bring me gas I can even use my feet and get it myself if it is not to far to walk

Why walk when you can wait for the roadside assistance to arrive while using the reserve power features in the cabin? The EQ-Intelligence is brilliant and makes anyone smart enough not to run out of charge. Visit us for a test drive and see for yourself!

Now do this trip in middle of winter lol this video still doesn't convince me to ever buy a ev. Imagine a unexpected white out and charging stations are down. Than you waiting and stuck. Probably getting cold. A nice gas or diesel you can keep going lol

We are actually waiting for the cold weather to blow in so we can document a winter EV road trip. What happens if you are unable to find a diesel station in whiteout winter conditions in your pick up truck?

@MercedesBenzDowntownCalgary You gonna go a lot further than a ev in -30 -40. In the prairies is where I live so it's more colder and there's no charging stations. The colder it is the harder the battery works.

Wanna race? 😎 Our goal was not getting there quickly. Just getting there in an EV and what is involved. The charging did not slow us down but the family stops sure did. I'm sure if it was a race that we would likely win! With 38 moving parts vs. 3800 moving parts on a gas vehicle, we have 1000 times better chance of not having something go wrong.

Thank you for the recommendation! We are actually planning to document a trip this winter in an EQ but we will actually be heading north! Heading south only gets warmer as you get beyond the snowbelt. Stay tuned for that production in the new year!

Fortunately, Mercedes-Benz offers Electric, Hybrid, Diesel, and Gasoline motors. None are better than the other, some are just better for some than others.

I'm anti electric car - really 7000 ibs for this car? Very heavy - so much for the tires lasting that long. Also I can have my gas car filled up less than 5 mins. Electric 45 to 1 hour to fill up. Screw that. Plus do you have any idea how much mining goes into the lithium for that battery. These self righteous electric car drivers have been brainwashed. Ya but you spent $100K for that F-----G electric car plus they can shut your car down at anytime. Go ahead and spend your money but I support Oil and Gas and petroleum and without it, we have NO society.

We still offer a wide range of gas vehicles and are also supporters of the oil & gas industry. Are you aware of how dependent EVs are on oil and gas when it comes to production? Furthermore, do you know what fossil fuel is used to produce most of the world's electricity? Mercedes-Benz produces its EVs using only ethical sources. Stay tuned for more info on that in future episodes.
