We purchased our first camper in Oct 2106. As of Nov 2022, we've put on 53,674 miles on the camper and stayed the night in all of the US 48 lower states. Traveled to British Columbia and Alberta Canada as well. Campground reviews, places to see and things to do. I'll also share.. Repair, Maintenance, upgrades, mistakes and WINS! 2 Seniors, no pets, and tips for smaller camper owners.
We still plan to do more trips in the years to come.
2017 Rockwood Mini Lite 2109s made by Forest River. Yes, we love it and it fits our travel style perfectly.
My front burner came loose also. Thanks for explaining the YANK method of removing the black top. I will be using high temp loctite on the screws, that were loose.
Thanks for the tip. When we purchased our trailer in 2021 I referred to your helpful videos often. It shouldn’t have been a surprise that you had a solution for this pesky problem. Thanks and much appreciated.
Got to our campsite and this exact thing happened! Your video was a lifesaver and time saver! You also taught me this was a very easy fix, thank you for such a great walk through video!
Awesome! Glad it helped. Even with the blue glue, it could still come loose. I wiggle the tops of the burners every now and then to be sure they are tight during the year. happy camping my friend. Michael
Thanks for your little message at the end about the grounds. So how do you clean them out without going down the drain? That’s one easy thing about a drip machine with a filter.
I will wipe it out with a paper towel and rinse out the pot with some water and spill that into a trash bag or into a waste receptacle. You can also rinse into an open paper napkin like a filter.
Didn't even make it halfway through before I realized where he was going with this, and then distinctly remembered not closing that valve 🤦♂️. Thanks.
I have a 1996 Casita with a Suburban 120V and propane water heater. There’s a switch inside the trailer to light the water heater using propane. I have no control panel in the trailer for electric water heater so in my case do I just turn the switch to on at the water heater and leave it on all the time making sure to ALWAYS have water in the water heater? It seems like you’d be putting a lot of hours of use on your element and using electricity unnecessarily IF you’re not using hot water much. Does it sound reasonable that Casita would expect you to go outside to turn on the switch and have hot water IF you don’t want to use your propane?
Personally, I don't turn on the outside electric switch until a half hour before I need hot water. We only need HOT water if we shower. Warm water works for washing dishes, but again, I can go out and turn the electric switch ON before doing dishes. The tank keeps its temperature very well. Even overnight, we'll find we have warm water in the morning to wash up. As long as you have water in the tank for heating, you can certainly leave the electric switch on at all times. Happy camping. 🙂
Glad to see your post. I wanted to thank you for your tip. We did the can foam around our inner wheel wells as you did. Works great. Keeps the dust out. Our trailer is the same as yours. Take care.
Yeah, had a lot to do getting settled again and missed camping. Camper is doing way better than I thought. My 12v system, isn't running off the batteries. It may be the fuse on the hitch section. Gotta check that out or look up 'why' on the Rockwood Mini Lite group on Facebook. I think I'll do an 8 yr review in Sept. Can't believe it's been that long! Holy Cow!
Hey Susan! I hope you enjoy Colo. It ain't cheap, but if you love mountains? You can't go wrong. You will both get quite a workout up there. LOL I have a Trigger Thumb that was hurting more and more. Gotta wear this dang splint for 5 more weeks? UGH, it sucks getting old. LOL
We off road more than the average camper. The tread wears down a lot faster on gravel, rock, and dirt roads than just highway driving. Gotta pay the price. 🙂
Pull them out completely. There is sometimes a mark at some point on the drawer that shows indentations. When the drawers are out, measure with a tape the distance to the back stop. Then measure your drawer lengths. If your unit is new, that's a manufacturer problem. If it is only a matter of "lightly" not closing all the way, you can add a magnetic strip to the 'meeting' edges or even Velcro.
I have the same Dometic unit as in your video. My refrigerator stays at 25 to 29 degrees all the time. No matter where I put the clip on thermistor. Unit is literally brand new, we just picked it up a week ago.
Did you get a manual when you bought the camper? If not, Google the model # online and download the manual. I've never heard of one being TOO cold. There could be a setting besides the Thermistor on the fridge. I'll check my manual tomorrow. Also, is the Thermistor on the back of the fridge, coming through the back of the fridge, connected ok to the mother board electronics?
I read in my manual that the temperature is preset at the factory for the unit as a whole. The inside sliding thermistor controls the refrigerator section somewhat however. I would try turning off the fridge completely, doors opened, and let it come to room temperature. Then power the unit back up with the thermistor slid all the way to the bottom. Check the temperature again after 24 hours. There should be a label on the inside of the fridge on the side somewhere stating the model of your fridge. If it continues to be too cold, the factory setting is probably incorrect. I couldn't find out how to override the factory setting however. You may want to collect the Model and Serial# of the unit from the inside sticker and call Dometic. I know that's a hassle, but you need to get this corrected. There has to be a way to override or change the factory setting. It may be on the power/control module. I did replace my power/control module when the gas function was not working properly. I have a video up on that as well. I got the module at a Camping World parts department for under $100. Good luck sir. Michael
This was great & solved my much of my problem. THANKS. I also cleaned my aerators on each faucet to get like new flow. They had all worked great at the end of last season. I blew my lines to winterize and nothing worked when I filled my tank and the start of the season. This fall I'm going to clean my filter and aerators after I blow the lines. I believe I blew gunk into the aerators last time.
