I'm all about projects and having fun while learning. I'm usually hasty and break almost as many things as I fix but hey, who cares right.... Im trying to get into machining more so I can make some really fun projects....
P.S. I need a RU-vid friend to help me think of fun garage/shop projects
sry, I'm a fast talker and shit at making polished videos. BTW, The heat shrink machines is going strong 3ish years later but I only use it every other day as I'm a small 1 man shop.
@@HuskyMachining no you’re good bro! I love your channel. I’m graduating this year and I’m looking into picking up my first machine in a couple years. Dw, I’m shit at making vids too😂.
@@HuskyMachining Thank you! so on campus I actually run a machine almost just like yours. It’s a Haas VF3 with the 5 axis trunnion as well as a Hurco VM20i with a 4th axis and I love the rigidity of a actual Cnc machine so I don’t want a prototrak or a retrofit knee mill for example. Also I really like the side arm tool changer and having actual full flood coolant, so right now I’m heavily leaning towards a Syil X7 or a Syil X9. The X7 would fit in a garage and it’s much cheaper, but the X9 has a bt40 spindle and is preloaded with all the features I wanted. Also the X9 can fit a 5axis trunnion in the future which is like to get. So I’m pretty torn but I think a Syil X7 decked out with some extra options is where I’m leaning. My plan is to wait a couple years till I have a solid income and can afford to put down half the machine in cash and finance the rest at $500 a month. Which if I couldn’t machine enough income my main job would still be able to cover the costs of the CNC.
Thank you! I have been so busy making free robot parts for kids this last year that I have not made any youtube videos and I kinda miss it. thanks for watching!
I have no clue. The last part I made for him goes to the same assembly and if I had to guess, I'm thinking it's some reactor mount to liquid cool something
There are a lot of local combat robot events and their super fun to go to, even just to watch but I mostly love building them. Idk what part of the world your in but there may be local events in your area
@@HuskyMachining Im all the way over here in good ol Sweden. Probably arent any here but know knows, there might be. Used to love watching hypnodisc and razer on Robotwars back in the day and would love for something like that show to return but perhaps even more extreme :)
@@HuskyMachining haha holy shiet would you look at that. Thanks for finding that, I wouldnt even have tought of looking honestly. Not sure its a blessing or curse yet tho, dont have time for a hobby or another project! xD I see you run a shop aswell so I bet you know all about that.
I do. There is a local combat robot chapter just a 45 min drive away. I built an arena so I can bring it down to the tri-annual tournament so now we have 2 arenas to compete in (saves a slot of time). Its super fun, you should see if there local competitions near you
@@HuskyMachining want to build and design it together? I mean.. I've got use for a finger extender (lost a piece of my middle finger in a lathe mishap... Can't find it anymore lol) but an entire third arm would be... Handy
Thanks! I once though I wanted to do larger parts but I hate every job with large parts as the stock cost so much and I always end up having a high scrap rate
I have been in Utah for about 6 years and I just heard about it a few months ago. Are you local? The first one I went to I just watched and it was still pretty fun, you should come out one of the times
@@HuskyMachining I'm in Roy/Ogden. We've watched Battle Bots on RU-vid for the last couple years. I've seen some of these local competitions on RU-vid but hadn't seen anything about local ones. I'll bet my boys would love it!
@@intjonmiller lol, what a small world. I'm over near West Haven. They do competitions in SLC 2 times a year and there open to the public. There are a bunch of differnt weight classes and they do 1lb and 3lb bots and it's pretty fun to watch 2 dozen robots tear each other apart and about 1/3 of all the competitors are under the age of 10
@@HuskyMachining Definitely something we would enjoy! I have a home machine shop in Roy, and I work at the GMC dealership in Riverdale. Right up the street!
@@intjonmiller That's cool! I see on your about me that you make youtube videos too? what channel name do you upload under? I think the next SLC robot tournament is in May. Your so close you could come test fight some bots in my backyard test arena too if you ever wanna see how they look or see the shop
It is a blast to make and fight the bots! I didn't know they had competitions near me at first. I just build a small arena in my backyard and was fighting with the misses which was also pretty fun
How about adding some proximity sensors to keep it from colliding with the wall? You can add a special gesture such as two taps on the control pad to temporarily turn it off when you intend to collide with something.
I'm still working on the steering settings (expos and rates) but its not too bad, well better than my last 2 wheeled bot anyways. I was also trying to drive all fast and I think I should really lower the max throttle so it's no so squirrely
Thanks! I need to finish editing that video soon. I just got distracted by a new hobby but it will be winding down next week so I will get back to making videos
Thanks. The motor has internal gearing that bring the max rpm to something like 400 rpm and there is a dc speed controller to vary the speed from 0-400rpm
I didn't know this was a thing either until last month. It's cool as the rules are pretty much anything goes except saying under your weight class. I picked the 1.5kg class to start out with and they are so much fun!!! I did make my bot from scratch and im on my 4th iteration of this bots design so far. They just had a tournament near me yesterday and I got destroyed by a bunch of kids... it was awesome
thanks! I'm actually just about to sell my cnc lathe to buy another mill (I know that sounds like Heresy to you) as I never see lathe work and it's scarey as hell to run
thanks! I'm still waiting for the CMMs MFG to do a final calibration but they came out and set it up and said it works so I'm relieved (bought it t auction and didn't know if it worked or not).
Man I subscribed to your channel a long time back when you were just some dude making spinning tops in your garage. Is this your personal business now? Fuck you've grown!!
oh shit, that was a long time ago. Yeah, top making as a hobby turned into me wanting to learn how to be a machinist, to me running this business full time now just just over 2 years.
Hi there! Im currently in the process of building a pottery wheel for university. Have you tried to add a foot pedal, or replacement the knob with one?
@@HuskyMachining Do you maybe have a link for that? All the ones i can find are used for golf carts and are spring loaded.. using something like a volume pedal (for an electric guitar) would be perfect..
haha, thanks! I have had to work a lot lately so no time to work on my projects but hopefully soon I'll make a video about either my electric go kart conversion or my rc tank in working on
