Hello Members! I am The Costco Dude!! I've been a Costco employee for 15 years, and I am here to SPILL all the details you need to know to get the best Costco experience. Whether you've been a member for 30 years, or are thinking of getting your membership card for the first time, THIS is the channel for you! Follow me, learn with me, and ask me ALL your questions!
I’ve worked in the Majors department for the last eight years and I’m constantly in and out of optical and constantly trying to help out members when there aren’t any employees there to help out I am currently waiting for an apprenticeship to open up because I really want to get into that department!
Tire purchases are definitely included in the 2% rewards check, though I should have mentioned Tire installation, balancing, and disposable fees don't count
You're right, Costco does make money from the items they sell, but they make more off of the memberships. The marks ups on merchandize are so low they barely make anything from that. Here's an article if you wanna read it: hhsjournalism.com/feature/2024/05/16/the-way-costco-makes-money/#:~:text=So%20all%20the%20money%20that,items%20are%20in%20the%20red. You can also ask any supervisor or manager next time you're at a Costco :)
One simple thing here. Costco job is easily can make wage over 60k-70k WITHOUT any college degree if you work over 4-6years.(It can be early if you get supervisor position. Example one of my coworker got supervisor position after 1year from his hiring date and his wage is $31.40 per hour now.)
I went through Costco. Typically you first get Cross trained in the department and then you take the tests. That way Costco pays for them. If you go on your own you'll have to pay around $150 per test.
@@CostcoDude Thank you man, Just got out of my interview after applying yesterday for cashier assistant with 2 people from HR, they told me to come in tomorrow for another interview, don't really know what that means but we'll see what happens.
Kirkland batteries are terrible! They are not the same as Duracell batteries. Kirkland batteries often go bad, leaking chemicals and ruin appliances. I will always choose Duracell over Kirkland Signature brand
I work at a retail store and it's crazy what people return, I understand if something doesn't fit or is broken when opened, but shouldn't people be more responsible consumers to me it's legalized shoplifting, many items can't be resold so everyone pays for people's poor decisions
I talked to a few different employees from a few different Costco's in my area and they all said the same thing. You should definitely check with your manager! Unless it's a regional thing?? We're NW
You can actually check the price of an item by doing, i think 6 sign on, if i remember correctly. There are lots of little cheats like that imbedded in the olllddd system. 16 sign on is to check a shop card balence. Only works on shop cards not visa gift cards or gift of membership cards. Ill check and edit this tomorrow, I haven't worked at membership for a while but there are lots more. I still have all my notes and work close by and utilize the AS400 fairly regularly so if you have any questions I'd love to Answer them!
When working at the counter we'd see a couple thousand dollar checks, usually a business but occasionally a perosnal account. It was rare and everyone would always gasp. Whenever we'd ask what they mainly bought with us it was usually just answered with, " supplies and a bit of everything "
I used to work at the membership desk, here with the technicalities for those who want more details 😌 When it comes to dealing with issues we are allowed to help you navigate the citi mobile app, however not all of us are well versed in this and it can take a long time. It has no annual fee with an active membership, regardless of membership level. No foreign transaction fees, and rewards are global. Gas food travel costco and everything else purchases receive rewards everywhere credit cards are accepted. Usually a higher apr! It is a free card only if you have an active Costco membership AND you pay your bills on time. The apr on cash back cards is typically high, and this card is no exception. Its not the worst, but prioritize paying your bill. The temporary card printed if you get approved right away is 1. Not promised, as sometimes they will not allow you to print it unless you call and request (very rare) and two, can only be used at Costco stores. To use it online at Costco, com you have to register your card online with city. You have to wait for a physical card to make purchases outside the store, this unfortunately includes the gas stations at most locations as it requires a register and scanning gun to be used. 5-10 business days is how long it takes to mail, depending on location. When it comes to 4% on gas: Its 4% up to 7 thousand dollars (in rewards, so once your rewards go up to 7,000 in cash back from gas alone) then it is 1% from there out. 4% back on gas applies to all gas stations and ev charging stations (its baised on the tax code so pay at the pump whenever available!) EXCEPT gas stations attached to other grocery stores (ex. Sams club and fleet farm) * 3% back on restaurants and travel: This is limited only in that is has to be applicable tavel. This includes, rental vehicles, hotels, flights, all bookings through Costco travel and other large agencies (smaller agencies sometimes have an incorrect tax code), any restaurant including fast food fine dinning and coffee shops. (Same exclusion as far as tax codes go, helpful tip is a starbucks inside a larger store often will not count as it goes under the larger stores tax code) the other exclusions for travel are local, taxes and fairies for example do not get any rewards back. * 2% on Costco purchases: Any and all Costco purchases will get 2% barring the big example, gas, which gets 4% back. I do not know if it includes the pharmacy, but I don't think so. It does include the food court, (despite it being a food court it depends on the tax code of Costco so only 2% is given), the hearing aids center, optical center, tire center, on all purchases made in the store, and on all purchases made to costco, com when online shopping for items. * 1% back on everything else: Any exclusions made previously or not noted will get one percent back when you pay with this card. This includes gas purchased at gas stations associated with grocery stores, groceries and items purchased at other stores, food or drink purchased at stores with a differing tax code(excluding the Costco food court), and any purchases that dont fit the criteria of the other levels of rewards. * *These rewards apply EXCLUDING all instances where city states it doesnt in the fine print, that is their protection against fraud, it applies to all levels of rewards however those who don't depend on fraud it more than likely will not affect.
The Amazon credit card only gets you 5% back on Amazon purchases and some select stores. If you make a lot of Amazon purchases or shop where those benefits apply, absolutely, but it's not everywhere
I saw so,e one order it when I was at Costco and they started to complain because there was hair in it. And guess what, ladies all in there making the food :/ ( no hate I’m a girl)
That's a tough one, all I know they have a Costco in China but it is a separate company due to China's laws so you have to purchase a separate membership
So, I pay the membership once a year. Costco has to be making $ off of us (we're 2, too!) during the year cuz how could they only get profit off my lil membership fee? How do they make enough $ to earn billions - or is it that so many millions of people sign up daily? Tell!
Well, Costco has a few million members worldwide, and even if they all just paid the base membership, that still brings them up to about 7.7 billion a year. This allows Costco keep their prices low. We should also consider that although prices are lower they're still making money off of the product. It really adds up! :) it's crazy! It makes me realize that even with all the returns it's not enough to make a dent in their gains
The devil is in the details, Costcos profit, keyword profit, is from memberships and that is why the items can cost less, but it's complicated. Most stores have really high profit margins, this includes what it takes to keep the store up and running and the actual profit for the company. if the item is at a low price they're either sacrificing some of the profit margin to get more items off the shelf and increase sales, or the item costed the store waaayyy less than the price for them. Now Costco still has this 'profit margin', however they have very strict rules about how high it can be within the company, and almost all of it goes to keeping the store open, keeping the employees paid, all that good stuff. This works out so that as long as you save your membership fees in comparison to if you bought what you did somewhere else, you're saving money by shopping with us, all the employees get paid and the store stays open, and the big wigs and stockholders get paid, it's a win win win for most people
Essentially, we have a lower profit margin on almost all the items because the membership covers that for the company. They also scrounge up whatever they can by writing off donations, Costco donates a huge amount of food and material, they recycle like crazy, and they also do what most stores do by having companies bid on where their item gets placed in the store. If an item gets approved to be sold by Costco, that company can bid to have a better spot. This is what almost every store does, but it certainly smoothes out the amounts
@@barbrastanwick3278 ty for that info - I really appreciate having better insight by what you wrote. And to think I always thought that a floor plan determined product placement, not the product seller's placement fees. I STILL have a lot to learn!
@CostcoDude Hello! Thanks for all the great videos with good information! I have some questions about the application, does Costco hire people who had their education in Mexico? I'm just wondering if there will be any change in getting hired since all of my education was done in Mexico, but I have worked for the last 16 years in the food industry in the US.
We renewed our last month so perfect timing. We’ll keep ours. It’s a regular grocery store to us now so I’ll pay the increase. Look, it all is going up anyway so no surprise to me.
Hi, I may have been hired to start part time at costco as night merch... I am weighing my opportunity with my current 40 hr grocery store job. Can you guide me to where to find pay scales for costco. I want to know how much I can eventually earn... what rate do certain positions cap out at?? Want to make a decision whether it's worth leaving my current job for costco.
Starting July 22nd of this year, the starting wage is $19.50. that's what you'd be making. If you work Sundays you'd get time and a half. Costco employees get raises every 1040 hours which is roughly every 6-9 months depending on the hours you work. The current cap for merch I believe is $29.95 and it'll also go up $0.50 on July 22nd. Clerks make an extra dollar. So cashiers, deli, and membership. And if you go into a specialized department like optical or hearing aid you can make as much as $37/hour with the proper licencing
Actually I just remembered, licences are different in every state. You can always ask for the employee handbook and it'll have All the info on your state for those specialized wages
@CostcoDude doesn't that pose potential issues to gain more members as well as keeping members if they keep raising the membership fee every half decade?
It’s ok for me. Costco pays a fair wage with benefits to their employees. My executive membership pays for itself with my cash back every year. Once again, this is my situation. I think they also have a credit card with perks but I don’t have one.
I believe $5 more per year in comparison to how much money you save by purchasing stuff at Costco is well worth it. And considering it's been going on since 1992 with their first increase, I think Costco will remain stable with members. Though I am sure many people will cancel memberships at first, most of them tend to come back 😅
Id rather costco stop sending the monthly magazine and have them save me the $$$ Unfortunately Im well aware that they send it as its a big advertisement
