Hey, I'm J and I'm obsessed with digital characters. I want to help people that are interested in Character Art. Subjects like 3D Modeling, Zbrush Sculpting, Unreal Engine, Game Art, and Rendering. By sharing some of my thoughts, experiences and techniques, I hope to inspire others to create things. Whether it's tutorials or time-lapses, I'd like to create helpful videos for those interested in digital characters and art that are informative and entertaining. I want to encourage others to make art, try new things and grow. I hope to create a community that is supportive and encouraging. Have fun!
Have you ever had to deal with development crunch and constant requests for change? I'm just thinking about what happened to Mick Gordon and his music for Doom Eternal. They kept rejecting music and pushing his deadlines. I'm curious how much that happens with other art departments.
Hi there J, just a noob question: If I’m going to use multiple udim of 8k texture maps will it also affect my machine? like will it slow down unreal engine?
What's the point of doing a procedural eye that only can be used inside blender, or there are ways to bake all that colour, information in to textures?
It’s the most common DCC for games and movies. It’s still mostly preferred by animators and studios have long time investments in in-house tools and expertise they’ve built for Maya. In other words if you had to learn just one DCC to work as a character artist for games, it would still by Maya imo. But Blender had a bright future and may become the standard eventually
I’ve been doing 3D for 2 years, but only now have I begun to realize how important primary forms are. Before that, I missed this moment, thinking that it didn’t matter. Thanks for the video.
Probably gonna run it again later this year and open enrollment again around August maybe. Sign up to the email list on the web page to be notified. There will be a few pricing tiers to choose from
hi J, what would you say between choosing to use fibermesh or exporting the mesh for xgen? would be a choice because time issues? the resulting details in fibermesh seems to be like a wip against xgen but because of the tool limitations itself, your work is awesome.
Thanks, yea fiber mesh to me is for sketching or anything that isn’t meant to move on to a more polished 3d render. XGen gives you all the control you need to make any hairstyle and it’s non destructive
Sorry but According to my understanding, I wanna make one correction... Collection is actually a set of multiple descriptions... You can have multiple descriptions within one collection... Thank you...
Hey i have question though suppose i have tiger skin texture nd i want to follow the exact tiger skin pattern texture to the hair in marmoset how can i do that?
What qualifications do you need to be most likely to get hired for this profession? Like do you just need to make a great portfolio or do you need qualifications like uni degrees of college courses or online courses and if so which are the best? I’ve only just left school and I know what I want just not the route to get there. I want to work with the exact mediums that this guy does and I really need insight bc I’m really confused lol
I made another video about this but essentially it comes down to the portfolio. Degrees don’t matter. Experience does. So to break in, the experience of creating good looking character models with the right software is reflected in the portfolio
Description is in a collection so when you said what you did was wrong it wasnt A collections is a collection of descriptions So ill have a collection named “girl character” Inside that ill have descriptions “Brows” “Eyelashes “ “Hairstyle” ….
Great video man! I just have 1 question, how can I get the "DLSS Setting mode" in viewport option as you have? Just to be clear, I installed DLSS plugin and enabled that in plug-ins settings...
Subscribed. I struggled to find a good tutorial on topology explanation on RU-vid until I came across this video. It explains the concept very effectively. I hope those learning 3D modelling discover this video first, avoiding any confusion caused by incorrect or inaccurate tutorials.
Hi J, Superb video, I make your tutorial, everything is fine except for one thing. The density for hair should be around 200, but for me, I have to put it very high to have the same density as you. The face of my character has the scale of a basic sphere. I put the width at 0.01, if I increase it the hair is not beautiful, I increased the number of guides too but it does not work either. I don’t understand where my mistake came from. If someone has the solution I am interested! Thanks :)
