Doesn't work in my TS-464. Its a new device. The system volume is even located on SSDs. The qnap script to log the filesystem accesses doesn't show anything related to the HDDs, too. Still there are random access every couple of seconds or minutes. No spin down. "sudo hdparm -Y /dev/sd?" does spin down my drives actually. But due to a RAID 5 configuration it seems to get back spin immediately again. Which kind of makes sense.

Are these hdparm settings stored in Linux or written to the drive controller itself?

Thanks for this. I’ll keep my Promise Pegasus R6 from 2011 and put 18TB drives in it rather than buying a new unit. Only TB1 but I get nearly 800MB/sec Raid 5 and it has been totally reliable. It’s hardware raid which, I think, is key: I don’t trust Softraid at all.

HDD spindown used to work on my TS-228A, until they released a patch a few years ago. Now it logs to my drives every 5 seconds and they wont spindown anymore. Cannot turn loggin off anymore either since we now have this atrocious Q-Log center. I will never buy this piece of garbage brand every again, dumb amateurs.

Needs to be re-worked, as the first steps are broken due to re-organization of the M365 Admin centers.

If you have a newer Android and an older car, then try changing to version 1.3, this worked for me with a Pixel 5 and a 2016 BMW.

Software based RAID on macOS should only be done with DiskUtility (which is pretty limited). The alternative is hardware RAID which is not ideal because there is no easy way to verify what the controller is doing.

I have 2 Acasis enclosures one with Samsung 980 PRO 3 TB and one with Samsung 990 PRO 2 TB. Both get 2800 r/w on my Mac Studio Ultra.

I suspect you might be having a problem with the combination of soft raid and OS X and not an actual problem with the hardware itself. I have multiple copies of the unit but the USB3 version and use them with a FreeBSD file server and ZFS and they have been nothing but fast and rock solid. Maybe it might be thunderbolt three, but I doubt it. The USB3 version does 10G speeds, so if your Macs have that as USB3, you can probably find out pretty quick whether it was a hardware problem or software problem.

so if i download a file on it that may have a virus, my pc will be completely fine if it does have a virus?

I own the OWC ThunderBay 4 mini, with Apple Raid 0, with a Mac mini. No I don't use their raid software. I also use Samsung SSD on this system. It backs up my MacBook Pro with Time Machine and never had an issue with it. Before I purchased this unit I read a lot of reviews about their raid software not working correctly. So, I knew from the start I wouldn't use their software. I work off this system almost daily and never had an issue with it to this day. I like it because I can switch the Unit from the Mac mini to my MacBook Pro and macOS just reads it like a big drive. But for most people that need the Raid Support I would tell them to get an NAS with 10G network support. It is about the same price and you can do so much more with a NAS unit like Synology then you could with just this Unit. I just needed it for fast file access that is why I got this unit.

I found that this method did not help me. I wanted to install and old version of office 365 on to a win7pro OS. this method and others involving the command prompt and even and old version of the installer(setup.exe) did not work, kept getting the "Microsoft Office Has Stopped Working" error! Then I found that I (5years ago) made a 2018 office365 install disc DVD which work fine! just install it then let upgrade and it upgrades to Version 2002 build 12527.22253 Excel 16.0.12527.22079 then turn off updates
