Thanks Jeff enjoyed the video and front porch. God is all we need ,and he will guide us down the path he intended for us. God bless you and your Family.
I’m a little disappointed… I don’t know much I guess- I thought the bird would make drumming sounds. I’m looking for a drummer 🥁 In Wisconsin 🧀 RU-vid pranked me.
Thank You Jeff, the fact that you made this video years ago goes to show the longevity of this sport/hobby lives on. As long as we share with each other the beauty and places God has given us, with each other, and keep it interesting, it will truly be around for generations to come. Thank You!
Stevn, The Driftless is a very special place and will always be one of my favorite places to catch trout....something about catching nice trout while standing in a stream right beside a herd of cows! I am only about 90 minutes north of the Wisconsin Driftless and in fact, we have a few brook trout streams here locally... Jeff
My friend Jeff can even catch 18” smallmouths without even trying, while untangling line from his boot!!! … see in the 4 minute mark… better to be lucky than good? Jeff is BOTH. Great message too from the front porch! Perseverance!
clearly better to be lucky than good! Very funny moment for me for sure. Once while fly fishing in Missouri for brown trout....I was walking and allowing my fly to drag behind me, not paying attention and a 20inch brown gobbled up my streamer and ripped off across the stream. Funny but often I learn from these mistakes and am painted a picture of what the fish are actually looking for in a retrieve..... Jeff
Easiest place I ever fished, I remember guys wading in the middle of the stream casting to the other side and I would cast from shore right in line where they were wading and hooking up with fish after fish while they’d stair in disbelief they were standing right beside the fish.
There is a reason for what you have described....as you wade, you kick up debris and lots of food and the trout follow along feeding off of this table fare.... Jeff
@@jcarmichaelable that and I just don’t think the other side of the stream is where the fish always are, it’s human nature to cast to the other side of the shore when the fish could be right at a persons feet. Also that stream is absolutely packed with trout, you can cast about anywhere and hook one.
thanks....I was so hoping to get the camera and find little grouse running around everywhere....but knew when there was not egg shells that the brood had been lost! Jeff
Very interesting, Jeff! Yeah, kind of sad but part of nature. I saw a crow last year carrying something red. The crow landed on the ground, so I pulled my car closer and discovered it was a male Cardinal. Thanks for the video!
Sad but for sure a part of nature....not sure what or how the PETA people would feel about this but nature can for sure be cruel.....good to hear from you. Jeff
I am not totally sure as I have now been fishing from the voyager float tubes for over 20 years and a couple of my boats have been around since the beginning.....I would say the fish cat is better quality....but not sure worth the extra cost.
Jason, Good to hear from you...I have talked to other men who don't feel like losing their dad was such a loss and it seems kind of sad to me....I am guessing that they just didn't have that relationship that my father and I had...or like you and your father had. What I do know is that my dad and I did about all we could together and thus there aren't any regrets looking back. In my head and heart, I think this lack of a good strong father is the single issue with most of the young kids today....maybe I am just old fashioned? Anyway.....thanks for the input... Jeff
Jeff: Enjoy your videos. I notice, you never put a fish on the rod. Even on this video, with that good sized 17 incher, you just kept stripping it in. Do you ever reel up the slack and fight the fish on the rod? Thanks. Thom
Actually I almost never go to the reel....after a few fish I have figured out how to fight a fish w/o going to the reel. The few times I have gone to the reel were for big musky or when fighting a fish in very heavy current. I have this theory that most folks end up losing fish trying to get the line onto the reel....maybe I am wrong....but it never crosses my mind.... jeff
I have a caddis sports nevada float tube. Absolutely the best way to fish. I dont take it on big lakes with motorized boats, but there are several lakes/ponds that are kayak/canoe only. If you've never done float tube fishing before, you won't regret it. I agree with Jeff's comments on fins. Buy good ones, my 1st set were cheap, and the tightening mechanism failed while in the water...and now 1 of my fins resides underwater. You get what you pay for.
I agree, with fins you don’t need an anchor. And it’s great exercise. I’m looking forward to getting out, now that school is out “ for the summer!” Front porch talk is a great addition. Also love the Bible passage and what it means to you.
I really like the front porch idea! I also like the angle at which you filmed it. You have a beautiful home, Jeff! Thanks for the words of encouragement, sir. Yes indeed, we all have our crosses to bear. Good video and take care!😊
Jason, Good to hear from you....thanks for the kind words, we are happy with the cabin....especially after a few years of hard work. Looks like the weather down your way has been pretty rough.....the Huskers and Hawks got hit really hard last night! Stay safe and enjoy your fishing season.... jeff
John, Thanks for checking in....we are all great. I am sure you know, but I have moved to NW Wisconsin and love every bit of it.....just got in from a small lake where I caught a nice bunch of bass.....stay in touch... Jeff
Stevn, I watched eagerly the entire day (The Weather Channel) from up here in northern Wisconsin.....unfortunately we had a total wash out, but what an incredible show! Would've loved to been back down in southern Indiana to watch....but not with that many people! Jeff
Only occasionally.....to be honest, I like pike and on our main lake, anytime I catch a pike in mid 20's I keep those as they are (my opinion) the cream of the crop.....
great video jeff, couple questions, on you six weight, what length leader do you use? And on the previous video with your 3 wt what length rod is your 3 wt rod? Thanks for sharing your wisedom.
because we are fishing streamers for trout, in very clear water....I can keep my leader/tippet fairly short, 5-7 feet total length...as I have said before, the shorter the better (provided you can get away with a short leader). When fishing streamers the fly itself tends to hide the tippet and thus not only can you go shorter....but you can go a size or two larger than if dry or nymph fishing. I have a few 3 weight rods but traditionally 3 wt rods are 8 or 8'6" in length...and I like them to be that short so that I can casts a 3 wt in tight conditions with lots of overhead stuff.....truth is that if you are using a 3 wt you aren't trying to cast a very long line.....so, keep the rod shorter. Jeff
Nice second fish!! Couple questions for you: 1) how are you going to get back to your car since you’re floating alone? 2) why are you using such a long leader for streamers? Appreciate your perspectives! Looks like you’re doing well
I always have a ride that picks me up at the other end of my run....often fish with another person and we hopscotch down the river. As for the leader.....not sure what long is and frankly it has been a while since I have thought much about this video; usually I use something in the range of 5-8 feet in total length....the clearer the water the longer the leader....
Name is Jeff....bud, and yes, keep your rod tip in the water to have a more direct contact point with the fish as they take the fly....you can also lower the fly in the water column by actually moving the rod tip lower in the water. As for the water load, I speak to that type of cast on various videos; the water loading helps you increase your distance and acts to reduce your back casts when in tight conditions. Lastly, if using a sink tip line with small tippet, better to water load so as not to snap off a fly..... Jeff
What line do you use on your 3wt? For the last 12 years I’ve fished 5wt-8wt and never gone below 5. I just ordered my first 3wt and have no clue what line. Awesome video
as easy as it sounds....3 wt line goes with a 3 wt rod/reel; If you look on line and do a little research you will see lots of different 3 wt lines to choose from...my choice is a lower end price of a line as usually I am not trying to cast my 3 wt for a great distance and in turn using the outfit on smaller fish.....
To watch any good bird dog is amazing and I can't think I'd ever hunt without one; Papi has always had an incredible nose and an ability to track a pheasant for ridiculous lengths....at times we can go 1/4 to 1/2 a mile in dense grass before we finally bump or point the pheasant....thanks for your comment.... Jeff
