Give "Communicator" another listen and ask yourself: "Have I ever heard ANYTHING like this before?". Obviously you could point to each element and maybe compare it to something else, but as a totality, it really stands alone. One of my all time favorite Bush tunes. Their later albums really show how the critics demoralized Gavin and sent the band into territory where it was never meant to be. F*ck those commie half-wits at Rolling Stone, they did the d*vil's work.
When I saw Reuben live in Derby in 2002 - 2003 they were supporting Kinesis. I've always remembered how after the gig some of the guys from Kinesis were outside the venue and I and my friends got a few minutes to talk to them and they were talking about how being in a band isn't all it's cracked up to be. They didn't seem like they were happy with the grind. Sounds a bit like what Jamie was talking about here.
"Frankie's personality" didn't come out of nowhere. If Frankie had the personality people act like he has....toxic, mysogynistic, nefarious, shady.....all of those things attract people. If Frankie had those character traits he'd be happy because those kinds of people thrive in America. You won't find an actual mysogynistic womanizer that doesn't have a girlfriend. Women love that shit. Frankie has been hurt by many people. I can guarantee it. His walls are up because they have to be. As far as emmure making Attila sound like kings of Leon....kings of Leon are awful lol I'd rather hear Attila 😆
Im so glad that two eloquent dudes are giving Bush some respect. Fuck the elitists. Bush is underrated. Razorblade Suitcase is so damn good. If someone can listen to that record and still try to act like Gavin is just a GQ model with a voice they're buggin. We're not talking about Creed here. Gavin went wild on Razorblade. But I would say they had 3 straight albums with no fat. Like every single song for 3 straight albums is a tune. That's so hard to do. How someone listens to Machinehead or Greedy Fly and can't at least tip their hat to Gavin is strange to me. They have so many legitimately catchy tunes that are raw as hell and contain real feeling. The lyrics are esoteric and fit the songs perfectly. I never needed Bush to open my mind about politics or the daily grind. I went to Gavin's unique voice, the band's signature guitar tone and strange lyrics to lose myself in
This was one of my first "most anticipated albums" as a teenager in the 90s. I freaking loved 16 Stones and was super excited for Razorblade Suitcase, especially when I heard it was being produced by Steve Albini.
From Canada, I was 8 years old when this album came out, and I remember the music video for Swallowed being played ALL the time on Much Music here, back when they still played music videos. I personally think Swallowed is the best song by the best British grunge band. Maybe you guys on that side of the pond have a different viewpoint, but that song and video came the closest to a British band understanding North America. I LOVE Oasis, and they did better in Canada than they did in the States (population size notwithstanding) but Oasis never got North America, and the feeling was mutual, people like me excluded. I love British bands, love to the Mother Country. EDIT: Second place is Nine Black Alps from Manchester. Shot Down should have sold ten million albums.
I remember listening to this album for the first time, just enjoying the sound until I hit Devil in my Bloodstream. It's my favorite song of all time, and it opened my eyes to how deep The Wonders Years are as a band, and one I really connect with.
Saw Slipknot on OzzFest Tour & met Iommi & Geezer at Meet & Greet, & also, it's Extraterrestrial Aliens & UFOs, the Solway Firth Spaceman appeared at an astronaut launch on a launching pad & the launch was scrubbed, I believe the Solway Firth Spaceman were the same Extraterrestrial Aliens at the Socorro New Mexico that officer Lonnie Zamora witnessed! 🖖🦾🤖🦿🛸🪐👽👾☄🛰🚀👨🚀👩🚀🧑🚀🦖🦕⸸⁶⁶⁶⛧🤘
The lines from "Midwestern States", "we both got worthless diplomas from worthless universities. Two bachelor's in worthless studies, but at least it made our parents happy and cost a whole lot of money..." any American under 40 can utterly relate to the sentiment.
So true about the British music press. Bush did everything without them and they hated it. Thankfully that bunch of chin stroking wankers are irrelevant these days
Eres el clavel negro dibujado por el malefico hermoso como aqel día en el qe esperas qe no salga el sol la sonrisa de tu ser una fresca brisa tus labios verte lamer provoca en mi vida mucha mucha energia
Saw slipknot for the first time in Dallas Texas 10/30/21 corey said this before he played this song and i quote. “ would you like to go to slipknots dark place with us” I got the chills!!!
I feel like HIM is sort of like the Ghost BC of 15 years ago. Hear me out: - Both are Northern-European bands with an intense cult following worldwide - Both are tenuously classed as "metal" because of their instrumentation and Satanic vibes, while also being catchy and poppy enough to make this controversial with a lot of metal fans. - Both have easily merchandisable symbols and gimmicks (HIM's ludicrously pretty frontman, Ghost's theatrical shtick) that add to them not being taken seriously by metalheads - Both absolutely slap any time any place, and even with your normie friends All we need is Jake Paul or whoever today's equivalent of Bam Margera is to get a massive hard-on for Ghost and the cycle will be complete. (Yes, I'm sure there are loads more pop-metal bands that could fit into this but these are the two I feel like I have to argue with other metalheads the most about so)
