I’m currently finishing my play through, and I’ve enjoyed it much more than Blasphemous 2. The exploration and boss fights were more fun, it has more secrets, and more weapons. Blasphemous 2 is great, but the mace far exceeded the other weapons usefulness in most cases, at least for me. My main gripes with the game is that both magic and weapon skills use focus, severely limiting magic’s use (especially with how much MP magic uses), and how underpowered guns and magic are, especially magic. I found guns to be more useful than magic, overall, since they don’t use the MP bar and have better range.

What I wish is they took this games character creator and stuck it into monsterhunter games instead . Then monster hunter would be super perfect ! Still monster hunter is better than this game by far but the character creation in this game is just something I wish I could see in a monster hunter game like REALLY bad !

Its the customizability that made Vintage story for me. and i am not talking about the one click install mods (altho i use knapster because my nerves are made of spaghettios for me to knap at a decent pace) but its literal, vanilla, customize button when picking playstyle. just the fact i could define mob nerve, food spoilage rate and hunger accumilation rates, ore density calculations, how hilly/ flat the world would be, how high the sea level is, turn seasons off or on, make the game spawn me in either wetlands, jungle, desert or tundra, modify block gravity to where not only sand and gravel falls, and so does soil, but also cracked rock, also give these blocks sideways instability so they can fall adjacent from there current position, and to modify whether i want realistic distribution of biomes or minecraft-style. can you do all that shit in minecraft? i mean yeah, for **sure**, it just probably takes a minimum of 3 mods, an outside tool to patch them in, and hitting the play button at the correct quantum state of the universe.

The game’s story is being revealed slowly as the game develops. Updates have a purpose and always improve game balance in some way, while adding new features. The game doesn’t lag just because you’re in a jungle. The mechanical side of the game is great fun and very very different from MC. Like exploring? The map is 1million x 1 million across with incredible variety of landscapes and climates, with much to discover. you can open two or five, or ten chests at once and drag items between them. You can eat a polar bear. You can customize your world to an incredible degree. Give it a try!

Thats a good point, it's easy to see what they havent done yet, because all in all I am very impressed with what they have done. Exploration was probably my favorite part, but more structures, dungeons, bosses, etc I think would be sweet, instead of different skins for animals, which are already varied. I'm not trying to bash the game at all, because overall its fantastic.

@samtheashen
@samtheashen 11 дней назад
It would be a good idea to try out medium weight and use dodging. I also will say blocking is very powerful if done right and i totally stayed away from blocking in exchange for 2 handing, which probably was a mistake. So in short, try medium with rolling and medium with a good shield for blocking and see what you like more.

@samtheashen 23 дня назад
I feel like that’s a pretty hot take for it to be live service, I always assume the worst for any game live service and see it as a downside. But I guess if they did it right, live service could’ve been good for this game. Seeing new monsters maybe every month or however they would do it, would be pretty sweet. But then again, monster hunter didn’t go that route and it’s like the gold standard. Maybe that just speaks to the Publisher/Devs, EA just too focused on pumping new games out. I'm playing all my games on M&K, including this one, and I've had absolutely 0 issues in this one! Even Sekiro and DS 1 (PTDE) were way less M&K friendly than this game. Perhaps indeed something was up with your game. I did bind my dash to Mouse Button 5 and the Talisman to MB4 while leaving the scout thingie on Q and never had them fail on me.

About the main hub you talked about, as you progress through the game and find items to gift to shuanshuan, he slowly starts to ' decorate' / fill up the pavilion. I think this was a really nice touch it gave a lot of character to shuanshuan, as he would make Yi' s life more colourfull and bright, as opposed to the little boring and plain pavilion in the beginning. Shuanshuan changing Yi' sview on life is also a main story trend so I think this is portrayed perfectly here.
@samtheashen
@samtheashen 28 дней назад
That’s a good point, I like that you can bring back items/hidden items to shaunshaun, and then after your next visit back to the hub, it looks a little different with the decorations. I just thought with all the beautiful art design in the game and with the setting and characters, that a big golden pavilion was a bit generic and they could’ve made something much more unique, especially with the black roots, the cyber punk aspects, just different things mixed in.

It really depends on your “line in the sand”. If some annoying bugs, crashes, loss of save data (generally less than an hour for me so I guess nothing too crazy, I also save often because of this) some clipping of terrain especially on mod maps, and just general disappointing stuff as far as knowing that the developer has the skills, the tools, and the resources to do right by what they put out yet they didn’t and still haven’t, if all that still sounds like something you could put up with, then yeah I would get it. Having mods on console is a massive bonus and was a big incentive for me. All those problems still happened to me and I still occasionally play and haven’t went back to vanilla ark so I guess in a way it was worth it or at least will be. If all that sounds like it’s not worth the hassle which is totally fair, then I wouldn’t buy it, not now at least. I really love this game, and after hundreds of hours of playing it with many more planned in the future, I would say that in my opinion it is indeed better than Minecraft. I really love the immersion that the game's atmosphere creates, it really feels like the world is alive. Also chiselling. Chiselling my beloved. I don't think I could ever return to Minecraft after experiencing chiselling. There's also really unique lore and in-universe character customisation. Oh, and performance. This game has devs who actually care about optimisation. Playing Minecraft after playing Vintage Story feels so slow and clunky. This game is basically what I always wanted Minecraft to be like, and I am really glad that the devs are super passionate about it. :) While I understand opinions can differ and some people prefer Minecraft, for me Vintage Story is the best survival sandbox game out there!

That’s a love letter to Vintage Story for sure, very well written. Chiseling, I’m glad you mentioned it because obviously satisfaction is a good feeling in gaming, and chiseling is the definition of satisfaction. Optimization was great for me on VS even when trying different mods. I will say on Minecraft, I had to do a good amount of tweaks to get everything to run well, especially with obs. No, it isn't worth it. Master mode adds nothing to the game except a couple of mounts and a ton of frustration. Basically you take triple damage and everything has triple health. If you think you can use your wits to get around that, you won't. If you find a strategy that works, the devs will change the game so that it fails. I've gotten all the way to Moon Lord, but I can't beat him because the 3X damage bullshit means that one phantasmal laser hit is enough to bring you down to 1/4 of your health and by the time you get him down to his core he will have so much stuff flying across the screen that you will die before you can use another potion. From what I understand the only consistent method to beat Moon Lord is to use asphalt and have a rod of discord which not only damages you, but also has a 1/1000 drop rate. Screw Master Mode, it sucks.

I always say that it's a game that does what it intended, but that what it intended isn't what your average gamer wants. This can be best seen with the combat system. Most video games are designed where as the character levels up you can expect to see big improvements in your combat ability. KCD wants you to feel like a weak and unprepared commoner and this will not change until you as the player get better. It's perfect for immersion but it's just not what the average person wants in a video game. Saving is another big one. Saves are common and forgiving these days in most games. I imagine that most old school gamers don't mind the weird save system here since it's still far more forgiving that what games of the past offered.
@samtheashen
@samtheashen Месяц назад
That’s a pretty solid point. Some people probably don’t want to invest the time or might not even have the time to actually improve their skill in a video game that’ll never translate to a real life skill. Just want the good old get xp and get better, which is a system I definitely like. Then with KCD, to level and to not be any better at all, to unlock a combo and never even come close to pulling it off, and then train with Bernard, then maybe come out on top against a bandit after kiting their buddies with an arrow from a horse, and actually improve your own skill/reaction/reflex, it’s a great satisfying feeling.

Personally, I find that VS's world engages me more than Minecraft's does. Maybe it's the more drawn out progression, maybe it's the heavier focus on the survival elements over the sandbox ones, the way that much of the crafting is actually done by the player's own hands rather than in the crafting grid. Minecraft is still a great game, but I find that once I've gotten Iron tools and a basic farm up and running I don't really have much else I want to do. Sure I could build some cool structures, but no one else is ever going to see them so what's the point? So I end up getting bored and leaving the game to collect dust. Personally, I think that Minecraft and VS both fill different niches. Minecraft is all about the sandbox part of 'survival sandbox', it's a canvas to let your imagination go and build cool stuff. Vintage story on the other hand, leans more into the survival elements. And this is the part of the game that actively engages me more than Mincraft's sandbox style gameplay
@samtheashen
@samtheashen Месяц назад
That’s definitely a good point, they do fill different niches, and there’s a lot of crossover between the two games, whether they played Minecraft and it got stale like it did for you and found VS or vice versa. Also a good point about Minecraft having more of an emphasis on the sandbox aspect, and while VS is still a sandbox, you absolutely can’t ignore the survival aspects if you want to get anywhere. Like you said, The crafting thing was huge for me as well, crafting with my own hands pixel by pixel or voxel (not totally sure) but yeah the super in depth crafting was one of if not my favorite part of VS. the building up a clay crockpot, putting in the ground and firing it to dry, then making food and literally using it as a crockpot, is just awesome.

Well I think that’s a bit harsh on Minecraft, from what I’ve read even from these comments, we wouldn’t have VS without Minecraft in the first place. And with the nether and the end, in Minecraft, it’s still an awesome game. VS just took it to the next level I think.

@@samtheashen the issue is that survival mode isn't really survival mode, it's just creative mode with extra steps

@@Ghorda9 well I think you could say that about any game with survival mode and creative mode. Survival you have to find the things in the world and craft it and creative you can have any item for free without any exploring or gathering or anything.

@@samtheashen I think the problem is that Minecraft doesn't have a good balance between the sandbox aspects and the survival/content progression aspect. I know that this comparison has been done to death but look at Terraria, that game has a stellar balance between the sandbox content (decorative stuff) and content made for progression (weapons, armor and etc) while having one less dimension compared to Minecraft. Minecraft has a lot of potential but if you're not playing with other people or with mods, the game is "wide as a ocean and deep as a puddle", at least that's my opinion.

@@marcelosoares7148 I think that’s a fair take, I agree too. Without mods or a good group of friends (which at that point anything would be fun) then it’s super shallow and gets old after a while. I had an amazing time in terraria and would still say that it’s a masterpiece for sure.

love this game.. host a server 24/7 for 3 youtubers (one server for all 3 of their discords.. a fair amount of mods.. including the skills one. Playing it since it came out. There is sort of an "end game" the resonance archive. lots of great mods out there .. lots of stupid mods.. (stupid being ones that you can already fully do in the game.. but no have to have a mod to make mobs not aggressive.) very good game for the money.

Oh nice that’s awesome! So I’m sure by now you guys are endgame, do you restart your worlds at some point or just keep them going? Are the archives what you do for some endgame content?

@@dmsys6516 Wow thats good to know, it sounds super interesting. I might go back to see it or I might wait for the rust world to be added, either way I still have a lot to see, its just not very enticing to do all the grinding without a lot of endgame content.
