My uncle had a lot on Winni and fished it a lot. Always had good luck. The resort is called Denny's right outside of Bena. It's a big lake so sometimes it's hard to get on when it's windy. I have only fished for perch in the winter. Lots of action. I know there are many resorts so just research them, pick one and go have a good time. Good luck!
So much better than any store bought salsa. When you can grow most of the ingredients too, it doesn't get any better than that. Chips, salsa and a cold beer, a perfect combination!
@@living_north with inflation and the price of everything going your better off making alot of things yourself I don't buy store bought pizzas anymore I make them home made
There are a couple so called beaches on 2 different lakes near the cabin but neither of them is what I would call a good swimming spot. If it is warm out in the summer the kids will go there to cool off. The water is dark on both the lakes because of the tanic acid that is in most of the lakes in the boreal forest. But when it is hot and humid the water feels good!
I did not use a sander on the logs. The osborne brush takes off most of the surface material but doesn't polish the logs like a sander would. All I wanted to do was clean the surface so the stain would adhere to the logs without any issues. It worked great and saved a lot of work if a sander was used after the brush. The walls look great after all these years since that was done. Thanks for watching the video.
Welcome James. I'm glad to have you join our viewers. We have many folks come over from Joe's channel to look at what we do since we are neighbors up in the woods. I hope you like the videos.
Thanks. Yes I have become quite the youtube channel watcher. Joe's was the first of it's kind I first watched. I remember seeing you on there and hearing Joe talk about you. I am from Texas so our winters are nothing like yalls.
Yes it is a pretty special place. We enjoy time in the woods with family and friends but a lot of work too. Always a challenge to balance work and play. Thanks for watching.
I do have some arthritis but I have some short fingers from a birth defect. Nothing that ever stopped me from doing anything. Hands just look a little different than most folks. I wondered if anyone would notice that in the video, ha-ha. Yes catching fish, even small ones, is way better than looking at a dead hole for 2 days! Thanks for watching.
This was really a fun trip. Most of the fish were smaller size but it is fun to catch a bunch and release them than to sit and not catch anything. We all had a limit so it doesn't get any better than that. Glad you liked the video.
Thank you. Fun trip with our friends and we caught a bunch of fish, nothing big, but everyone had a limit. Doesn't get much better than that. Thanks for watching.
Slow fishing, but still a great time. I've only ever been to that lake in the summer, but it sure is a great area. Thanks for the video George and Steven.
We like going there in the winter because it is easy to get too and a nice site for our tents. Never had much luck with fishing but always a great time with friends. Glad you liked the video.
I've been to Snowbank lake and it has some big boulders in it. We stayed at Jack Pine resort and I know it burnt down. My sisters and I went out fishing in a boat and we stayed out just a little too late and we kinda got lost. But finally found our way back. My parents would go up in late October and they said it snowed. Burr!
It is an easy lake to get to so we go there every 2-3 years. Never had great luck fishing. Half the lake is in the bwca so you have to know where you are with the snowmobiles so you don't cross that line or you may get ticketed. That would not be good. Glad you liked the video.
We try bring the younger guys now to help with the heavy work. The 3 old guys, myself included, are all in our 70's so not as easy to for us to do things but we still get out there and enjoy winter camping. Passing on the traditions to son's and son- in- law's. Thanks for watching todd.
We have camped there 3 times now in the winter and never done much as far as catching fish. Easy lake to get too, good campsites but slow, poor fishing. Good thing we enjoy the camping and friends! Thanks for watching.
@@upnorthvlogs for sure! I've only gone to the cabin once since the mosquitoes arrived and left the next day because even the dogs didn't want to be outside, That's bad! More coming too with all the rain we keep getting. Bug dope and head nets season.
Glad you liked the video. This was an easy trip for winter since we had so little snow to shovel to set up camp. Happy we could get out for a winter trip. There was just enough ice to be safe to get around on snowmobiles. Thanks for watching.
I guess when you live in the northern states you have to embrace the cold. Looks too cold for me I will stay in the hot south. I do however enjoy all your videos of you making memories.
One cold night on this trip but otherwise very comfortable weather. Having good gear makes all the difference. Yes it is different than heat in the south. I guess it is what you get acclimated to. Glad you liked the video.
It's been an extremely warm winter for sure here in Minnesota. Good and bad, I guess. Good for the deer, bad for the moose and the ticks that plague them. Great video as always George. I especially enjoy the history of your cabin, even if it's just the bunk bed, ha.
It will be interesting to see what this spring through fall brings after the mild winter. I'm at the cabin now and we had flurries the last few days but the snow didn't stick. Everyone, including animals are affected by the mild winter. Funny how after so many years, something like fixing the bunk seems to be important. Ha-ha, must come with age! Thanks for watching,
Glad you liked it. It was a nice trip to the cabin getting a few projects done. I'm up at the cabin now and we had a dusting of snow on the ground this morning. Signs of winter still hanging on. Thanks for watching.
I got to witness frost similar to that earlier this year in northern Michigan. It was a sunny morning, absolutely beautiful. Thanks for sharing George. Catch you next time.
Not the easiest thing to do when they are so high up but I got it done. Now the camera won't go off when the wind blows the branch in front of it. Simple things that need to get done when I'm up here. Thanks for watching.
I bought the futon about a year ago at the home show. Now we have another spot for folks to sleep if we have more of the family up. The dogs like sleeping on it too!!
Thanks Robert. I'm at the cabin now and it sures look like spring has arrived. 33 degrees but no frost so that is good. Glad you liked the video and thanks for watching.
I tell you what it’s really crazy about the snow. I’ll be 41 next month and this is the first time of living my whole life all over Minnesota that I’ve never saw no snow compared to last year a week or two will have our lawnmowers out😊
When I was a kid my family would go to Hackensack Minnesota for a vacation. The resort owner was a very nice guy. In the fall him and his buddies would go moose hunting and he had a large cage that at onetime kept his dogs in. He used it for storage of moose antlers and it was stacked to the top with them. Every year we went up there he would supply a boat and motor for me to go around Little Birch lake. I would go around the resort with him to collect the garbage and would take me to the dump with him and we would check out the black bears. Keeping our distance of course. He had been a lineman for the power company. Now he is long gone and the resort like many others were sold and people own them separately. After 20 years going there my parents started going to Lake Vermilion and did so for 30 years or more and that resort was sold and people purchased the cabins for themselves.
That could work. Also, ridge stand works since it sits on the top of the hill. Choices in case we decide to name the stands out there. Thanks for watching Steve.
Raining here in town this morning. All the snow from 2 weeks ago is melted as well. Most of the snow at the cabin is gone too. A spring of rain is what we need now to keep the fire season suppressed. I hope your wishes come true! Thanks for watching Steve.
This has been just as bad here in South Central Wisconsin, Outside of a couple of snow falls in January we got nothing! Normally we would have a good 2 feet on the ground. Enjoy your updates.
Thanks Mike. We had around 20 inches here in town and 15 inches at the cabin with the big storm at the end of March. Glad to have the moisture but didn't do anything for winter sports/activities. Of course it is melting fast now. I can't remember a winter like this ever before. Glad you liked the video,
We have a few more videos to get on the channel. Then it will be shooting more content as spring arrives. Always enjoy getting out more to the cabin as the weather warms up. Glad you liked the videos.
Boy I wish I had a friend who would spend around $3000 to get a quality chipper, but I don't, ha-ha. The brush/branches will get moved one way or another. Thanks for the suggestion and watching the video.
Good morning George. I enjoyed Monday morning coffee before work with your cabin trip. Your dogs were having a good time. I like your nostalgia wall items. See you next time.
