Interesting that Yama and Ichigo's Bankais both follow the same idea of condensing your power into the sword itself, rather than say, turning into a giant baby.

My little brother was so intrigued by Yamamoto's bankai that he waited for YEARS, avoiding spoilers, memes and reading the manga, for the moment he would finally see this bankai in all his animated glory. He said the wait was worth it. Every damn second of it.

Byakuya Kuchiki once said: "There is no way Bankai can be so small" Surely he was too young to witness Zanka no Tachi.

After all this time. I still think Yama getting one shotted was pretty stupid

Notice how it immediately rained when yamamoto deactivated his bankai. His bankai caused all water in soru society to evaporate thus turning into heavy rain clouds. Simple attention to basic scientific details are amazing

Yamamoto mistake in this battle is, he is too much consumed by his own wrath, that he himself couldn’t analyse whether he against real yhwach or impostor (reiatsu can’t lie). This is the same mistake when Toshiro stabbed Aizen turns out it was Hinamori all along.

I love that Yama did not disappoint as far as his power at all! And I never realized how scary that Bankai must look after he extinguished/absorbed all that fire at once. The manga doesn’t do this justice. Now him losing to plot annoys me every time but the man is a damn demon!

I read manga long long time ago so I knew Yamamoto would die but still, so disappointed to see such a powerful character go out like that.

One of the biggest penny drop for me when reading the manga was when I looked at the form of his bankai, and to a lesser extent his shikai, then connected the dots of the Bankai being referred to as 'true strike' and explained as the purest incarnation of the sword which, in turn, is essentially a reflection of its owner and Yamamoto's past as the leader of what amounts to a group of roving killers that morphed into the Gotei 13. Yamamoto is, at heart, a destroyer. And nothing but.

Consider for a moment that Yamamoto had to actually bring the temperature *down* for those flames to become visible. They were always there, but they burned so hot no one could perceive them.

Yhwach stated that Yamamoto became beyond weaker actually in his old age and even more weaker after loosing his arm and not wanting it back. He said basically that if he had his other arm he would be a challenge to him

Remember, Yamamoto is always beaten in a fight that is not a fair fight. That's how powerful he is 🔥🔥 even Aizen needed to come up with a plan

I don’t think a lot of people are giving this sternritter the credit he deserves. He doesn’t copy power, only identity and memory. This whole fight was with his own Quincy powers and he managed to last that long. Well done

One thing the anime has done better than the manga so far is showing the carnage. Never in the manga did I realize just how many soul reapers were actually killed.

Man i absolutely love this show. Its a shonen but its different from the others. The dark atmosphere it created, brilliant anime style, and amazing osts just really sets a tone. Fantastic

The fact that Yamamoto wasn't actually fighting with Yhwach truly shows how being old affects even the strongest shinigami.

Considering how everyone has their bankai back a few episodes later it shows that this entire bankai stealing arc was only to kill Yama he’s that OP ichibe at that point is probably the only one who could beat him

Ichigo, the fucking most plot armored character in all plot history.

Not only is this Bankai insanely physically powerful, it is also a mental drain. Imagine fighting this dude, and having him constantly switch between his 4 stances. One of them is literally you being "attacked" by enemies this dude has killed revived as skeletons. Like, your buddy Jimmy could've just been stabbed and now he is trying to kill you. This fight didn't show the full tactical usage of Zanka no Tachi, so we have to imagine what it would be like if Yama basically tried to create a fully optimized strategy. If he were to constantly switch between his Cardinal Stances, there is no way for even the most powerful enemy to withstand it. Maybe someone like Aizen with his intellect, but other than that, it would be an impossible fight. Yama is just kinda dumb in this fight.

Yamamoto is too strong to progress the storyline with his presence. His dead is inevitable for main character “Ichigo”.

This fight kinda reminds me of how the Jedi were deceived by the Sith. The Sith had changed, and were no longer the same enemy as before, creating new methods and strategies to destroy the Jedi. The Jedi grew stagnant and unaware. I think this is a form of what Yhwach is saying to Yama at the end. Yhwach had already won a long time ago, and this wasn't even a fight. We all want to see a grand spectacle of a fight (and we did somewhat), but the true fight was in mindset and action that was taken beforehand. I think that's the beauty of this fight.

I'm glad Kubo finally officially confirmed lloyd had 70-80% of Yhwach's power given to him for this fight. The bleach wikia and its editors were hellbent that lloyd didn't have any of yhwach's power -just his appearance and personality/memories which is like, the stupidest thing i've ever heard, even before Kubo confirmed otherwise. lil bro lloyd ain't gonna lay hands on himpachi like that without at least some of Daddy's power.

Yama-jii got one-shotted because he isn't smart enough to realize or analyze the enemy from start (paired with his blind rage and prideful senior persona) Everybody know he's the OG thats why Aizen and Yhwach used effective tactics to dump him first.

Honestly yammamoto losing makes sense to me, now don’t explode on me. Kubo makes a good argument in manga in showing how emotionally charged the head captain could be. He subordinates brutal death really effected him made him think out of anger even when speaking with mayuri he was tempted to blame mayuri for lack of foresight which didn’t work because mayuri doesn’t overlook anything and he called the head captain out on his hubris. Head captain made same mistake he made with Aizen, he thought raw power was enough without understanding that his enemies would have realized his power and planned ahead. He realizes this all too late hence his dead expression. Like really dude the fact he thought they couldn’t steal his bankai was just hubris.

I love how Yamamoto just barely has control over his shikai alone and the only reason his bankai isn't causing widespread collateral damage is because is so laser-focused/pissed.

Strongest shinigami, used bankai and explains to the enemy how it works, knowing that the enemy can steal bankais. Then dies with 1 hit

This is one of the best anime battles I’ve seen. The animation is on another level

Yamamoto is the strongest shinigami with all the sword and hadou techniques. Just remember him teaching Zaraki tiny bit of kendo move was enough to one shot Nnoitra. If he had both hands things would have been much different. That handicap was necessary and ended up killing him in order for story to continue.

Every person should watch this episode fully at least once in their life time.

That Yamamoto's bankai works almost exactly like Ichigo's does, where it condenses all of his bankai's power into a normal katana size blade, is a very interesting parallel.

I'm just happy to see them bring back all the tunes and music before they start fighting.

God I’m so glad. I managed to avoid spoiling his Bankai for years… Then they really said “I know… it’s been far too long. We was down… but now we up. We’re gonna make it up to you Fr fam” And then created what will be known as the most iconic animated fight scene for decades, as well as one of the most attentive to detail pieces of anime history. They absolutely smoked this shit out the park, secured the bag, got the W, this is a true masterpiece.

Even though Yamamoto lost....my friend was a huge manga fan,whilst i absolutely adored the captain's style,the bankai and such,that he almost spoiled it for me,which for i shutted his mouth. It was worth the wait to see such an immense,unmeasurable strenght,come to life,even if for a short duration.

Such good animation. I wish Yamamoto could've fought actual yhwach longer and displayed some more of his power, sucks, that all of that was against a clone and not the real one

Honestly seeing that for the first time had me emotional 😂 lol holy shit. This is soo good imo. I've watched the whole thing from when it was first being serialized when I was in highschool in mid 2000's til the last season. I haven't gotten around to watch anything recently but I should start cause I keep checking on scenes from what I hear people talking about and need to make the time to watch this season from the beginning 😂❤

Crazy how royd was able to keep up with yamaji and even able to evade his attacks considering he (in the manga) can only copy someone's appearance, personality and memories.

Yhwach knew he couldn’t fight Yamamoto head on loll he lucky

Crazy to think the real emperor was hiding around the corner with tears until the genryusai was weakened enough for him to pop up and claim victory.

“I didn’t show my utmost ability even a thousand years ago” so that’s how yamamoto beat yhwach the first time. Yhwach’s almighty (pre soul king) allowed him to see into the future and do 2 things: Understand a person’s abilities and bring a possible future into the present, and my theory is that Yama was just too strong for yhwach that yhwach saw no future in which yamamoto displayed his bankai’s full power (therefore not fully understand it) and there was also no future he could bring to defeat prime yamamoto because there was none. I also theorize that after absorbing the soul king, yhwach was now able to change the future.

The sound effects of this fight are just 👌🤌

I appreciate the editing you did for this. So many edits cut some of the best parts while dragging out the others- this was made in a way that kept the dialogue fast and snappy, while also showcasing the action well.

Yammamotto is so cool and badass but my god hes one of the biggest dumbasses in anime i have ever seen. For someone who is head captain yoyd expect him to be a good tactician or battle planner but his whole character revolves around trying to brute force solutions and gets surprised when people make counter measures to his brute force. Dude knowingly used bankai on enemies that could steal bankai wasted his strongest asset rather than waiting it out. This goes for so many of the other captains also hitsugaya, byakuya etc. I swear sometimes it feels like the only ones that can think critically are urahara, mayuri, aizen and ichigo.

Toshiro is the only one with decent humidity in this whole scene everyone else is dry asf

Moral of the story: if you hear “bankai” and all you see is a tiny sword, run.

One of the only bad changes so far is that they somehow showed to have even less emphasis on ywach stealing Yamamotos bankai. 1. He still never successfully uses it and barely shows the cross that captured it 2. Even worse than the source material, ichibe erases it's name and power, the cross is not even shown just referenced by ichibe. 3. He never tries to use zanka no tachi before its erased in both source and anime. This underplays what could have been a great little red herring. Ywach 100% successfully steals zanka no Tachi and only ever considers it in the middle of the ichibe fight when it's made null

Man istg his bankai incantation is the coolest of all bankai that I've ever seen. If bankai like senbonzakura and zangetsu have cool effect like sakura flowers and overwhelming reiatsu, then zanka no tachi is the opposite, from overwhelming fire of ryujin jakka, to a quiet-looking power

6:20 amazing that it's implied Ichigo didn't use flash step. flash step is quiet bc it uses reiatsu so you can still be tracked when you use it. but ichigo is pissed off, almost to the point of being impulsive- doing something you don't think about, which is similar to instinct, like what White said about the difference between a king and a horse. you know what's described as instinctual, allows you to move fast without reiatsu, makes you look like you disappeared, and makes a loud noise like that? a sonido
