Serena Williams and Venus Williams spoke to the press after their match against each other in the 3rd round of the 2018 US Open. It was the 30th career match between the Williams sisters, and Serena equaled her most lopsided victory against her sister with a 6-1, 6-2 rout at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Venus handled that masterfully. She has nothing to prove anymore, and she just acknowledged she was outmatched. She isn't in competition with anyone, but Venus, and I love that about her.

Actually, Venus will only earn $156k, where Serena will earn no less than $226k, and Venus, having reached the semifinals of last year's tournament will lose points for not even reaching the round of 16. Serena had a baby during last year's US Open instead of points, so she'll have even more points.

t's such an irritating ritual. As a viewer, I get NOTHING out of it. In pre-match interviews, the ask "what is your strategy?" Why would anyone answer that? So stupid. In post-match on-court interviews they ask tired players "what you thinking in the tie-break?" Are they really supposed to remember details of such fleeting moments for the benefit of interviewers? As much as I love tennis & my faves, I REALLY don't want a piece of their lives that badly.

Dumba$$? These pro jocks, in any sport, get paid millions of $$$ to play a sport. They should be VERY grateful about how lucky they are and NEVER complain. Plus, it is the fans, at the stadiums and viewing at home, that pay their salaries. Without fans, people like Serena would have to work for a living and in her case, that might be flipping burgers.

whenever i see these two greats play i'm always struck by how difficult it is for venus to play her younger sister. anyone one with younger siblings, who they love and helped nurture over a lifetime, can attest to the strange and impossible proposition of suddenly viewing them as an opponent to beat. I think they both do their best to compartmentalize this dynamic, and just play the game, but i just dont think its possible. i think serena has a good understanding of this, and is an incredibly gracious winner.

To me they have the most boring press conferences. These reporters are trying to get them to rip the other apart and expose the other. Until they understand that they are sisters before they are opponents and only when they face each other is when they put that aside will they get a great interview. I love how Venus said that you don’t get anywhere reflecting just yet and that they are too far in to reflect. These women already know all their answers because they’re always asked the same questions.
