This is a one-part video of the 2020 Ford F-150 “Hennessey” Velociraptor we just completed for a complete custom stereo system upgrade. This video is an overview of the work we did to upgrade this truck. Also, we touch on the Linkswell IV T-Style Radio and do a basic walk-through of this replacement stereo specifically designed for these trucks.

Playing this vid, including the music, through my home stereo consisting of a pair of 12" Klipsch Reference 200 watt powered subs, a pair of Polk Monitor 70's (each having 4 6.5's and a 3/4" tweeter) powered by a pair of Monobloc Denon 200 watt amps and a Sony ES TA-9000 digital preamp. Lots of bass!

That term came from World War 2. The P51 Mustang machine guns use bullets that are mounted in a belt. Guess how long the bullet belt was. You got it, 9 yards long. So when a pilot came back, he said I gave the enemy Zero " The Whole Nine Yards".

No doubt! Back in the 80s I had an 82' Datsun lowrider pickup with a passthrough bed and had four 15" Cerwin Vega subs with an all Rockford Fosgate system with mosfet punch 150 amps , four 6x9s and tweeters up front. The sound was so crystal clear and the bass shook your internal organs. I remember changing my deck from cassette tape to CD player when they first came out. I've even owned vehicles 8 track players and AM only radios!

I tell you what, usually youtube doesnt do any justice for quality of sound...but man that sounded amazing! I can only imagine how insane that sounds in person! Very nice work guys, great job. I dont have half the amount of gear as this truck, and my setup gives me goosebumps too lol. Nothing else like getting that feeling!

Excellent job. I've watched so many F150 custom install videos I dream about it now. I'm about to install my zen a/b with a D-5.1300 audio control amp. Do you need still need an NavTV Zen with the Linkswell head unit? I thought those radios have line output rca jacks to go straight into the amplifier?

Great question, so we recommend using the ZEN with the Linkswell, such a better signal to amplify over the Linkswell outputs.

Focal 6 channels for 3 ways I assume...what is powering rear speakers? Do you use optical input to DSP from ZEN and then RCA to all amps after processing ? How much upgrade in sound if you did Utopia M vs the Kevlar? Thanks and great work!

Rear speakers has a Mosconi Pico amplifier and the front on the 6-channel. We make our own RCA cables from the Zen to the DSP, it tends to be better than optical in these trucks

I’ve been in car stereo for 40 years can you guys weren’t spearing any expense when you went with the Focal three-way components upfront nice. I’ve never seen anyone put their so-called premium system in something that was like that I mean that’s just top-notch. Most people don’t give a rats ass about that kind of stereo system would never pay that kind of money for it but the true audiophile yeah that’s what I’m talking about right there👍

Had customers bring in a few different versions of the "Tesla style" radio.....most of which look pretty good but sound ok at best...doing a Zen interface on factory compared to that Linkswell...what is better SQ would you say?

This radio you have to do the B&O retention + ZEN for good sound quality. The Linkswell radio offers 0.5v of output on the RCA

Very similar to 8-inch subs, but with 6.5-inch, we have more airspace per driver in the Ford, so it delivers exactly what we want. Tons of low end extension and output!!

How is the bass with those 6.5 subs? I went with 4 8’s in my Silverado 1100 amp. I like to be heard but my highs are not even close to those pyramids. Sound so phenomenal man!🤘

Looks good but the JL TW3 10s or 12s fit perfect in the Ford 150s.. hits really hard! I would have to hear the 6 1/2 .. but I have a hard time believing they hit that hard..

That's understandable.... Keep in mind, we didn't do the 6.5" for these reasons (Budget too low, wanted to be different, or we have something against larger subwoofers). The benefit of the 6.5" setup is output.. We have 1,800wrms of power PLUS we have a efficiency boost from the ported/vented enclosure.. If you go sealed, you lose this efficiency and your limited on power handling (usually 400-800wrms). So that's a better route for those that do not need massive amounts of output or if they are limited on budget as the quad 6.5" is more expensive to do. If your ever in the area, stop by and we will let you listen to this setup :)

It sounds to clean through my earphones. Almost like if I'm listening to a song edited to the video. And not to a song picked up through the recording device mic.

That’s because it was edited in. Look at the screen of the radio, you’ll see and hear that outkast song playing in the background. But when he starts the sound demo, the outkast art remains on the screen even though “Be good to me” is playing. And…the audio from my headphones maintains perfect stereo balance from the RU-vid audio. That’s not possible when recording car audio through a small camera’s microphone, especially when the camera is being moved around. The stereo balance would have been thrown off with all the movement, and you would hear it in your headphones. All that bass from the subwoofers would have surely caused sound distortion in the recording, but sounds perfectly clean in the video. While the demo music is playing, the installer guy is tapping his fingers to the music, but is completely out of timing with the rhythm….which means that he wasn’t listening to the same music that we heard in the video. Clever editing, but kinda offensive if you ask me.

We were playing from a third party website since we cannot play copyrighted music. When you do this on Apple CarPlay, it appears paused but will play anything on your phone. Example, play a Netflix movie on your phone, sound will come through but will appear paused on CarPlay.

Lol, you do not understand how acoustics work and the relationship of airspace + cone surface area works. Obviously we are not doing all of this work and utilizing under performing subwoofer systems. We utilize the small drivers in a vented enclosure because with the airspace provided (1.4cuft total), it delivers the most low end extension, and output within the given parameters. It is far beyond what two 10-inch subwoofers sealed can provide, apples vs oranges in comparison 👍

The audio from the sound demo part of the video was edited in. It wasn’t captured from the sound that’s being produced by the speakers in the truck. I mean…everyone can see that the system looks amazing and probably sounds amazing too. But faking the audio wasn’t necessary 🤦‍♂️.
