To be 100% honest I don't think she is that smart. Her mum (being totally stupid) thinks she is so smart. She had to go to a super expensive private mormon high school to make sure she gets into BYU (keep in mind her dad is a professor there!).
I don’t even mind if she ends up coming back, or keeps posting occasionally... she’s 18, she deserves the chance to step back and decide what SHE wants for her life. Whatever that may be.
I was so afraid to send my kids to Kindergarten because they would learn that the world is ugly and not as beautiful and safe as I lead them to believe it was 😢!! So I could not imagine Subjecting them to the Internet/world wide web

Childhood trauma/bad parenting can cause anxiety and stress. It starts from baby stage. If you are constantly in fear of getting in trouble, getting beat, getting abused, getting yelled at, told to shut up that can have an effect on your mental health even as a child
Her being the oldest of 6 kids, and being a girl she probably had a shittone of expectations set by her parents anyway. So that AND being exposed to the internet basically 24/7 for years probably pushed her into some anxiety. I wonder if that's what caused Chad's behaviour to get to the stage where they shipped him off to this camp for "troubled youth".
Chad wasn’t even troubled. He just acts more like a normal kid than his siblings who are terrified and brainwashed by there Mormon mother. Chad is a normal kid and shouldn’t have been sent to that camp. And if he was troubled I would understand because the environment he’s in is so toxic. Ruby his mother is CRAZY. But it was so bizarre to me that the dad just instantly denounced her feelings.
He has to. You can tell that Ruby controls that entire relationship. It's very interesting how in a lot of conservative christian families', the MOM is the one that is in charge even though the father is technically supposed to be. Especially how the children are raised. And if dad doesn't go along with it, he gets hell from the wife.
"Kids shouldn't be callused." Preach, Josh. It's really cool to see a dad advocating for kids. Also, she has pretty impressive depth and self awareness for her age and her parents. Sadly that's probably from the trauma she has experienced. Calluses like you said. I really hope she takes that and does something she finds fulfilling and that she's able to heal.

Do you watch their videos? She’s been to a lot of doctors over the past couple of years. Shari has talked about it a lot on her channel and they’ve talked about it on her parents channel.

My step mom works at a university and my tuition was free. I paid for everything else. She’s not even a prof she’s an accountant. That’s in Canada tho.

I think not just youtube messed with her mental health, her mother, making her do so many chores and making her take care of all her sibilings since she was little have, for sure, affected her. Think when the whole corona virus started, schools closed, online school started, the caos of everything, no food... she had to take care of all the kids and the home, and the parents were on a vacations without any care of the world.
Did you see the recent 8 Passengers video of Shari and her siblings placing bets on how old she will be when she gets engaged? 18-20. I wish Mormons would just let their kids be kids and not think they need to rush to get married once they hit adult age. Kudos to her for taking her likeliness into her own hands though.
I completely agree. Life is meant to be lived fully - its meant for you to have experiences, create memories, and to actually enjoy it wholeheartedly. Although I think that marriage is significant and sacred, I don’t think that there’s anything wrong with waiting until you’re at least between the ages of 26-30 to decide to get married. I think those ages are more appropriate, in my opinion. The guy I fell in love with at 18 was a complete nightmare, and had I married him, my life would have been a complete headache. He’s been out of the picture for several years now, and I couldn’t be happier. I wish people understood that you don’t have to marry the first person you fall in love with, you don’t have to be a mom if having children isn’t something you desire, or if you’re simply not ready. God’s love isn’t contingent upon these demands. People are worthy of so much more. I wish they could actually experience it without the pressure! 💕
I agree. Recently Shari mentioned that an 18 year old friends of hers was engaged and thst she couldn’t imagine getting married now. The pressure on the young ladies of the Mormon religion are encouraged to marry young and have babies right away. It’s sad. Over the years I’ve watched her say she wanted to go to an Ivy League school and be a lawyer. I know young people change their minds, but I felt so sad for her when she decided to go to BYU. Deep down I knew that she would be going to a school nearby. The value that Mormons put on women is so low. They are just expected to go to school, find a husband and settle down. There’s no importance placed on education for women. If you pay attention to Ruby and her sisters’ vlogs, you will see that none of them finished college. They all worked after they married and then had kids. Some had them right away and some waited. It’s sad that as a Mormon woman you don’t have a chance to have a career.

@@terrilreece8045 I've seen the most equality personally in the mormon religion. That has been my experience, and I move a lot with the military so I've been apart of 8 churches now. I have not been in Utah and I know the closer you are to Utah the more extreme things get 🤷♀️
I agree she has so much sadness in her eyes and tone. Unfortunately for some you are born into toxic environment. church parents can be rocky to say the least. To me she was made to be doing the right things from the start and unable to make mistakes without feeling it’s the end of the world. This is how I see her parents… they soften up with you tube… unfortunately, with this family, it’s not just you tube, it’s their belief system that is playing another load of toxicity into their dynamics. It’s sad, but luckily they have the resources if they want to seek for help or unable others with different world views to inspire some changes, amazing things could happen.
Ruby also did a video about pull ups for older children that are wetting the bed which involved her son Russell, she had him in the video, I was horrified, it’s not fair to that kid.
I think that now shari is 18 ruby would have to give her the money she’s already earned. I use to watch the 8 passengers but after that video regarding Evie and forgetting her lunch and ruby said she wasn’t gonna bring her any lunch. It made me so angry I couldn’t watch her anymore

"I've always seen RU-vid as my job even though I didn't like it." That statement speaks volumes. In the next decade we are going to see all these family vlogger kids growing up and have so many issues because they grew up with cameras in their faces. This is so sad because it's obvious for her that these aren't new issues and I'm thankful she is making the effort to get out of it. It's such a shame that her parents put her out there and I don't know how I could ever forgive my parents for taking so much of my privacy away. I think she has had way too much stress and pressure in her young life. Lordy I am so thankful that I didn't become a teenager to an adult with all my mistakes and learning for the entire world to see.
As a grown woman who chooses not to even put myself out on the internet too much due to how cruel it can be, I CANNOT even imagine how this will impact children who have their whole lives out there for all to see.

I feel like she is finally giving up YT cause she’s at the age where she can say no to her parents. She seems really smart, I’m happy she’s doing what is best for her. I also have anxiety that manifests in physical symptoms and it’s absolutely terrible. It’s sad seeing kids so distressed. If her parents never put her on the internet she probably wouldn’t go through that
I deal with lots of physical symptoms of anxiety as well which didn’t start until I was in my 20s. I can’t imagine having dealt with that in childhood/high school. I feel so bad for her :(
I think that it had to do with the Franke family all getting COVID. Other families in this group had surgeries ranging from gall bladder to hip surgery to tonsils removed. That being said it is odd that this family has been absent from the rest of the family.

Kinda off topic: YAWI family has a daughter that is around Shari's age (actually she might be 19) and she is trying to get a job at Disney. In a recent q&a she mentioned that felt she was living in a bubble in Utah and wanted to try something new. I've been praying she gets the job because I think it might be her way of getting out of this community. (Aka Mormonism) I just wish Shari would do the same. She is too much in her comfort zone.

That's pretty heartbreaking that a girl that young has to deal with that much hate coming at her. It's a good point that was made as to how could a good Mom/Dad not want to protect their kids from that? There are days when someone will simply look sideways at my kid and I'm ready to lose it. I can't imagine my child experiencing that and not doing anything to stop it. She seems like a very mature young adult and I hope that she finds peace and happiness in stepping away from this toxicity.
We have to stop telling our kids MAKING Money is what their lives should be about! That is the last thing they should be striving for, if they do they will be so much better off!! I am so glad my grandsons are not allowed on social media! They have not suffered at all!

Hi! I’m a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and let me just say that Ruby and her husband are SO EXTREME. My family is NOT at all like that. My parents didn’t let us get social media until we were like 14-15 but they made sure that we still had everything a child needs to have a normal childhood. So, as someone who is a member of the same church as the 8 passengers, I can say thar Ruby’s rules and punishments are disgusting! Oh, and I was born and raised in Utah! :)

They are NOT paying for her university fees!!!!! Like as in nothing. It was in one of their vloggs when Shari only got half a scholarship to Boston university and Shari was gutted because she couldn’t go as she didn’t have enough money…… She’s even paying for housing. I think Ruby wants her daughter at BYU because it’s Mormon and it’s got strict rules…..

Bad parents are the issue; not large families. I am messed up because my parents both suffered from mental illness, not because I came from a large family. My sister's kids, before she lost custody of her children, were suffering and she had a small family. I love my sister but the best thing that happened to her kids was that her ex husband made sure the kids went to live in stable homes
If I made money from my kids from videos they would have accounts fulll of money. I already have resp accounts for them and we make pennies. I find a way to ensure they will be ok. I kept a condo in case one needs a place to live. Yes they will need to pay but it will be reduced if they are going to any form of post secondary schooling
You could look into getting an investment account but make sure it is with a reputable company. It does not cost that much and you could have a set amount transferred to the investment account each month. A friend of mine has $25 a month transferred into his children's investment accounts each. It's not much but it will help the children's money grow.
Smart kid! And to be where she is... And for her to make that choice that's a VERY mature choice. She can take a step back and see what she wants to do and maybe she will come back and make the channel her own or maybe she won't...but it'll be on her terms and that's great❤️
I guarantee they're the type of parents that say "What stress! What you got to be stressed about as a kid?". I despise that phrase. Kids get stressed & have anxiety! As a parent you need to except it, help them with it & not ignore the shht out of them w/your invalidation.
Im glad Shari is choosing education over youtube. I hope that as she grows and is distanced from her family ( cough cough mom) she realizes that the choices made were unhealthy and she doesnt need to defend her parents or stress about them recieving hate over valid weirdness.
One of the last videos of Not enough Nelsons, (the tittle was like before youtube or something like that) at the end, the kids say some days they don’t want to film but they have to, that they have to record fridays and saturday and can’t meet their friends, and some kid even said he didn’t want to be on youtube but he had to.
The problem is these children are exposed to constantly working for the camera and not getting paid for it. They get trained in doing it for mommy or daddy to have money. Then they become teenagers and created their own channels in hopes of making some of their own money. If the children do not want to be on RU-vid then they should not be forced by parents to be on RU-vid. I have a friend who is a single parent and when his children started working and having income he did the following... #1 He helped them set up a bank account with direct deposit. #2 He helped them setup a small investment account with Edward Jones. #3 It was arranged so that on a certain day of every month a small amount is transferred from the bank account to the investment account. So that $25 a month can be safely invested and saved for the children's future. Children should not have to work to pay the bills for their parents. After all, we do have child labor laws in the US.

From what she described, she's almost certainly struggling with her mental health, symptoms very much point to anxiety. Do Mormons talk about mental health? I feel like Jordan and McKay have said before that this is not the case. Really glad she's taken the step herself to take her own path.

It's the Griffiths family, grandma and grandpa Griffiths, their 6 kids all have channels I think, 8 passengers, Elle and Jared, Bonnie hoellein, the deru crew, A Griffiths life, I don't know if the 6th kid has a channel or not. You should Definitely look into them would he a great series for many different topics, the Mormon aspect, exploiting their kids, a bunch of their kids have their own channels like sherri
If they truly wanted to be educational so dad's and single dads know.. you can do that without involving your kids. It's not a shock that teen and preteen girls may have periods. That's whatever. How hard is it to even be "we have kids with x issues. If you also have a kid with x issues, here's how we deal with it by doing a, b, c." Ex: "we have a daughter that experiences periods. So for going back to school, we made a care pack. We chose to include these items. These are just really nice to have and it really saves me from needing to go to the school to bring them extra things because they are already prepared. I involved my child in packing said pack so that they have choices in what goes in and help them make decisions about what they're willing and want to carry. Not only does this help them when they are having said issues, it's also teaching them to think about the choices they make, and how this choice about what to put in their pack today will effect them tomorrow." You don't have to disclose personal conversations you had with your kid. You don't have to exploit that. Listen okay. I got my first period at church camp on which my entire family staffed. I trusted ONE counselor that I thought I was dying (and that God was punishing me, it's actually a funny story but not relevant here) and by noon everyone knew what was happening to me and I was MORTIFIED. and this was only 500 people. I can only imagine how those little girls feel knowing hundreds of thousands to potentially millions of people are aware of their first period.
you know.. growing up my mom used to tell my siblings and I that we have such a great life because my parents had money to spend on us. now that we’re all older we’ve realized that money doesn’t buy happiness or love. it didn’t matter how much money my family had growing up or that they could take us on vacations. all we ever wanted growing up was to feel true love and care from our parents. it’s sad because i know how most of these youtube kids will feel when they’re older. my parents can’t accept that we have pulled away from them because they “gave us the world” with money instead of love and affection.
She college is off because her dad works at the school….if I remember ruby pays for grades and that money is meant to help with college but if I remember the money I’m sharis account went missing

I really do hope that the income she would've been making from youtube was actually going to her and not being withheld by her parents. I know from previous videos, that they put more than 50% of their income to the church.
I'm very happy for her. I ended up in the hospital at 23 with kidney failure and major depression because I wasn't paying attention to my mental health, repressing everything and taking on too much, not knowing I was making myself sick. I am almost sure she's avoiding ending up like me with her decision and I hope she follows through. Otherwise, her body will tell her to stop in dangerous ways. She has my support and admiration 👏🏼💪🏼💚
I agree with Josh about coercing kids to do videos. Even tacit coercion in the form of the child knowing they’ll get attention from their parents if they participate.
