The title and video pretty much explains it all. Video was taken when it was about 34 degrees F. The colder it is, the longer it sputters and harder the popping is. Also when it's below freezing, the carb will ring. TIA
I have a 720 and nothing done to yet, but apparently these are cold blooded engines and it takes a little bit to get running right... Some of the smoke has to do with the choke! Nice video
sounds good my 83 just sounds like a giant chain saw, out of all the nissans ive been threw ive noticed without alot of work u are lucky if they idle at all
Thanks for the help guys, but it turns out that the stock carb was just that much of a piece of shit. I ended up rebuilding and reinstalling my old Weber 32/36. Runs like a champ and I get better freeway mileage. Thanks again!
Got a 83 720 4x4 king cab does the same thing been doing a lotta looking into this these engines have valve adjustment issues even though they should self adjust and have carb issues . I had my valves adjusted and carb rebuilt ran like new for a year but now I’m back in this condition again if you find another answer I would love to see what you find because this gets on my nerves too.
Isnt there a sensor on the stock carb that heats up from exhaust temp opening the throttle after a cold start? I think it connects to the metal cove on the original manifold.
my 85 did that too but i checked the spark plugs and they were not gapped so i changed all 8 spark plugs they were old anyways when the engine water gets warm the carb will turn off choke
it only does it when its cold at first, but after a few minutes and a little reving it runs and idles clean again right?...I have an '87 hardbody, but it has the same motor you have, it needs new plugs. thats what the problem is. the plugs are worn out and possibly covered in carbon build up, but once they warm up, they work fine. thats happened to mine a couple times now. change out the plugs and she'll run like a champ again
Back when the video was taken (your not gonna believe this) it was mostly stock. It had a horribly jetted Weber 32/36, long tube header, and no-name muffler. It's since be blown up and rebuilt better. Now I will tell you that it has a camshaft that makes it sound like that naturally. Plus a few other custom things.
I just got a 83 and I'm looking for that sound that you had on yours bro... gonna add the Weber 32/36 first..... so I just need the carb, the camshaft, and sound exhaust tips ? I've got the 2.4L Z motor
