Both of them have turbo, but the one with 'turbo' label is more powerful. And they say stickers don't produce horses.

considering the 996 has a considerable amount of torque, and even has a tune, i was expecting way more from the 996 than just a car length..

yeah but all the torque is down low. everybody forgets torque really doesn't mean anything in a race, it's power. and if he was running the 996 to redline then he was running it outside the powerband. even nick commented that it falls on it's face above 5k.

I actually like the look of the 996. Took awhile, but it grew on me. If you're worried about "peaking" just have it tuned better and be more "linear" like you want.

2:36 Nick, aesthetically, the 996 is my favourite 911 with its late 90's Euro, molded looks. The 996 was a meaningful evolution of the 911 theme, especially in the interior. If you line up all the 911's, the 996 was a bit of a schism, an earnest look to the future, unlike the 997 which was a bit of a regression fettered by the past.

Like any other "internet" opinion it gets ganged on by people becuase its the thing to do. The GT1-evo and -98 Le Mans car had the same headlights. Because they aren't the oval lights they are ugly? I don't think so at all. I think what was the reason people hate them is because of the non aggressive front bumper on these cars. I've seen really nice clean examples of the 996 and the headlights are fine.

The only downside I can possibly find are the headlights, which aren't even that bad, but my preference are the round lights. But the thing is there are tons of kits online to convert the headlights over to the round 997 style as well as the front bumper.

The 996 GT2 ist so aggressive and beautiful. So just swap out the front bumper on the turbo.. plus that Mezger Motor ist a monster with so much aftermarket support

Great video! I have a 2003 996tt that makes over 700hp to the wheels and I absolutely love it! Really jealous of your editing and camera setup(s). Made me realize I've got a long way to go on my videos!

I wish they made more interiors timeless rather than following the latest 'modern' or trendy design aesthetics. Its not often that a cars interior stays fairly timeless. However, I think Porsche has topically done a good job at that.

Try sitting in one - they are pretty awful by modern standards - the gauges on this one make a big difference, but the standard 996 Carerra interior is really a product of the 90's and now days you would get better in an average family saloon.

Matthew Sharpe there is absolutely nothing wrong with the interior...even by modern standards. stop talking bs. the vast majority of turbo interiors are optioned out and are very very nice places to be.

Nick. Enjoy your Vids and content. In this one the 996 TT walked away from yours in all gears n pulls. I just purchased an 01 TT with a GT2 conversion for $42,000. My car has been dyno tested by EVOMS at 525Hp at the Wheels n that's tuned extremely conservatively. These cars are by far the best value for the $$$ in the Porsche world and exotic market in general. Keep up the good work.

Your videos about 911 are the ones that I enjoy the most Nick. Even more now that I bought a 991.1 S that I enjoy driving on weekends while my 2015 Denali remains as my daily driver. By the way, you should have sticked to your first choice of green colour while ordering your car; this colour (the green) will now become very trendy thanks to the 1 million edition of 911.

Great video Nick! We are currently working on a review of our 996 TT X50. You are so right - the 996 TT is one of the best stock performance bargains now. You get used to the lights is like a week and I like the interior over the 997. It is a premium car with all the bells and whistles of that time. The ride is a little harsh, but go nuts around some corners and you'll see why. Great comparison! Franny

Nick Murray nice review but the Aztec of 911s? I don't get why people don't like the headlights. I like the car, but the 996 Turbo (X-50) is my second daily driver. It does perform great in the snow, as I am sure your 4S does too. The week I bought that car (2014), a guy asked me if the car was a 2013 or a 2014. I told him it was an 04. I think some people think the look is very modern. Franny is fretting over our review. It's been like three weeks now that we have tried to get a decent video out. I think your 996 is pushing us right along with Doug Demuro's review as well. Heidi

I just got an '04 996 TT X50 late last year. Love it, both for performance and looks. Mind you I've always liked the old 928, which was also shunned by Porschephiles for a long while.... not anymore though! I honestly don't think that average onlookers can see much difference between various 911 iterations, except that they like them all. LOL

I saw a 2004 996 Turbo that had spun out and hit all four corners needing new front fenders, bumper and hood as well as new rear quarter panels and rear bumper for sale for $20,000. It had less than 30,000 miles on it too. I wish I had the money to buy it because it would have been a perfect car to do a 997 body conversion on. The 997 conversion pieces would have been cheaper than fixing it with the 996 body parts and then you would have had a great looking car with the performance to match for a good price.

It's wild how fast the older turbo still is. Granted it's had a little work to it, but still! Both are great cars, you either are a fan of Porsche or you like cars long enough to become a Porsche fan.

Spot on about the red. I'm normally not a fan but it looks so good on this 996. The owner should treat himself to a new stereo head unit and delete the console below.

996 turbo is a great car. love mine. mine is very heavily modded to over 1000whp though. a few minor mods though and these cars are easily in the 600whp range and can keep up basically anything and are very good on track as well.

Wow. was not expecting that! Thought the 991.2 would better it in every gear. But i guess the bigger turbo and greater boost wins the day. Still take the 991.2 for everyday driving and 996 for the weekend.

I love the look of the 996. There is something about it. I don’t exactly prefer it over the 997 overall, but I do almost like it equally as much. It’s got that late 90s early 2000s look to it that no other Porsche model has, I think other than the lights it is beautiful.

Oh, forgot to mention, the HP might not be the only difference as I have noticed that 2nd and 3rd gear are super strong in the 996, my 911 C4 can actually get rolling in 3rd and go all the way to 125-129 MPH, showing the torque and overall range of just that one gear (0MPH - 129MPH in one gear (3rd)) not bad at all.

This is what happens when you race a mass produced dfi consumer engine vs a tuned mezger block. Sadly the results with the new turbo s isn't much better vs the old turbos when tuned but they can be made fast I love stomping anything 991 with my .1 turbo running e-85. The looks on their faces are priceless

last day i was at the stoplight with a 3 cylinder 1.0liter car next to and aventador..the performance was likewise just like your cars... first lights it was dead heat even though the aventador was ahaead just like your drag race.. the second run the aventador was gaining speed in 3rd gear just like your video.....

Nick and fellows: Pardon me. It is a bit off topic as we are comparing to the old model here. I am currently doing my homework on the 991.2 and eyeing on the GTS 4 at the moment. I am thinking to place my order next year the soonest. However, by then 992 will just be around the corner. Looking at what the Panamera has it might worth the wait. Like the Hybrid engine, 8 speed pdk, interior upgrade and such. What's your take on it?

Hi Nick. Sorry to say, but that wasn't a dead heat. The definition of a dead heat is "a situation in which two or more competitors in a race are exactly level". The Turbo clearly shows it was pulling away from the C4S.
