I orders some G9 and there customer service was top notch. I had just moved and I screwed up my address. The guys there not only understood, but they bent over backwards to get the shipment to the right place. They have earned this customer.

The penetration tests really surprised me. The 9mm performance was better than I expected. Use whatever you have is the moral of the story. Someone will always have bigger, longer stronger. Thanks

I have shot a ton of big Texas Wild Hogs with 9mm. I have used some high powered expensive stuff like the Underwood +p+ 147hp's but mostly fmj 115 and 124. I usually get total penetration. I wouldn't call it a great caliber for putting down big hogs quick but, it will do the job. Based on my confidence in 9mm when I go into bear country. I usually just carry the NATO 124 in my Glock 19. Underwood at one time sold their +p+ in fmj. 115-147. If I was going up to say Alaska, I would probably try to get my hands on the Underwood +p+ in 124 fmj. Also, I would probably carry my G17 over my G19. As a Traditional Bowhunter I like to travel light so lower 48, I have seen enough out of a G19 and hot ball rounds to feel pretty comfortable around bears plus, it holds a ton of shots. Kinda like save the last round for yourself 😆

If you get an opportunity to try projectiles like this please report back. My biggest issue with typical FMJ is most have rounded profiles that increase the chances of deflection.

@7N6 True, 9mm ball can skip or ricochet for sure. Although I have never had it skip off of a hog, I can definitely see it might be likely on a frontal shot. I guess if we are talking dangerous animal defense that is likely the shot you will encounter. Most 147 fmj's are flat nose so, that might make more sense in ball. If I ever see that ammo I will give it a try and report back. One thing about Texas plenty of meat targets running around.

In Alaska anyone so stupid ignorant to think to use home defense handguns on our large and dangerous bears is a F ing idiot ! My clients for their guided brown bears hunts are required to bring a minimum of a 338-win mag and large rifles is even better not a weak home defense handguns or shotgun. Second stupidity is denial why all Alaskan bear hunting guides like me and guides I do contract work for we all use not less than a 338 win mag with the most common rifle cartridges are 375 magnums to 416 magnums and again I will say it Not a weak home defense handgun! Got to be a real stupid city slicker green horn mother F er to think handguns are bears guns. Even the 30-30 win shooting 170 grain bullets far exceeds any handgun energy by far and a 30-30 is never thought of a Alaskan bear gun.

Interesting results with the G9. There is very little out there about this round. The other one involved the Woodsman zipping through the gel leaving a thin line. Naturally, G9 hasn't put any hype into it either. I do have some and it took some ramp shaping to get ot to work in a TNW ASR. I see about 200fps faster than advertised with the 16" barrel. No jug or testing with them yet.

Should be pretty comparable across the board. Typically there just isn’t that significant of a difference between service calibers.

The 10mm dumped a lot of energy in the first two jugs, that's why it only went one jugs deeper, that's a really great 9mm round though, I'd definitely recommend my girl carry that ammo, but I'm a 10mm guy, so hope they start making it in 10mm soon 🙏

If you don't own a larger caliber handgun than 9mm, this round may be as good or better than other nonexpanding 9mm ammo for woods carry. However, to choose this over a 10mm with the same type of projectile would not make sense as the 10 is going to penetrate deeper. There are many better cartridges available in revolvers such as the 357mag, 41mag, 44mag, 45 Colt +P, 454 Casul, 480 Ruger & some giant cartridges such as the 460 S&W, 500S&W & 45-70 when loaded with proper projectiles

Do the G9 woodsman in 10mm. Only way accurately compare. Hard to look at a solid copper projectile and compare to another projectile from a different manufacturer and different design and say "any caliber for the win". That would be like comparing chronograph info from a 10mm Liberty Civil Defense to remington 9mm whitebox. Liberty running 2400 fps over 720ft lbs compared to 9mm falling out of the end of the barrel
@7N6ballistics

All the projectiles penetrated adequately…that was the purpose of comparison…. We have real world feedback on the 9mm 147gr hardcast as a baseline. See my previous video.

If you are looking for a test on paper identifying the difference in 10mm vs 9mm, then I accept your point. But the purpose of this test is to see how a 9mm can stack up to what is well known to be an accepted and trusted configuration in using the buffalo bore ammo in the 10mm. So, seeing how any bullet could perform in a 9mm is a legitimate test against this configuration "for dangerous game" as the video title suggests. The fact the G9 did so well, and very close to the 10mm w/ buffalo bore shows it is a very real option for those who for whatever reason prefer the 9mm, or already have one and do not want to purchase another. Remember, it is not just about raw power, if it was, then neither of these would be the ticket. It is also about control, and ability for successive fire accurately and the 9mm will allow you to do that per less recoil. Less recoil on the 9mm can also mean more practice, more comfort, more familiarity and better ability for those who shoot it. People do get fatigued if not scared of recoil, so it can severely impact your ability to hit the target on the first shot, let alone successive shots. This is not a controlled environment where you know where, when or how far or fast the bear/moose or smaller carnivore will attack. Additional variables including being able to get the firearm out in time is a factor and the reality is you will be able to get off quicker and more accurate shots with the 9mm per the less recoil, so that is a very real factor. I know on TV, or reading the magazines, this all looks easy, but I assure you, when placed in the situation, it becomes very real, very scary and happens very quickly. You don't have time to think, and the difference between getting off 2 or 3 shots can be the difference in life or death; for you. In that regard, there is no way to get an "apples to apples" comparison, as real life does not work that way. But like any other test that people compare the two cartridges, it is reasonable to expect the G9 Woodsman in 10mm to surpass that of the buffalo bore in the same, and extend said performance over the 9mm. That should be common sense and an obvious result at this point.

I understand, but I don’t see any reason not to expect good results. The thing about the 10mm is there are a lot of basic loadings that work well in this application, so it’s not really a priority.

Good bullet design by G9... Remember that when these 9mm fans applaud how well their ++++p over pressured rounds barely can stack up against a low pressure regular 10mm fmj range ammo...lol. get your point about the comparison...but. got a sense that you're biased on 9mm. The 10mm is the best magazine feed high capacity handgun out there when it comes to ammo availability, price per rnd. I use to be biased too...40cal, then 357mag ,then 357SIG, now Ive settled on 10mm anything... you can shoot lower pressure rnds for those w weak grips or the hand dynamite missiles out there.
@7N6ballistics
@7N6ballistics 6 дней назад
@@newblue41 this round is +p…in fact very few +p+ 9mm rounds perform any better than regular or +p…so far I haven’t found much real use for +p+. Now..with all that said…any Nato approved 9mm can handle industry standard +p+…as Nato pressure specs allow up to 42k. In other words…you are not really hurting anything using +p…it would be considered standard pressure for the gun design. Also, there is no such thing as +p 10mm…however it is pretty clear from the number of 10mm kabooms that some manufactures are in fact pushing “+p “ in their loadings. I would also challenge anyone to show better functional reliability from 10mm vs 9mm…it is one of the reasons 9mm is becoming so popular yet again…functional reliability of the platforms. I like 10mm…own and load for several, as well as .357 sig now…they can all have some niche application, but when it comes to picking just one…its not really a contest…if any of my test would show a significant difference, I would likely change my opinion..but to date..handguns are handguns..more alike than different. I don’t control the results..they are what they are.
@newblue41
@newblue41 5 дней назад
@@7N6ballistics I was being facetious about +++p anything. The point is everyone has their opinion..thats great... just giving mine. I've worked up from 40cal to 357mag snub and 4" barrel then to 357 SIG as magazine capacity. For urban EDC, I think the 357 SIG is the winner as they are already high pressure rated and sold as specifically for self defense to be consistent with > 3" wound channels without over penetration. The 9mm does not get to the same velocities as a 357 SIG and tends to over penetrate. There are too many loadings for 9mm... which is a good thing for knowledgeable gun owners..but, novices don't understand ballistics and those special high pressure loadings cost just as much as 357 SIG and 10mm ammo. Cost wise $$ , just get the bigger gun to achieve the higher velocities for even better results. Conclusions... to choose a caliber that is effective as a 357 magnum for one shot stops those would be either 357 SIG or 10mm for wound channel ballistics, energy, penetration. But, to save $$$ the cheapest and for BULK 1000rds 9mm $0.27 rd... 124gn fmj x1150ft/sec =364ft/lbs energy. 40cal $0.37 180gn fmj x1000ft/sec = 400ft/lbs energy. 10mm $0.46 180gn fmj x1200ft/sec = 576ft/lbs enery 10mm $.52 180gn HP** X1200 same as above 576ft/lbs energy. Let's not lie here... 9mm is the cheapest ...but it is not uncommon for at least 3-4 shots are required to STOP the threat.. now multiply 3shots x $0.26 = $0.76 cents per threat.... that is more reloads and hits on a moving target vs ONE shot center of mass without worrying so much as shot placement because you had the energy to increase wound cavity damage... yes, I know...fmj is not a wound channel maker...hence, I would go w the 10mm 15rd clips at HP at $0.56 rd for 520ft/energy for BULK ammo... so the winner for this = 10mm for my opinion. You're going to spend more $$$ to get more rounds in a single target to equal the damage of ONE 10mm pill... thanks for your opinions, as I enjoy the exchange of opinions. It's great 👍 👏
