Abandoned House

Walking around an area that is unknown to me near the city of Durham, dusk was rapidly drawing plunging darkness onto the surrounding countryside.
Walking alone with only a small hand torch and camera, I came across an abandoned house/hall/country estate. How could I resist taking a look inside?
I found a noose hanging in a tower, then for some reason I made my way to the basement where I heard noises from the rooms above.
Sorry about the quality of the video, most of it was taken on the mobile phone and cheap GoPro copy camera - also I didn't murmur a single word (not normal for me!) so I've stuck a load of sound clips courtesy of Kevin Maclaud whom also provided sound for movies of other mines that I have yet to publish on this channel (but will likely remake when I get time).

With the torch beam, was like watching a video game, kept expecting somebody or something to jump out!

Lol, as did I nearing the end! (I kept thinking I could hear something behind and started looking back- definately the worst thing I can do as this really makes my mind work overtime- was glad to leave in the end).

@@MineExploration Yep, I used to do the same all the time when I first started exploring underground, hated being at the back of the group.

@UK Abandoned Mine Explores Lol, Yeap I know that feeling well! In the end I would go alone and force my mind into thinking what on earth would possibly come up behind. One of the worst things I did was sit in Rampgill after having walked for hours, turn all my lights off and had a cup of coffee sitting on a wall. I thought of every beastie I'd ever seen on the TV in that moment, the coffee went to the floor and I was off on tender hooks all the way back until I realised that there couldn't possibly be anything in there. I find it easier to occupy my mind by thinking of the map in my head or talking to the camera or something other than thinking of nonsense stuff. Lol, yes- my mind is a bit better trained now thinking back, I used to hate being at the back of a group as well, especially when making our way back out.

@@MineExploration Lol, yes, never done a solo exploration, but seriously considering doing rampgil heads as one just to get over it. I know I will be constantly looking over my shoulder. Think is, these mines could easily make you issues, the area of rampgill we were in today trapped an experienced party for over 2 hours but gave us a free pass, video up in a few weeks but it's absolutely fascinating, so I think, in the end it's the mine that judges you and decides your fate :)

It was an old seminary when it was built, my mother can remember going there as a small child on a school visit which would have been around the time that it was running down - there's a new building not far from the location where the ministers (or whatever they were called) were moved to and it is still inhabited today. There's a lot to this building, it is really quite a size. Once this lockdown/covid thing is over with then I'll try again to get access again as someone that I occasionally see in the local pub gave private tours around the newer/used part of the building. Thanks for watching!

@@MineExploration Ooh cool, it would be awesome to see a full explore of the new and old together. Very interesting place though, thank you. x

Funny, I'll go in mines that have been abandoned for hundreds of years, but don't like urbex, smelly, dangerous buildings just give me a bad vibe.

In some ways I'm the same. In mines I rarely come across anyone, (or anyone that isn't friendly) let alone someone on drugs etc. In urbex one can bump into all sorts, some of which I'd rather not have met which was my concern at looking around this place.

@@MineExploration Yes, you get a lot of undesirables hanging around those places, and some of them are urbexers. Plus the chance of drugs paraphanalia such as needles, can be quite hazardous.
