I have started cycling for 6 months now. Have been watching Jeff's videos for a while now. Have only competed in 2 races till now. In the first race, I got second last and in the second one, I was 12-13th out of 25ish. Still, whenever I watch his videos, I feel I can do anything.

I have my first ever XC race on the first of August, although watching crit racing does not directly translate to XC race, the most important thing I have learned from Jeff is to be smart during the race, and to have a plan for the race.

Attack on the last lap cause Reikert said some snark at Livermore so I wanted to drop 185lbs over the top of him on the hill, plus matt likes it long and I got caught right were he wanted to pop, but you got him at the line. Anyways good local #critbeef #shaddowbanned #mothmantruther

You guys are so lucky to have those closed streets . I can’t believe the homeowners agreed to this . Here in Nova Scotia Canada too many people hate cyclists and would never agree to this set up . Most sanctioned races we get to have end up on open roads with cars going by . Unless we have a race on a track.

Raced on Saturday in my local criterium (UK) and I took exactly what you’ve said previously and reiterated here to mind - think about the people around you and their motivations in the race. My team were stacking the pack around loads of single racers, so I smashed it off the front on the final lap to get caught within 500mish of the line by the non team racers working for no one and my sprinter got an armchair ride - worked perfectly 😂 I’m disappointed because I didn’t get a result however the team got a win so 🤷‍♂️ and I know that give it another go or two I could come away with a cheeky W

The thing I love about these videos is the whole psychological aspect to it, because to newer viewers like when I first got into road racing and crit racing you literally think strongest rider wins. Nope so much goes into racing a good race vs racing an amazing race.

Thank you Joy. I never did any training just a lot of group rides and then I got an indoor trainer and zwift. I was doing a lot of short races and initially the high-intensity 5 + was increasing power and then I fell off a cliff. I talked to a coach and he stated I needed a tremendous amount of Zone 2 to build up endurance without stress and he has me off the Bicycle completely to recover and then to start applying power smartly after building up my base miles

I do a weekly practice crit, usually a weekend race, and often a training ride in zone 4+ every week for the past decade, and i'm still alive 😂

@@NorCalCycling Umm, think you ride to/from work daily in zone 2, then add 2-3 hard days at max.... which is pretty much what is now recommended vs " a lot of riding in zones 3,4 +". @cgbach dont forget the hard days you need to do with all that slow zone 2 stuff. zone 2 alone is not fast.

ive started cycling in dec and i was wonderin if u have any tips on how to improve my max power output? its currently at 890W (i know its low haha), would love to be able to really improve those numbers

There are tons of 5 second power, 10 second power and 20 second power workouts, but at the end of the day, especially for a younger rider, you get better at stuff you do. That's it. (also, hit gym for max power)

I love this course... it has everything, a variety of corners in both directions, a little hill tough enough to cause pain w/o dominating, a bit where the directions converge.... I put a version of it for RGTCycling here: rgtdb.com/courses/186734

Course marshals and permitting are required, among other things, for a sanctioned race like this. You're best bet is to reach out to the promotor of the event, Velo Promo.

It’s the 43rd running of that crit. The residents are used to it…in fact they love it. They host cookouts in the front yard and spend the afternoon watching the races.

After doing a technical crit yesterday, I'd love to see footage of the beginning of this race. On a technical course it seems like the break is formed in the first couple laps?

I wish gopro made cameras with longer lasting batteries. I didn't turn on the camera until the moment you see footage in this race.
