I think I've seen her on three different shows and in each one she's playing the most awkward character ever flawlessly. Have you seen her in the IT Crowd Dinner Party episode? Man she's funny.
The role of April was to reveal that Mark is too deeply flawed to ever stop ruining his own life. April was written to tick every box that Mark could have wanted. She was young, beautiful, intellectual, yet still awkward and humble. If Mark had played his cards right, that is, showed her that Angus was distant and patronizing, while he was needy and loving, April might have chosen him over Angus. Instead he tries to manipulate her emotions and sabotage her marriage. He didn't need to sabotage her marriage. April already was moving on, and Angus knew it. Mark's problem was that he felt inferior to Angus, and he is so insecure that he couldn't see that April would have left Angus and given him yet another chance (after the one he spoiled at Uni) if he had just given her the opportunity.
"I'm a bit slooow. They'll soon knock that out of me. Along with any individuality. Not that I've got any!" She was the one and he couldn't stop lying to save his life.
The writing on this show is brilliant, isn't it? There are little moments which can be lost in the brilliant chaos, but they're there: "They got me outside the travel agency" is one such moment. Just gets funnier the more you hear it. It's all fantastically well done.
Why didn't you include any of the dinner party in s9 e3, Threeism? The freakshow sideshow at the shitshow is very entertaining - as is Mark's attempt to wheedle, wheedle, pry & needle into April & Angus' marital difficulties.
April could've been Mark's one, but not quite. Her drug use and her stance agaisnt digital devices are two of the things Mark would've found annoying about her. Stephanie on the other hand didn't seem to have any trait that could've potentially annoyed Mark. But of course, this is because he didn't get to know her. Which is a shame, Stephanie was an exciting character.
I think we all see a bit of ourselves in Mark haha. Mark should have got together with April at Darty and lived happily ever after, but that wouldn't have made for a good series.
@@davidz2808 yes of course, i meant he should have hooked up and maybe made an excuse about having to switch back to Coventry or maybe an OU course! Its wasn't really a script idea but more that i always rooted for Mark and liked the idea of him getting quirky April over that nightmare Sophie.
Mark walks out on Stephanie, the best woman for him, in s8 e4, Big Mad Andy. April is the second-best for him. When he meets April 9 y after he failed to seduce her, he's determined to poach her.
@@davidz2808 He says to her "I transferred to Dartford and then straight back to Coventry" during the book signing clip. Neither of them seemed the mobile phone/social media types and Mark would have been too embarrassed in any case.
Things seem to be improving for Mark & Jez when Mark begins his fling with April & Jez's life becomes a 24/7 BJ bonanza due to his simultaneous flings with Joe & Megan.
@Joshua Mcgillivray by the time the final series came around, Valerie would have been that much older, so it could have possibly worked out - unless she unfortunately devolved out of her "punky goth girl" form, into something mundane... which would inevitably happen, after being in a LTR with Mark.
