Blacksmithing - Forging A Dragon Head Railroad Spike Knife

Here is the full length video of the Dragon Head. I wanted to do something different from the typical forged dragon. I know it looks like just a modification of the Ram's head but it was really a different beast. Or at least my approach was quite different.

This truly inspires me to get into blacksmithing. Of course, it would take much time to make anything as awesome as Chandler, but I can't imagine NOT getting lost in time, working away and creating something so beautiful and useful out of raw metal. I'm only 19 years old, but I figure if I start now, I can only get better at it with time.

Outstanding, loved the step by step creation, really bought out the work involved and the attention to detail was what brought it to a finish that was simply art!

i am 16 and would like to call myself an amateur knife maker, basically meaning i make what resembles a knife out of any good metal that i can get my hands on, but you inspired me to do what i do and i find it so much fun to work with metal and afterwards sit back and look at what i did and simply stair in aw how i could make such a thing... but you and ZNA productions really inspired me to keep doing what i do and would love it if i could make a good living doing so. thanks for the awesome videos i love your work

Beautiful work! I have some old railroad spikes I salvaged from the old header that was behind my shed when I bought my house. Complete novice who just got his first little forge and anvil but i'm hoping to make a hatchet head and knife (after much practice with other metal scrap) one day out of them!

I would love to see you make an elk head skinning knife out of a railroad spike. That dragon looked pretty awsome and challenging and i think the elk would be more challenging since there are more tines and points on the antlers. I love to see blacksmiths challenge themselves and i think alot of the people on youtube would like to see you challenge yourself more often. If you would consider making the elk head out of a railroad spike that woild be awsome
@chandlerdickinson
@chandlerdickinson 9 лет назад
brandon vessey Drop me an email at chandlersstore@mindspring.com I think the challenge would be to make the antlers in a way that would be strong, look realistic and not be in the way of using the knife... but elk and white tail are on my todo list... somewhere

Really great work on this knife. I wonder however if it would have been possible to get the horns thinner and pointier? Or would that risk melting them right off? I really enjoy these longer videos with you explaining the details as you go along.

Nice work, Chandler. I have always found art in steel is always such a pleasure to look at. Makes me want to try it, but I think not at age 69. Maybe next lifetime. When I retire next month I intend to try my hand at MIG welding, inspired by my daughter, who is a welder/armourer/CNC operator. I just stumbled across this vid, and now you have a new Canadian subscriber. Thanks for putting your art up for all to enjoy. I am off to check out your store at etsy.com. There may be an order coming your way shortly. I like your approach. Cheers
