Boeing 737MAX is a large-scale modernization and the fourth generation of the eternal 737 family. It was released in spring of 2017 and, soon, will replace its predecessor - the NG model line.
As with the A320neo program, the main MAX innovation is the new engine, but apart from that, the guys from Everett did a lot of work on the old man.

@@knockitofff Thats not the mindset, as to why aviation became relatively safe over the time. Not saying, that you dont got a point to some degree, but badly trained and therefor badly acting* pilots were just one part of the whole problem. FAA, Boeing, the Airlines and the Piltos could've done better, to prevent these accidents from happening. But none of these parties did a great jab. The pilots are the poor ones for beeing the last in this chain of failure, and they are the only ones who paid with their lifes. All in all, your comment seems to be small-minded, arrogant, ignorant and disrespectful. * = badly acting in terms of: "Only a nearly perfect performance could've saved the planes".

The joke is that McDonnell-Douglas purchased Boeing with Boeing's money. Boeing buys them then McDonnell-Douglas execs took over the company and kicked the Boeing execs out, somehow. The lawyer-accountants replaced the engineers at the top of the company, hence the 737Max disaster. With that and the communist labor unions, it's the end of Boeing.

@hlim431
@hlim431 4 года назад
I'll just remind everyone that Boeing has spent $46 billion to buy & cancel their own shares, 25% eliminated which causes the share price to rise. Now they are borrowing $10-12 billion for short term cash flow? The "value" of 5000 planes is 0.5 trillion! When no passengers will fly on it they will suffer HUGE depreciation or the orders will be cancelled altogether. Ryanair ordered 100 but said they will not be forcing customers to fly on it --- they are NOT stupid!!

inisipisTV that may be true as of now, however unlike most people, businesses look at business moves FAR ahead of what people see currently. Who is to say that the losses now won’t be made later? I guess a really good way to see what the future of 737 is, When Boeing announces the 797 watch what Southwest does. SWA is the largest 737 operator in the world right now if they decide to shift to 797 that will certainly be an indicator. Of course that said, With so many of these planes built and ordered odds are the 737 will be around until some technology makes the subsonic jet airliner itself obsolete.

The problem with the 737 is that, because of decisions made for the very first 737, it is not competitive enough in the current market. Sure they have been able to update it enough to keep it just good enough, but it's not enough anymore to beat Airbus. With some outdated design characteristics they can at best be second in the single isle market. If they want to beat Airbus in the single isle market they have to design a completely new aircraft that can use the most modern technological advancements from the start. With updating an aircraft you can only do so much before you reach the maximum potential, and Boeing has almost reached that point and many further advancements are so difficult and expensive for relatively little improvement that it's not worth it. And it's not a surprise, the development on the 737 started about 55 years ago and the first (test) flights were performed over 50 years ago. Back then engine technology was very different, requirements for short turnaround-times, airports services, runway requirements were all different, the possible materials were different and as the world of aviation was different airlines required different types of aircraft. One of those things was that a twin-engine aircraft could cross oceans, thus there wasn't much need for long-range single isle aircraft, which is much different now. Boeing can keep up with the 737 for the next decade probably, but in my opinion, they should start some fundamental development on a replacement for the 737 that can form that backbone of Boeing for the 21st century.

From Wikipedia: The 737 is unusual in that it still uses a hydro-mechanical flight control system, similar to the Boeing 707 (from 1957) and typical of the period, that transmits pilot commands to control surfaces by steel cables run through the fuselage and wings rather than by an electrical fly-by-wire system as used in all of the Airbus fleet and all later Boeing models.[95] This has been raised as a safety issue because of the impracticality of duplicating such a mechanical cable-based system in the way that an electrical or electronic system can be. This leaves the flight controls as a single point of failure, for example by metal fragments from an uncontained engine failure penetrating the wings or fuselage.
@AmbientMorality
@AmbientMorality 4 года назад
Last point is fairly week - just as much a problem with wire bundles, and the solution is to route multiple bundles through so that it is less likely that all will be taken out. But it's amazing (and great) that we live in a time where it is unusual to have the old hydromechanical control systems that used to be so standard

To be honest. Boeing create planes for goods. Airbus create planes to compete with Boeing. So, the B737 MAX Series is created to make the 737 more next-gen. I know that the 737 was old, but Boeing create this to make a next-gen aircraft. You airbus fans just cares what fan are you of without thinking anything. I prefer Boeing more than airbus, but I still loved those 2 airlines hardwork. I loved the 787, but I also loved the A350.

Two different markets. Boeing does a better job catering to Airlines that are profit driven first. Hence the 737 max really means the 737 thats "cramped to the max seats". While Airbus would cater to Airlines that are government owned and care more for service and comfort before profit as they are essentially flying ambassadors for that country ie. Emirates.

I suspect it has to do with diligent upgrades, commonality of maintenance and flight certification, and lower costs because of continuity of production line. But damn. I don't understand some pilots' assertion that they didn't know about MCAS. With flaps retracted and autopilot off, did they never notice the trim wheels spinning without the button pushed? Pilots are generally pretty sharp. Hmmm ... AP is off - what is trimming the stab?
@FindLiberty
@FindLiberty 5 лет назад
Yea, sudden onset of trouble? ...undo the last thing you did. But that onset might have been delayed; one plane even had same problem and maintenance missed fixing it. A few minutes of training, even a mention how/why MCAS worked could have helped those doomed pilots deal with that crazy trim wheel situation: *Turn those two switches OFF or Add any amount of FLAPS and MCAS stops jack-screwing around.* 20:20 hindsight Cost Cuts versus Training and now Lost Reputation. FUBAR sucky software design that lacked standard redundancy (needs at least three sensor inputs, not just one). Called it _pilot error_ at first before Trump grounded all of them. Even if much safer now, how are future sales doing? Will anyone still buy a ticket to fly? So sad. R.I.P.

In the next, 737 5th generation, boeing will put the engines ABOVE the wings, which will sometimes make the plane drop like stone from the sky & roll over, but no worries. The MCAS MAX V 8.0 will compensate that (via a software you couldn't possibly understand) and so no new training will be required for the pilots. Ryanair already ordered 3400 of these. @MajorDrama1 5 лет назад
Aaah but you can just turn off the MCAS software as this hull shape is aerodynamically too unstable to fly without a computer nanny monitoring and nudging its natural tendency to stall.. All a by-product of "pushing the (efficiency) design envelope".. So you have limit state engineering augmented by software to nudge it into a (just) pass category on aerodynamic stability.. Houston (Seattle) I think we have a much bigger problem!

@@AmbientMorality then why does MCAS exist?
@felipaorfr
@felipaorfr 4 года назад
@@christophermorley161 MCAS exists not because the plane is unstable. It's because it must behave the same way old 737's behave, so no expensive pilot training is needed. But it does not behave the same, mainly because the position of the new engines. So MCAS was created so it feels like and old 737 to the pilot. It backfired spectacularly as we can see.
@christophermorley161
@christophermorley161 4 года назад
@@felipaorfr It exists for both reasons. You are correct in that the "Augmentation" part of the name is due to making to making it feel like a 737, but its other job is compensating for the aircraft's aerodynamic instability due to the new placement of the engines. It is unstable because if power is added, then the nose tends to pitch up, as the thrust is below the centre of gravity. However, it will pitch up much further than the old 737NG, and will enter a stall much more readily. It is for this second reason that MCAS is required. Instability is like a ball on top of a hill. The steeper the hill, the faster the ball will roll, like the more unstable an aircraft is, the more quickly it will deviate from straight level flight. The other thing about this is, the ball takes a lot of energy to stop it rolling, and much more energy to reverse the roll and get it to the top of a hill. Same with aerodynamics in aircraft: the more unstable, the more energy is needed to stop the pitching up and tons is needed to reverse it and achieve level flight. This is part of why MCAS exists- the Boeing test pilots were horrified by what they found when they started chucking it about, and the trim needs to be adjusted to compensate for the plane's willingness to pitch up dramatically at high AOA. However, you are very right in suggesting that it was to make it similar/the same to fly as the previous 737, but that's only part of the reason.

The old plane is much nicer than new type ... the wheels are hiding /cover not being seen under the plane... I guess that is the cause of plunging to the surface (ground ,sea) because of the pressure during flight even you have new engine which might did quarter of its problem/crashes , too much outward of its engine and not centered the position of its engine like others , the more gust of winds the ore trust and climb can give to the plane and double the speed of plunge down even you change flaps on both wings and adding thrust still can’t help to reduce plunge
