I love how she starts saying that the person who did it didn’t want avon to know, and purposely made it look like a suicide and the camera pans towards stringer, and his eyes are jumping as he realizes how the truth was coming out.
Oh age knew for sure when she said to do with what 🤔then string gives that stupid azz line whatever happened she thinks they in on it together or maybe string ordered it & Avon let it go
@dwightwilkerson8664 yea avon knew for sure, and he let it happen just like how he was about to let dangelo die from drugs in prison. Avon told dangelo something is going down and he needs to get off the drugs for a few days. He didn't even tell him what was gonna happen, he just let it happen while he calmly read his book listening to prisoners screaming and dying.
Definitely. And in a way it can be said that his reaction (if you didn't know all that he's keeping secret) is a shallow one that wouldn't acquit him in Brianna's eyes if she was thinking of blaming him for D'Angelo's death.
@@dr2599 And let's face it, Avon was always more honest than Stringer. Stringer lies almost constantly on the show. Avon might tell a few lies but generally he's pretty open. You can see how heavily this weighs on him whereas Stringer is used to this shit. He has no problem fucking a man's girl while he's in prison, then offing him and lying to his family.... one of my favorite characters but damn if he ain't a snake
The actress that plays Brianna Barksdale is from Birmingham, England and the actor that plays Stringer Bell is from London, England. I still cannot wrap my head around that.
He’s just a average drug dealer he’s good at playing it but what kind of award does he deserve he plays the same reserved character in everything he’s in above the rim paid in full ect I like him but just a good actor
The way Stringer is finishing Avon's sentences for him speaks volumes. Plus we know that Avon knows the truth, and is absolutely disgusted that he has to lie to his own sister about it too. This was a rift that would never have been mended between Avon and Stringer.
@@cyreekcyreek2329 Avon did not know at this point. Just re watched the whole series in a couple weeks. Stringer confesses way later on when they're at war with Marlo full on war
" i aint have shit to do with it" "... To do with what..?" Brianna knew right there that she had him, she knew he fucked up just by the look she gave him. She knew he was lying through his teeth
Yeah there were a few things that made me think she could tell. The way she asked "To do with what" and the fact that Stringer was the one who answered. She had to know, she's not a stupid woman.
The greed what are you talking about Brianna was asking questions because she wanted to know, it wasn't greed did you not forget what she told dee when he got knocked Avon will take the years but you have to hold the family down....He wasn't built for the game he wanted what came with it.
Notice Stringer keeping his back to her,Avon facing away: she was an authority figure from their childhood, and it shows. Ironically, Avon was innocent, only finding out after the fact.
It's hard trying to lie to a sibling, especially an older sibling. Older siblings like Brianna were like moms/dads-in-training watching after their younger kin. And a big-sister like Brianna could sniff out bs from miles away.
Gah damn she is sharp . It’s took me a few times of listening to read in between the lines of what is being said with words and the message that’s conveyed
Marlo and his people never have scenes that elevate too this level. The Barksdale empire was more engrossing. Specifically the break down and Stringers death This scene is class.. I love how uncomfortable Bell is. He constantly wants everyone out of the way and talks at the wrong time. Just like with Brother in the hospital. Hes cracking up and the grim reaper is coming.
@@dr2599 Morning. I am not discussing the character/plot deviation to the Marlo empire. The ruthless new breed. I understand that as a narrative point. My point is the seasoned acting of the Barksdale empire was unmatched. A scene like this one is simply phenomenal acting. Marlo and his people were not on this level of acting. Brianna was insanely good in this show. As was Avon and Stringer. Simply put, they were superior actors. Peace
@@ben86jones82 You don’t get this type of scene with Marlo’s crew because they never talked talked things out like Avon’s people. At the slightest hint of contention, someone was gonna die.
Marlo was a Wal-Mart drug empire. He sold the product, seized the connect, got rid of his enemy Prop Joe but ultimately only had the corners and Omar to worry about. Everyone was loyal to Marlo, his second was a support instead of an overthinking wiseguy and Marlo ran everything tight. There was no family dynamic like the Barksdale, in fact if Marlo didn't want to be famous he could just be like the Greeks and run things from behind and make money.
@@Wungus_Bill The Barksdales were human people doing inhuman thing for the game. Marlo crew are monster created by there action and playing their game and breaking it at the same time.
I remember first seeing the first second of this scene thinking of that awkward silence between Avon and Stringer, knowing how rocky their relationship was at this point. Then how it multiplies when you see Brianna looking at Avon with eyes that can slice through frozen beef. It was so intense even before words were spoken.
This is why when McNulty tells Brianna off in that office, making her face the fact that she could have saved Dee from his fate, is one of my favorite scenes of the show. While she looked for others to blame, she ultimately could have stopped all of this from happening if she could have separated herself from her materialism and her greed. Her cars, apartment, and possessions meant more to her than her own son, and it cost her.
True story. She really seemed to believe that Avon's name would carry him forever as well. Like there was no way Dee could've been touched in prison. And we see otherwise.
I think she knew it was Stringer right when Avon said that noticed she didn't even look at Stringer when she left the room as an acknowledgement of Stringer's involvement in D'Angelo's death
watching this scene, there’s no way you can tell me that Brianna didn’t purposefully, subliminally accuse Avon of killing D, in order to get his natural reaction & see if there was anything. Other than her managing the assets, we never saw her display her intelligence. But this in my opinion was her using her intellect psychologically. Look at how she immediately looks down when Avon gets mad & then immediately looks up as soon as Avon says he had nothing to do with it.
Wire is the only show that gets better and better even after you've seen in multiple times. I can't think of any show that's ever done that, for me at least
I think this scene is what led Avon to ultimately sell Stringer out. He might've been willing to go to the wall for him if he hadn't killed his nephew and poisoned his relationship with his sister.
Man I would love to see a follow up to this whole scenario. Spoiler ahead, don't scroll down if you haven't seen it, youve been warned: I would love to see Avon speaking with Brianna post Stringers death. Them sitting in USP Jessup and having to tell her the truth. How Stringer killed D without his knowledge. He can also somewhat save face with his sister by saying he had Stringer killed because of that. Now that would be a half truth since we know he had to give up Stringer to Brother because of business and maintaining his rep. But at least it allows him to re-build a connection with his sister. Would have been interesting to see that whole scenerio play out
McNulty's understanding of human behaviour enables him to predict how other people will react when he creates a situation like this one. He knew D'Angelo's murder would force Avon to come out of denial, then take action against Stringer. The office scene where McNulty told D'Angelo's mother he knew she did not care about her own son was the pinnacle moment in this drama. String & Avon together were a force of nature, pitted against one other meant the end for both. What a perfect casting choice for the McNulty character, all these characters...
Avon White Shirt = Innocent (didn't do it) String Black Shirt = Guilty (ordered the hit) Brianna Red Cardigan = Victim (lost her son) Brianna Black Shirt = Guilty (made D take the years)
Don’t forget about clanging of her jewelry after talking to McNulty. It subtly showed where her values were; and what she chose to take priority in her life.
Notice how Stringer couldn't help himself interjecting after the second "To do with what? went unanswered. He had to be thinking Avon was close to cracking at that point and possibly giving him up right then and there.
One thing I love about this scene is how Avon and Stringer, a powerful duo, ruthless gangsters are so insecure and tiny comparing to Brianna, who wants to know what happened to her only child. She's Avon's older sister, but in this scene she's like a strict mother to two boys who broke a vase or a window and she's trying to find out who did it. xD Impeccable scene and acting by all three of them.
Avon basically told her the truth without telling her he said he aint have nothing to do with it basically saying somebody did murder d but he wasnt involved that's why she said to do with what an stringer looked up
The opening shot at 0:00 is so beautiful man. It's like an oil painting. Avon's contemplative and guilt-ridden head basked in the sun's glow, while Stringer's on his full black outfit, is on display on the otherside of the frame; Sitting slanted, slightly on edge, but nonetheless knows what is about to come. Them being on a funeral home about to speak on a dead family member. Then cut to Brianna's piercing stare, as if a knife to Avon's throat. Sheesh this show is nuts
What’s crazy is that Avon chooses loyalty to Stringer over his sister and in the end it’s Stringer who betrays him…..Stringer showed his true colors at that cookout when he was pulling up on D’Angelo baby mama. This is why the Italians prevented that kind of behavior.
This scene right here alone was slowly the downfall of the Barksdale organization. The way Avon couldn’t give his own sister direct eye contact was very telling .to Stringer finishing Avons sentences out of nervousness and Brenna knowing something ain’t adding up.
I think String and Avon would have weathered this. This was the final inquiry about D, the case wasn't even open. I would say when Stringer orchestrated a hit on Bro Muzone was the downfall. His intelligence was feeding his ego into thinking he could change the drug empire into IBM. String thought he was more business savvy than Avon when he was in jail but he ignored the rule of the jungle. String made one to many decisions behind Avon's back but D was a neccessary evil act which Avon understood.
deangelo was always built for the game, just had too much of a good heart for it, i liked how avon found out the truth cuz it proved him wrong about his nephew, he wasn’t weak at all he was a soldier who stood for what he believed and never gave in which sadly caused his death, plus mfs forget he literally killed someone😂
Holy shit so when Avon tells Marlo to give his sister the 100k for the russian meeting on the prison he did it because of guilt right? daaamn , yeah I havent watch the series , just going by the clips on youtube XD
@Crazyknight, well yes and no. The 100k was symbolic for several reasons. In the first season, Prop Joe schemed 100k in a basketball game from Avon. Later on, Prop Joe got close to String when Avon and the best of his muscle had gotten locked up (Bird, Wee-Bay, Savino) or taken out (Stinkem), and they had lost their connect. Avon was very reluctant because of how shady Prop Joe was but because of Stringer's sneaky ways, they would have to go to Prop Joe for product (exactly what Prop Joe wanted). All of this lead to the Barksdales losing full control of all of their towers and eventually the corners that they tried to take away from Marlo. All of the previous became very evident to Avon in the scene from Season 3 when Mouzone visited with him at the Barbershop and Avon shakes his head and whispers to himself in disgust, "Prop Joe package." So Avon knew that with Marlo having a line to the connect and cutting everyone else off, he could help set it up and it would be a way to get back at Prop Joe and how he said it in Season 5, "the rest of those East Side B____s." That's just the way he felt about em. ...and yes, he and Brianna's relationship was forever strained after what happened with D, yet he probably continued to do what he could for her more than ever.
It's well known as a fact that every second who start talking in presence of the number one and make decisions will end up going for the throne ,pples never learn whether in movies or real lives.
Parents should know shish like this comes with the territory. It’s pure evil and delusional to turn your children out to criminal activity that leads to the death and destruction of others and not be touched. Just one example of greed is really evil. Gifts corrupts the heart.
