Thanks for the head to head video. These are quite useful for those considering which less lethal option or just getting into it. Regarding the Glock, S&W and Walther magazines with C02; I would suggest getting a quick piercing mag. It provides the storage and ready to use without losing air until you hit the quick puncture button. Lastly, I wouldn't mind seeing a head to head between the Glock and the Walther. My understanding is the Walther and Glock have the highest fps for .43 cal C02 pistols. Just something to consider.
@AlternateArmsSD
@AlternateArmsSD Год назад
Absolutely, they don’t have a quick pierced cartridge out for the Glock yet but as soon as they do we will get one tested. it’s strange too considering the intricate CO2 loading method. They could’ve very easily made that a quick puncture seal which would’ve been nearly invisible on the grip. perhaps that’s what they’ll do, we shall see :-)

@@AlternateArmsSD John! I LOVE your videos and personality man! I watch your channel religiously! Glad you uploaded this comparo, it sheds light on crucial details that I feel often get glossed over. I personally carry and prefer the Glock 17, as it loads and functions more like a real pistol, w/the co2 in the mag where it should be. Also modern combat sports now has quick pierce mags for pre order for the Glock on their website. Shipping next month I believe. I don't yet have experience w/the byrna, but this vid may change my mind! Love from Indiana!

You know I’ve called you many times regarding this topic. As a transport asset protection officer, deterrence is number one. Second is accuracy. Third is effectiveness. And forth is legality. I don’t use pepper balls at all so I use solid alloy aluminum riot balls. They make them for the Byrna but they are extremely heavy and has an effect on accuracy and functionality of the Byrna. This is a huge disadvantage for me. My S&W T4E, I can use the solid alloy aluminum rounds made in perfect weight for the gun, only 1.9 grams which are less than the standard 3 gram kinetic rounds and hit way harder and they are extremely accurate. Also, I’ve modified my valve spring and according to a Facebook/RU-vid post, this will allow as much as 20% increase on FPS. The poster did the valve spring up grade and chronograph using .8 gram rounds, he got as high as 400 fps. That’s a huge improvement for a simple swap of the valve spring. I’ve done the valve spring swap and all I can say is, “Wow, this is amazing,” I don’t have a chronograph so I can’t say for sure that I’m getting higher fps than stock valve spring, but I can definitely feel that the recoil is definitely not the same as stock. Next is reliability. With the Byrna, you blow a seal, it’s way harder to fix than the T4E’s pistols. I blow a seal, I just swap out the magazine and done. And, just as you mentioned, I keep my gun fully charged and have done so for over two months now. I do change out my CO2 cartridge every week to practice and oil my gun/seals. I’ve noticed no leaks and now I’m experimenting to increase the time to 2 weeks between CO2 cartridge changes. At each duty shift, I do one test shot to make sure that all is functional. Because there are 8 rounds in a magazine and 8 shots is equivalent to one magazine, that’s why I change CO2 cartridges. But, 8 shots don’t equal 8 straight duty days for me. 8 duty days could be 2 weeks for me. Thus, why I’m thinking of straight 2 week change cycles. All in all, I prefer the T4E over my Byrna. It meets the 4 points I mentioned and I can use the projectiles that I prefer. If the value spring swap does add more fps, then my t4e hits as hard as the Byrna. Plus, I have more benefits with the t4e than the Byrna such as stock holders, sightings, and functionality. I hope to own a firearm someday and the t4e is prefect for training and practicing.
@AlternateArmsSD
@AlternateArmsSD Год назад
Absolutely, the good thing about a two week cycle is that you can practice at least once every two weeks. Simply dump the mag or two and practice with the weapon. Reload it, and you’re ready to go :-)

These guns are pretty serious, less lethal “less lethal” read the entire manual and it stated multiple times death is a high possibility spinal injuries and permanent injuries. So pretty safe to say that if you have to rely on it to protect your life it’s a pretty decent option to have. I also like the feeling of the Byrna SD I was really impressed by how it feels in your hands just like a real gun, and if you get it in black it looks exactly like a real deadly handgun. So be aware it is no toy! It’s got a safety switch. Handle it as you would a real gun.

Mounted a low profile laser sight on my Byrna today and it didn't change the profile or weight in any way that would affect my ability to use it accurately. I have the holster that I bought from Byrna with a retention clip because California, and even with the laser sight mounted on the underside of the Byrna it still holsters and draws smoothly. I agree that either of those launchers, or any of the others I've seen you demonstrate are very effective at stopping anyone at range. I'll be completing the Chemical Agent Certification exam by the end of the month and then I finally be able to buy some Pepperball rounds legally here 😋 And Yes if you draw any of these weapons on a Cop, you're gonna get what you deserve no doubt.

in my PPQ ( and I am thinking of getting another one because these are really really nice) I mostly use the RIOT BALLS nylon solids that fly out pretty fast and they are $69 for 500. the aluminum solids are $69 for 100. and when I shoot the nylon balls into a box I fill it with old cloths and a old magazine as backing . then I dig them out and look at them, they always seem good so I reuse them ( but I still keep buying more anyway). they do a good job on targets and soda cans and such. I also have the M&P version ( at one time that was my issue gun, M&P 40,. now we use Glock 19 Gen 5s) maybe Umearex will make a Glock 19 version? I think that would be nice.

Hey Jon! This is a great comparison test video. I had a question about the Byrna 7 cap mags which are available. Do you think they’re good to load live chem rounds? Several comments from the community say that there’s a chance the 7 cap mag can break chem rounds and cause leaks because of overpressure in the magazine, especially when going with 7+1. What are your thoughts on tuning the mags to run better without breaking them?
@AlternateArmsSD
@AlternateArmsSD Год назад

@@AlternateArmsSD Hey Jon! Thank you for your response. I actually just ordered two 7-cap magazines through Byrna's website on their sale which ended just yesterday. I'm looking forward to testing those magazines out myself when they arrive. I noticed that some of the jawbreaker rounds are slightly undersized at .67 or slightly lower, and I could fit 6x of them in a 5-cap mag. It MIGHT work to where I could use 8 in a 7-cap magazine. Of course an undersized round means less joules downrange, but the extra rounds could be handy, even mixed in with pepper rounds. In any case, I have a new "toy" to test out when it arrives in a few days. I'll probably not carry 7+1, but I'll test it out if it works anyways. Thanks again Jon!

That pepper and PAVA mix is no joke! So, I think these 7-cap mags have a spring that’s too strong for pepper balls. I may have to mod them by cutting it down a bit. In the mean time, I am going to continue using the 5+1 kinetic load out for EDC, and carry a 7-cap kinetic mag only with me. At that point you could almost buy a 'real' glock then fill it with rubber bullets/pepper rounds, and you'd still have the lethal ammo options.. ..I guess it would be perfect for some locations where 'real' guns aren't allowed though.. The Glock looks great and I like the fact you can use 'real' accessories. I like the 8shots, its accurate, it did some pretty decent/relative damage to that 'skull' compared to the .67cal.. The glock would be my 1st choice if I lived somewhere where 'real' guns weren't allowed.. at that point spending an extra hundred bucks or so would be worth putting towards any benefits that could potentially save my life). However I would only want to use pepper rounds in my 'less-lethal' weapons, which I would only assume the larger caliber is 'better' in that category considering the volume of the shell..? Has anyone done a .43 pepper ball test vs a .67? (I wont be the 1st!)
@AlternateArmsSD
@AlternateArmsSD Год назад
That test is coming soon. I’m planning on an ammo testing video trying most of the rounds on the market. As far as the pepperballs, the volume isn’t all that important. It takes a very small amount to stop a human or animal. The rate of fire more than makes up for the volume difference in my experience. The price should level a bit once the “new” factor has cooled down a bit and get this in the 200-250 range. We shall see :)
