Wanna run a bigger tire or a drag radial on a 6 gen Camaro? You're going to need to relocate the driver side rear wheel well wire harness. Here is how to do it STEP by STEP!
It is part of the main body harness for the vehicle, and if replacing it, the entire thing would have to be replaced. It’s a lot of work. A repair, or splicing wires in if yours is damaged, would be the better option in my opinion. But if looking for a quote, tell them that the main body harness needs to be replaced.
not a zl1 but this is my second ss and im wondering why im running into so many issues on my 2019 that my 2011 with supposedly worse build quality never had. thanks for showing me this because the dealer said it was because i ran it too hard.
Mike L the tire height (35 vs 30) is why it rubs the front. So a 325/30 may be ok as far as the wire rubbing issue. You might have an issue clearing the suspension with a 325 but don’t take my word 100%. I do know people running a 315 in the rear so you’ll need to test fit a 325 and keep us posted. 😁
Sgt Rick, so we discovered after running it. That the 9% increase in tire circumference freaked out the TC and ABS computer. Also, the final drive ratio kept the car at the same ET and 60’. The computers are too smart. So, I am going to a 17” drag pack and keeping the tire the same O.D. at 27.x so the computer works as intended by GM. See my latest video on Drag Radial, is it worth it? to see the testing.
It did a few times. One of those times it put the car into limp mode and I had to turn off TC to get the car to go again. Occasionally, it will flash the light for a second (even on my 17’s) but go out and never hit limp mode. You are correct in your thinking as the computer only allows for a 5% difference. 👍🏻
Ok so I got 315/35/20 today on my ss in rear and 285/35/20 in front I know I have a rub issue and tc issue in rear do you think I’ll have a abs issue because I’m running 35s all around ?
The traction control and ABS systems use sensors to detect wheel speed differences between the static rolling front wheels and the powered rear wheels. This variance is 5% maximum before engaging traction control. For example, occasionally with a stock 285/30/20 front and my MT Street SS tires, a 305/40/20, the car would engage and flash the TC light and soon after go into a severe limp mode forcing me to pull over as I had no power. Once still, it reset and I could drive again. Now, since both your tires are 20” and a 35 sidewall, the rolling circumference (not effected by width) are the same or very close together. You should be good to go with no errors in TC or ABS.
I went to a 17 drag pack after that. The problem was not every time. Mostly when turning as the outside tire spins faster making the car think it is in a small slide. I have had no issues with the 17 drag pack as the rolling tire circumference is within the 5% tolerance. Again, with both your tires a 35 sidewall, you should not have any issue. Send it! And no bother at all man, thanks for watching the vids!
Tim Dually I tried a set of rock guards but they didn’t fit as the 19 zl1 wheel well has different mounting locations than the other 6 gen Camaros. Had to send them back.
It’s part of the body control module. Lots of different wires run through that harness. It controls a variety of functions. The TLDR is: you don’t want to rub through these wires or you could have a multitude of problems!
So i am in the process of repairing that harness. I got part of one from a 2018. I have a 2019. The problem is the wires that go from under the floor in the front of the rear tire and travels across the top and goes into the trunk area. Also it whys to the bottom rear. There are 2 black and white wires but on the one i got has a black and white wire and a black and yellow wire plus others but these are the two im confused about. Anyway. Does anyone know where to get a diagram so i know what the wires serve?? Thank you
