Celestion Vintage 30 Vs M creamback are two great speakers for a shootout, also great for mixing together. The Vintage 30 and M craemback (G12M-65 creamback) are well suited tonally mixing an industry standard with the warmth and boldness of the M creamback. In this video we set both speakers directly against each other and then mix them through several style, allowing you to hear what each speaker is doing under similar circumstances.
To do this we recorded both speakers in an identical 1x12 setup, same mics, mic placements, amps and settings by re-amping the same scenario through several different styles.
We love to hear your thoughts on anything speaker related, if you've used this pair before or the individual speakers, or if you have any suggestions please get in touch.

This is fantastic. A lot of times in speaker shootout videos like this, I can hear a difference but I'm not always sure exactly what it is - the inclusion of the EQ image is very helpful.

This illustrates prefectly that mixing speakers is always better. I've got the creamback in an amp and in isolation I find it can be quite a dark speaker but I use it alongside an amp with an Alnico Blue and both amps together sound awesome.

Oh great, I love mixing in a Blue. Which creamback do you mix it with?
@gearoftones8585
@gearoftones8585 3 года назад
@@ZillaCabs the G12M 65. It's quite a smooth, relatively dark speaker by itself but mixed with a Blue it really compliments it with the blue being more raspy on the top end. I love mixing speakers and using multi amp rigs. It's hard to go back to using a single amp once you've gone down that route. I always play with at least a wet/dry rig but when I can I go wet/dry/wet. There's nothing like it.

The creamback 66 Pairs really well with brighter speakers. I have it in a DSl 40CR and pair with several different 1 by 12s and it sounds especially great paired with H speakers in closed back 1 by 12. It sounds fantastic with the Heritage G12H30 75Hz and the G12H30 anniversary . I especially love the creamback M/Heritage G12H30 75hz m it's perfect. Not too bright and not too dark. Full and balanced tone with just the right amount of warmth and bite. The Creamback M/V30 combo has been my favorite for a few years now but the M65/ Heritage 75hz has been appealing to me more and more lately

Really good video as always. I actually have a closed back 2x12 with the Creambacks and it might seem like they don't have enough presence but with a bright amp like a JCM 800 style circuit the balance is perfect. Articulation but without icepicking into your ear.

@adamwatson6916
@adamwatson6916 3 года назад
The creamback m works fantastic with modern Marshall's. They are the perfect speaker to tame brightness and greatly reduce the overly fizzy quality modern Marshall's can often have. The creamback m should be the stock speaker in a dsl 40 but where it's a more expensive celestion I know that will not happen as they want to keep the DSL in a certain price point bracket but the creamback just sounds like it was made for DSl . I tried a creamback m in a dark amp and it was very dull and lifeless but in the DSl its magic . I usually use a 1 by 12 along with the DSl . I have a v30 cab a g12h30 55hz cab and a g12h30 75 hz cab and all of those speakers take care of the presence . Something I have noticed when using the DSL without an extension since installing the creamback is that running just the creamback sounds alot better with my guitars that have slighty over wound pickups . It really does not sound that good with my low wind paf type pickups . With the underwound pickups the amp sounds really dull which i had not noticed with the stock b type but with my overwound oaf types the amp sounds incredible on it's own and much better than before. With the underwound pickups the top end sounds great but the low frequencies sound dull and lifeless and the low mids are not there but with slightly hotter pickups the low end and low mids sounds killer and are very present and articulate. I think the creamback needs to be pushed a little harder with hotter pickups to sound great in the lower registers. With the lower output or underwound pickups even with the amp cranked the low end was dull and lifeless with a hole in the low mids which goes away with pickups that are just a bit hotter.

On its own, I strongly prefer the creamback, can't stand the V30's upper mid peak unless it's almost clean. But mixed together, they sound fantastic, the V30 seems to enhance the overall clarity and ability to cut through the mix, without being unpleasant.

Just put a creamback m65 in my DSL 40cr and it sounds perfect for that amp . Just amazing really . I really liked the stock v type but I wanted something softer and warmer to push the amp more toward the vintage end and the creamback did the trick. Its almost as if the creamback m was meant for the dsl . Prior to the speaker swap I did not care for the red channel with the v type so I always used the red channel with extension cabinets which always sounded better to me but now with the creamback m the red channel sounds amazing without using a cab .The red channel is 75 percent less fizzy and sounds much more woody and open and no longer mushy but yet still somehow softer . The top end is smoother and low mids are nice and woody . Its hard to explain but its softer sounding but less mushy I was considering letting go of the amp for awhile but now with the creamback it's going nowhere. The biggest issue I had before was the classic gain channel even with the crunch button engaged would not quite saturate to the level I liked but the green overdrive channel was too bright fizzy and had almost too much drive now I love every channel. The classic gain channel now sounds more like a proper clean channel and the green overdrive is perfect for overdriven tones and the red channel is far more useable then before but the best part of it is when I combine the combo with my orange 1 by 12 with a v30 . The vintage 30 and creamback 65 has always been my favorite combo but now I love it even more . Lots of low mid grunt . Low Mids are my favorite frequency and the v30 creamback 65 combo have loads of low mid grunt growl and roar and the upper mids of the v30 keep it clear and mud free . I know the v30 did not exist in the 70s but when I use my dsl40 with creamback 65 and v30 orange cab it's a dead on early 70s live rock tone . It's quite similar to jimmy page's tone in March of 1970 on the vancouver soundboard tape called the mudslide bootleg or pure blues bootleg. That combo also does the zeppelin custard pie tone quite well . These are the tones that have been in my head forever and its amazing to finally be getting them or at least close enough to keep me happy and playing.

Hey thanks for making this video! I've seen a lot of V30/H75 combinations, but not V30/M65. They sound great mixed! I noticed this is the combo that Bogner uses for their Helios 2x12. Do you notice much of a volume difference using the two? The M65 has a slightly lower input sensitivity (97db), but reading up online it looks like most people don't notice much of a difference.

Together the Creamback fills in all the mids scooped out of the V30. Masks that annoying honk. Great frequency balance, especially when you can dial each speaker separately. My little scheme is to get the $500 dollar HB G212plus Creamback loaded cab first.(got that). Then get the bare bones China one with the V30's for $385. That puts the total for both 212's at$885.(the cost of a single unit from say, Sweetwater). If you bought 2 of the premium cab units from Thomann, with mix and match speakers. It'd be just over a $stack$. So by doing it this way, I get the same 4 speaker cones(2×creambacks, 2×V30's) for $117 savings. I'll just have 1 Indonesian cab, and 1 Chinese unit. Gonna switch 2 of the speakers around, to create my own pair of Creamback/V30 loaded 212's.

Interesting to me that some are saying the top end fizz of the V30 makes it more suitable for clean sounds. Nah. Not true. TBH, I never could abide the clean sounds of my 1987 2554 Silver Jubilee with the Marshall branded V30 in it. Combined with the smaller cab, that speaker made the amp sound boxy, mid forward and a bit boring on clean settings. I installed a Creamback M65 in that amp and it finally game some dimension and bloom to the clean sound. It also made the dirty sounds bigger with just the right amount of bite. All you have to do is EQ the amp accordingly, particularly with the presence control, and the Creamback delivers over the stock V30. Crazy thing to say about a vintage Jube, but I recommend trying it yourself. Just keep the Marshall branded V30 stocker for the purists, should you ever need to sell the amp. : )

The marhsall origin 50 sounds fantastic with the creamback 65. I seen a video doing a comparison between the stock origin and the creamback modded origin and the creamback version was so much nicer and more vintage correct sounding. With the stock midnight 60 or whatever its called it sounded more modern and almost had a DSL like quality to the tone which is not at all a bad thing and the stock amp does sound great but from a pure vintage standpoint the creamanclk was the better representation of a 60s/70s Marshall sound .

@@ZillaCabs we just found it allowed the tone to really breath. I tend to like to let the bass cover the bottom end of tones, and our bassist uses one of your 4x10+1x15 cabs so there is plenty of low end in our overall mix so I wasn't too fussed about losing some of the bottom end, but it just cleaned up everything.

When you are listening to speakers do you not know what you like when you hear it without hearing the exact same guitar part? As you will be playing something different. It surprises me when people say they need to hear the exact same piece ofmusic to know what they like or be able to hear what a speaker is doing.
