This video demonstrates the adjustment of an unloader valve without a pressure gauge. It is highly recommended to use a pressure gauge to achieve accurate adjustments.
We will cover the basic replacement of an unloader valve in a gas pressure washer. This procedure can be used on many different brands using the same style of pump. Replacing the unloader valve can solve problems such as weak pressure or a stiff recoil from pressure build-up.

I'm working on a Ryobi 3000psi with new carburetor and new pump. I cleaned the unloader valve and haven't started it again, but what it was doing was surging when it was idle. Runs great when you are pressure washing but as soon as you let off the trigger it starts surging. Carburetor has been cleaned twice and is brand new. Any suggestions??

I would double check your gaskets and make sure the carburetor is tight. Sounds like the idle circuit is running lean. May also be a factory defect from the carburetor not tuned correctly.

If you have adequate pressure, but the engine stalls after you let off the trigger - does that mean the pressure is set too high? I had to put a new pump on mine last year, and have just used it as it came from the factory. Thanks...

Usually the engine would stall under load when the trigger is pressed if the pressure is set too high. It is possible that your idle speed is set too low causing the engine to stall when not under a load.

I have a ryobi 2800 psi with a honda engine Engine surges with low water pressure Cleaned carb Removed unloader valve and it was wet Where can I buy a new one? Hopefully this is my problem Thanks

I got mine on eBay. I would lookup the parts diagram for your model and look for the part number. You may also need to clean the pilot jet on your carburetor. This can cause the engine to surge. Good luck on the repair!

@@benchnwrench I'm not a mechanic but I ordered an unloader valve from amazon. I also cleaned the carb but I didn't take the jets out. Fingers crossed that I didn't make things worse. All I want to do is wash my house down.

@@leishawalker5916 Usually the main jet is what gets gummed up the worst. I just repaired 2 and had to force the main jet out with a piece of wood and a screwdriver on both. They were really nasty. Cleaned them with carb cleaner and some careful, light scrubbing with a brass-bristled wire brush. I tried an old toothbrush first, but it wasn't doing much.
