There's also the fact that the clones are replicants of a Mandalorian donor. The Mandalorians continue to get used as nothing more than cannon fodder for the goals of the Sith, warriors without a purpose abandoned and eliminated over and over. The Clones are literally mass-manufactured versions of the best warriors in the galaxy made for no other purpose than to fight and die for a war they know little about, the epitome of this cycle.

He touched on the Ahsoka part having to fight against the troopers with the helmet paint symbolizes her, but that wasn't the whole story of this tragic event. See, at this point Ahsoka have already left the Jedi Order, technically making her a civilian. The clones didn't have to follow her order anymore yet chose to follow her to Mandalore anyway to fight and potentially die in a conflict they don't have to partake. They even surprised Ahsoka by showing her the new paint job right before they depart to show how much they trust her. And all of it got destroyed in a mere moment.

The Clones didn't choose anything. Half of the 501st went to Mandalore, under the command of Rex who was promoted to Commander. Anakin Skywalker ordered the soldiers to go with Ahsoka to capture Maul on Mandalore. They did however, choose to salute Ahsoka and treat her with the respect that they give all of their commanding officers even after she was no longer a General in the Republic Army (or a Jedi either)

It's not mentioned in the video but where he is talking about Tup repeating the same phrase i just want to point out, Anakin is a jedi but Tup only goes after the other Jedi. Which just goes to show how far the plot is. The clones won't attack Anakin because Palpatine wants him alive. Good soldiers follow orders is terrifying in clone wars and in bad batch. If you watch "Clone War", remember: you started "from the end". Character you will meet WILL NOT rise to your expectation YET. They are here TO GROW into the SW icon you heard them to be. About the control chips arc in CW season 6: Fives actually told one of his best friends, a clone medic named Kix, about the chips and he investigated himself as well discovering the plot like Fives did, but he was abducted by seperatists right when the war ended. They put him into cryo sleep right before the seperatist ship was shot down. He was found by pirates 50 years later (during the sequels) and is the last clone alive. He discovered it all, but he couldn't do anything to prevent it. All of his friends are (pobably) dead by that point (Anakin, Kenobi, Rex, any other clones) or don't know he survived (Ahsoka), which makes it even more sad.

One thing to notice about those episodes, it also answers a question about Anakin and Order 66, but more indirectly. There's a scene shown in the video where the clone goes into a trance and then rushes at one of the other Jedi in a rage. But notice how Anakin is standing right next to her. If you watch closely, the clone even shoves Anakin aside to get to her. He's in Order 66 mode, but he completely ignores Anakin like he's not even there, which tells us that not only are the Clones forced by the chips to execute the order, but they were also programmed to specifically exempt Anakin as a target when the order goes off. Even from the moment Palpatine comissioned the army, Anakin's fate as Vader was sealed.
@RosebudMartin
@RosebudMartin 3 месяца назад
There is a slight correction that needs to be said (if it hasn't yet, I'm only half way through the video), some clones welcomed order 66, typically the ones who's jedi generals were either less friendly to the clone army, or the ones who didn't understand the clones can't do what they can do. They would resent their generals for allowing large casualties either by ignorance or intent.

From my understanding of the old canon a lot of clones did not require much of a push to kill the Jedi. It was only a select group of Jedi that were really loved and adored by the clones. Part of it is because the Jedi were not really military people. So they would give the clones difficult missions to spare life, but would have been easier to accomplish if they had been just a bit more cut throat. Thus saving the lives of many clones. The Jedi got lots of clones killed in stupid ways which built up some resentment, especially in cases where the Jedi were not well liked. Look into the history of the battle of Geonosis and how the clones were deployed. They had the the clone commandos line up on an open plain..... you know commandos, the special ops guys. The ones you want to land behind enemy lines and stuff.
@Azorees-oj5zr
@Azorees-oj5zr 3 месяца назад
Yeah, the Clones were raised to see the Jedi as military geniuses and then the reality hit them, there’s also the fact that many Jedi treated them like droids, like they weren’t people. Which did not endear the Jedi to them, there were two Jedi from the republic commando books that were adored by every Clone that served with them and that’s because both prioritised the general safety of the Clones under them, these two Jedi being willing to just rain artillery on civilians in order to preserve the lives of their troops. Both took to wearing actual armour and one because they were a field commander actually used a rifle as her main weapon instead of her lightsaber.

The genius of the first half of the Order 66 episode in Clone Wars is that it plays with you and the fact that it's made sure you know where you're at in Revenge of the Sith, so you know it's getting close. But it also utilizes the spontaneity of Order 66 because you also know it can happen literally at any time. At no point during the episode does it ever feel safe to take a quick breath to relax. There are no warning signs until it's too late, and so you have no way to prepare yourself for it. You can only dread the anticipation.

As others have said, the old Canon didn't have the Clones romanticize the Jedi as much as they do in The Clone Wars show. In old canon (and somewhat still this way) the Jedi are an entirely separate entity from the Republic. The clones were born and bred specifically to serve the Republic, not the Jedi, the Jedi just led the clones into battle. There is an entire list of orders that the clones were trained from birth to follow, one obviously being order 66. You should watch the 501st journal cutscenes from the original Battlefront II. Rather basic nowadays, but it goes into a bit of detail about how the clones all knew that one day they may be ordered to kill their commanders, and when the order came, the clones didn't want to do it, but they did anyway, because they were loyal to the Republic and the Jedi were deemed a threat to it. "What I remember about the rise of the Empire is... is how quiet it was. During the waning hours of the Clone Wars, the 501st Legion was discreetly transferred back to Coruscant. It was a silent trip. We all knew what was about to happen, what we were about to do. Did we have any doubts? Any private, traitorous thoughts? Perhaps, but no one said a word. Not on the flight to Coruscant, not when Order 66 came down, and not when we marched into the Jedi Temple. Not a word. With the fall of Coruscant and the elimination of the traitorous Jedi, Palpatine's rise to power was complete. In recognition of our service and loyalty to the Emperor, the 501st were placed under the direct command of Lord Vader. Armed with deadly new weapons, blazing new ships, and shiny new armor, our presence let the galaxy know that the days of the Old Republic were well and truly over. We were establishing a new era, an era of order and peace." Both depictions have their merits, the video you watched explained the chip side well, but when that season of the Clone Wars show aired, a lot of people thought the inhibitor chips were a plot cop-out because the show made people like the clones too much so they had to take their free will away in order make order 66 happen. Anyway, just thought I'd bring that up. Surprised the video didn't at least mention old canon and compare it to the chip plot.

The thing is, the Clones were indoctrinated to be loyal _to the Republic._ Without the inhibitor chips plot device, the clone trooper should have opposed the rise of Palpatine destroying the Republic's institutions to put the Empire in its place.

To be fair once the clone wars TV series came out it made the order 66 scene just all that much more heartbreaking because it made you attached to not only every single one of those characters in the movies but ones that weren't even in the movies. And I would highly recommend checking the clone wars TV series out because it did everything the movies didn't, clones get massively fleshed out, the jedi do and so does their relationship. And also the Star Wars Bounty Hunter game is actually the origin story for why Jango who you play as was chosen as the template for the clone army. And it kinda fills in some stuff also it's a great game if you haven't played it.

so originally the clones did it because they were loyal to a fault to the republic through sheer indoctrination from their birth, so when the order came most did it without question they also knew about order 66 as they memorized it and a couple other hundred orders that lead to a lot of stories i like where their were clones who didn't commit order 66 mainly ARC troopers and clone commandos who had more independence and individuality than the rest of the clones their are 3 stories that i can think of right now 1 is a clone was fighting in space and was knocked unconscious in his fighter through the battle and missed the order, waking up on a merchants ship he eventually found out through the merchant about order 66 was activated and dismissed it as a separatist plot not believing that the jedi betrayed the republic through a no named merchant, he eventually found out that it was true when he found a large group of younglings and padawans hiding on the ship, he later led off a group of clones that were going to inspect it claiming that he already searched the ship when he woke up and found no jedi another is a group of ARC troopers finding a few jedi masters and a large younglings on one of the few schools on another planet than the order where they defend them from other clones allowing them to escape before being executed by Vader and the 501st and the last is of a squad of commandos helping a master escape into hiding from a few other commando squads with only 1 surviving who went with the jedi and later marrying her also 1 more thing, ki-adi-mundi (jedi with a cone head) was despised by the galactic marines regiment that he commanded and were happy to execute them before, don't know if its still like that now though

The later seasons of _Clone Wars_ are great. And its sequel, _The Bad Batch,_ is brilliant: It focusses on Clone Force 99, a special group of "defective clones" with mutations (which were deemed useful enough so that they were allowed to live) during and right after the fall of the Republic,. On their experience of the destruction of Kamino's clone factories (their "home") and the Kaminoans in general on order of Palpatine. On the Bad Batch on the run, trying to survive as mercenaries and to find a new home far away from the Empire hunting them. On the increasing number of "rebel" clones (whose chip was damaged in combat or removed by other already free clones) like Rex and the Bad Batch who discover the Empire is running experiments on imprisoned clones to turn the survivors into perfectly brainwashed SpecOps hitmen. And on the clone troopers' fate in general after they have been deemed "expendable" and start getting replaced by enlisted Stormtroopers. And the current season of _The Bad Batch_ also slyly forebodingly ties to shows like _The Mandalorian_ (which is set after the fall of the Empire and during the rise of he First Order) and the movie sequels, what with the Bad Batch characters uncovering genetic experiments by Empire scientists on order of Palpatine to transfer an "M factor" to another type of clone... Fact is, the clones were trained to be loyal _to the Republic!_ Without the "inhibitor chips" (which technically were the opposite) who forced clones to follow orders they weren't even aware of, the clones should have opposed Chancellor Palpatine's rise when Palpatine started destroying the Republic's institutions and putting the Empire in place.

I've seen a lot of people over the years who absolutely hate what Lucas, Filoni, and Favreau (and eventually just Filoni and Favreau) have done to flesh out and characterize the clone troopers from 2008 onwards, but personally? I think that some kind of sleeper agent activation was necessary because even if some like Bacara and Faie would gladly shoot their commanders in the back even with no chip and no order, you really can't expect every single trooper in a galaxy spanning army to just turn on their comrades in a second and move on without any remorse afterward. Plus with the theme of the clone troopers themselves being loyalty and the prequels as a whole being a tragedy, I think it's sadly fitting to see them have their loyalty to the republic betrayed just like the jedi's after everything they've done for it. And as for what's happening now in canon with Palpatine trying to replace them all as quickly as possible with recruits for the storm trooper program? Well, that's just in character for him. In both canon and the EU, throwing away an old toy for something shiny and new is exactly what he did with two of his three apprentices, and what he was trying to do with his third when he died. The EU clone troopers being unstoppable badasses who have no fear and are unconcerned with anything other than being useful to their emperor in a grim and dark galaxy where there is only war is cool and all, but do we really need that when we've already got the space marines?

Grogu is the same age as Anakin Skywalker. During Order 66 they are both 22 years old. At the start of The Mandalorian Grogu is 50 and Anakin has been dead for 5 years.

for as badass as the Mandolorians are: Emperor V used them originally, Reven broken them spiritually, the jedi massacred them out of fear, and Emperor Palps broke them near completely

baby yoda (grogu) is the same species as Yoda. they can apparently live seemingly hundreds of years and only get stronger with the force over time. they also apparently have much longer periods in each stage of life, as Grogu is 50 years old but is still just barely beyond being a toddler. Yoda lived to 900 years of age, just so you have some sense of scale

Grogu is about 50 "standard years" old. remember, he's the same species as Yoda, and Yoda was at least 900 years old when he died.

14:00 That's why even with the massive humanisation Clones got in Clone Wars and the connections to Jedi that were shown many fans still disliked the chips and felt the original portrayal of Clones just being that loyal and well trained to follow any proper order was believable. I myself often wanted to see the older Clone Wars Multimedia Project and the newer series to coexist in the same universe so I was also one of the people who preferred indoctrination from birth/intense training over mind control chips and thought this could still coexist with the Clones being individuals who get close with the Jedi over the time of the war.

Yoda's species basically ages ten times slower than a human. Yoda lived to be almost 900 years old. While Grogu is 50 by the time he meets Luke in the mandalorian era. So he would basically be a five year old by that point

Wait - we do know who saved Grogu (who is supposed to be 50 years old at the time Din Djarin picks him up) from the Jedi Temple: Jedi Master Kelleran Beq (played by Ahmed Best).

Having grown up watching Clone Wars from it’s first episode to the final season that concluded a few years (geez, I actually feels so surreal that they actually completes it) I is an amazing series for sure. Just be on the look out for chronological lists, it helps keeps the series from getting too confusing early on.

In all fairness, there’s a repeating bit of misinformation in this video as to why Clone Wars didn’t continue the way we wanted to after Season 5 as half of the reason for its cancellation was Cartoon Network being a stickler with the show (Disney actually wasn’t against letting the show continue but Cartoon Network demanded too much money from Disney to make it happen so the show cancelled). The only reason why it took so long for Clone Wars Season 7 was because Disney FINALLY had full control of the show from Cartoon Network. Literally, the moment they had it all, they went straight to Dave Filoni to see how much of Clone Wars he wanted to go back to. Dave himself was the one who decided on one final season because he was working on Mandalorian, Bad Batch, and Ahsoka.
