On this TGS, Billy the Kid gives his take on a small model fs-3 cobratec after extensive use since Semptember 2019. I forgot to mention in the video that I did leave it outside at a friends for a week in the humidity and rain and seen zero stain or corrosion so it's worth mentioning. As always thanks for dropping by!

Ive had one for 2 years now and use it everyday in my trade. I like it a lot, just bought another one for myself and one for my friend. Cut a lot of fiberglass duct board, cardboard, tape, even foil tape. Ive never sharpened it but it works well enough for what I use it for. I like the way the paint wears and also have broken the tip off using it as a screwdriver. Cosmetic issues dont really bother me

I bought mine for $70 and it's worth it. I camp, hike, fish, etc.. and use them hard. I usually use fixed blades for long term outdoor activities. I wanted an OTF for ease of use and one-handed operation for daily use and abuse. This fit the bill for the price, for $100 it's still reasonable for my use.

It all depends on what your using it for. IMO otf knives are not to beat around and use as screwdrivers. I can buy a regular knife for that. If someone is trailing a lady or college girl and she turns around and out snaps the blade whoever it is will think twice about his intentions. Quick access to the blade is key in this situation. I bet the blade doesn’t chip on someone’s rib. I bought one for my daughter for 80 bucks. Money well spent. If your going to use your knife for a screwdriver just carry a butter knife. Works much better.

Im in full agreement a knife is a tool and just like any tool has different jobs. I wouldnt use my defense knife as a field craft knife lol. I purchased this knife with one intention. To defend myself if i get into a situation where its needed. And so my wife can carry it if she needs too.

FUCK YEAH!!!! My husband just bought me a CTK-1 small for no reason. He saw it, knows I hate the color it came in, but.....damn. This is a great knife. D2 OTF! I'm cool with it. At least I know it's not a screw driver. And if all you used it on was cardboard and tape? You are full of shit.......D2 isn't going to dull that fast, or have chips in the blade, or roll the edge......for cardboard and tape. So, you stated that you used it for a screwdriver. What else did you really do with that blade? I know what I do to knives. I know what they look like when I am done. It's NOT cardboard and tape that eats a D2 steel blade. Maybe cutting or stripping wire, but not cardboard......? Not trying to be a jerk, by any means, just a little confused.
@wankstercnm250
@wankstercnm250 2 года назад
@JACK GAYLE i deffinatly agree a fixed blade is less likely to break and alot easier to maneuver in a stressfull situation. But harder to conceal. Take the pros with the cons. Personally i like a side folder quick release knife better then i like an otf because its easier to get out if the blade jams. But either or i still dig the otf look. Its got that old school street gang look to it. And honestly if someone pulled one on me i wouldnt crap my pants but id probably second guess the situation im in for a minute lol.

What about an actual screwdriver for screws? Or Victorinox Tinker. And for ACTUAL self defense Spyderco Yojimbo 2 is the intended tool, not flashy movie toys like this. I see this as a fun novelty to play with while watching a movie.

@@jessicadavenport2808 d2 isn't anything special. And the key to any is heat treatment. D2 will definitely dull out on cardboard, especially with a poor heat treat.

I've serviced a couple of this brand and different designs for clients, in which there had been issues with chipping due to hard use. I've reprofiled the blade geometry to a 30• profile and so far have had much better edge retention and less blade damage from them being used as "pry bars"... use your knife for it's intended purpose and avoid these issues! *only the first one's free*.

I prefer d2 steel in all of my knives. I understand that it isn't the hardest steel and it isn't a super steel but the flip side of that is that it sharpens very nicely. Its easy for me to put a razor edge on my d2 knives and I don't find that is looses its edge easily. I am way harder on my knives than just cutting cardboard and tape, as well. Routinely I scrape adhesives and debris with ease. For 100 bucks I think that this is a pretty good otf knife. Still my favorite value knife is the OKCRAT model 1. For 35 bucks the knife is a mega value. I can't destroy it and it's still tight like a tiger after two years of continuous use... bordering abuse. Thanks for the video

S90v is not as hard of a steel as d2 (what these knives are made of) its actually 3 points softer. It is a finer grain and can take a little sharper edge and has better corrosion resistance, but definitely not harder. But what you said about for you and what you cut with it you can get more value from another brand, that is 100% true. Different steel has different properties. For example s90v can make a bad ass diving knife but d2 would be lacking. And even cutting everyday stuff some may find d2 to be the better steel some may actually prefer 1084 hc it just depends on the use I recon. But really good review you covered it really well and informative!

I was looking for a good review on it, seeing as to how I just got the dagger blade on the large FS-3, but as soon as you said you broke the tip using it as a screwdriver, I feel you lost a bit of credibility. I am a BIG believer in using the right tool for the right job, and this was ignorant. If you need a screw driver, be smart enough to get one, or even a multitool that you can carry every day. The blade is D2 steel which is a really good steel, especially when you use it for what it is meant to be used for. You were not specific at all when you said you could get better quality for $100. The whole review felt very biased. Myself, I prefer Microtech when it comes to an OTF knife, but for the money, this knife feels very solid.

I know for a fact they don't back red flag laws just because I remember reading all the anti red flag law ads and articles from them unless i missed something in the shadows, I remember an older man getting killed in Virginia when it was first enacted and the NRA plastering the story of his wrongful death all over. We can agree on everything up to 1991. Would you maybe comment a source to something related to this the red flag law or bump stock ban?

Damn dude. You need to carry a multi-tool. I get being hard on tools, but using a blade as a screwdriver just isn't a thing you ever need to do outside of an emergency situation. Thanks for the info though. I'm gonna continue to ignore this tempting but underdeveloped tier of otf autos. Think I'll go for something in the $250 range once I've gotten to the point where I feel like I must finally have one.

I disagree with you. My dad had a large fs3 and that’s a bad bitch. I have a mini mamba for about a month now with a tanto blade as my edc and I’ve loved it. Not sure why you’d put a tip on anything hard in the first place. I doubt you’ll regret getting a cobra tec. Check out their CNC lines.

Mine is total crap. Worst $100 iv ever spent. From a man who uses his pocket knife daily in the bodyshop or in the woods it is total crap. Plus if it gets below 40 degrees the spring contracts due to the cold and then the blade doesnt deploy till you warm it up. Stupid and usless design. I hope cobratech sees this. They fooled me once but no more. I will bad mouth all OTF knifes. I totally bought into the hype. My fault. Great video bud

The bigger ones are garbage I own a small one and it conceals nicely and hasn’t let me down yet. I even had a situation where I had to break a window and my small one did it with ease. The bigger ones are just too heavy and hard to conceal. Don’t really see a mechanical issue, maybe could of used a better steel for all the knife cops out there.

Step 1 Newbie knife people don't even think about blade steel 👍. Then step 2 you get bitten by the knife bug, and become a knife steel nerd, and crave super steels and obsess over edge retention and HRC. Step 3 You realize super steels really aren't that great, and realize 14c28n, AEB-L, 154cm with a good heat treatment are the way to go🤷. That's what you call full circle 😬🤷
