Reminds me of Prince of Persia Warrior Within, which is really the only other game I can think of that captures the exact same vibe. Just with a more Persian influence (obviously).
I think so too. I would love to cosplay him in this style. Don't you think this style of Dante is similar to the vibe of Dextera (Baroque P.S. 2 version),Abel (Trinity Blood - Thores Shibamoto version) or Gungrave's design? Character designs in games back then were amazing.
@@ArcaniaSkypirateDen9516 I didn't know about these characters, so I searched them and found that Gungrave and Abel were the ones with whom DMC2 Dante has probably the most similar vibes with. Gungrave is probably the one I found to be the closest imo. And indeed, DMC2 Dante also is peak character design. Really interesting
@@plagueis9794 Playing as Vergil isn't special or new.. Have you never played DMC3 special edition also Nelo Angelo from DMC1. DMC 4 special edition gives us Vergil vs Dante.
@@neogamest123logic2 I didn't say that Vergil's gameplay was only at Dmc 5. I mean that Vergil has Dante as final boss opposite to Nero and Dante who have Vergil as final boss. So technically they have different final bossfights Dante at Dmc 4 has never been a final boss (still he is the hardest, yeah). Dmc4 has the same final boss for every character (Sanctus)
I was so lucky to play this game as a kid. It was my first devil may cry game. I didn't game about gameplay back then. I was just having fun. It was my favorite game for a long time, and thanks to this games I was introduced to all the other games in the series.
As a dedicated DMC fan from childhood this game was amazing, yeah maybe it was different to all the other DMC's but to me, not in a bad way, this game was actually really unique with amazing soundtracks
True fans will stick by it. I like all of them. Butthurt hypocrites are banished. Educate yourself by using google. DmC: 2013, 3, 1, Anime, 4, 2 (It is what it is and it ain't gonna change, not for you, not for anybody) ^.^
PervySageJi DmC 2013 is its own separate universe since it contradicts the lore of the original four games at several points. It has never been part of the original canon. There's also no such thing as a "true fan" A fan of DMC is someone who enjoys the games and or other related media. That's it. They can like some entries in the franchise and dislike others. It's totally okay for fans to come right out and say when they think a series they love has taken a misdirection. That's how a series improves. If people who love it don't speak out, then the developers will think everything is fine and the same mistakes will be repeated.
This is getting recommended 24/7 for some reason. Let me plant a flag of greatness 🏳️. DMC2 wasn’t bad, it was an “Arcade design” game… The developers had worked on arcade games before at least. And DMC was still finding its identity, which was finally solidified with DMC3… which again was done by the DMC2 after they figured out where the series should go cause for some weird reason DMC2 came out only a year after 1 and was somewhat developed at the same time. And finally LETS FIGHT AGAINST THE HATERS. The classic hate argument before deriving into personal preference is guns, and yes, DMC2 has by far the strongest guns in the series. HOWEVER if you are an actually talented player you would have realize in the first fight that guns net close to 0 style points, AKA all that critique of gameplay comes from D rank players. Guns in DMC 2 had 2 major functions in fighting regular enemies, 1 THEY STUn, give it 4ish bullets and they would literally juggle via gun damage. And 2, THEY KEEP YOUR STYLE IN PLACE. DMC1 and 2 are somewhat ancient while the other games would give you tools to start combining, or rather I must say that combos are similar in nature from DMC3 onwards despite some nitch tricks exclusive to each game. So the gameplay loop of DMC2 was doing sword attacks, rolling to both avoid damage AND keep style, and finally use gun damage to keep to style alive if it starts fading while you’re rolling to position yourself for another round of optimal sword attacks. In short, the gameplay loop of a good DMC2 player still makes you press buttons constantly like any other DMC. And what’s more is that DMC 2 has the most hidden attacks. From a literal hidden moveset of sword combos to the secret Sin Devil trigger (technically called Majin here). So here is one last point in favor of DMC2… All other games have a novelist that you have to unlock AKA you start horrible and build your way up to being an OP broken character. In DMC2 you start with all your options, with the upgrades being the damage output of your attacks (and gun unlocks too). People just don’t see the beauty of having air hike/double jump from the start!
Thank you for saying this! Yes, this game might be easy. But let me tell you, S ranking this game is not easy at all, even on normal. In the other games, even by playing casually, I could still get an S or SS rank here and there. But that never happened with DMC 2. It was mostly Bs for me, with a few As and Cs in between. You have to try hard right away to get an S. Another point in favour for me is the directional inputs for combos. This was criticized by many, but honestly, I like this system more. No matter the direction you press, Dante will always do that combo. Unlike DMC 3, where you have to keep track of wherever Dante is facing and press the direction accordingly. Many times I tried to do Jam Session with Nevan, only to end up doing combo III 'cause Dante shifted the direction he was looking in the meantime. Same with Royalguard's Release. I want to do that, but Dante just does Ultimate instead. I love DMC 3 and the other games, but I feel like this is one aspect the series needs to do away with. Just let me do Jam Session with Left + mashing Y, regardless of where Dante is facing >_
This game and this Soundtrack is really a legend but it will always be one of my favorite games forever because Devil May Cry will live Forever in my heart and Devil's Never Cry...
@@user-gr1gb7os2twrong. Vergil first appearance is in DMC1 as Nelo Angelo. When Dante finally beat him, he have a flashback of his mother calling both of them as children, and she says "Dante and Vergil" calling them to receive their amulets as birthday gifts
Capcom just need to remake this game and when i mean remake i mean like brand new story MABEY same side kick. keep the dope metal music i think it fits future dante quite well! Yes a new remake is needed
Actually I think that the story isn't really all that bad, it's just the way it was executed. The game probably would be better if there were more cutscenes explaining things, and improvements to the actual gameplay. Other than that the game isn't as miserable to play through like DmC: Devil May Cry. Though that's simply my opinion.
+Bloodroses6263 I agree but the weapons on the game weren't much either you just had more devil trigger abilities(which was cool) and Dante wasn't all that cool at all.
iShadow I mean there's still a lot they could have done to make the game better. Still, it wasn't a completely miserable game. I would like a remake too, just improve the gameplay, graphics, weapons, and to give a more clear view on the story line.
+Bloodroses6263 true but there's one thing I wouldn't want to have them change and it's the Majin Devil Trigger Dante has when he's dying(at least that's what I think the DT's name is but idk)
I played DMC 2 in the remastered collection after finishing the other two games and got all the achievements. Having played it for so long I learned to appreciate it even though the gameplay is doggy cheeks. As much as I'd like for DMC 3 to get a remake, I feel like DMC 2 deserves it more. That way we can finally say that the DMC series has no truly bad games (the main series at least). The OST fucking bangs and I can only imagine how it would sound remastered.
For an unknown reason, the 2nd is my favourite so far (played the HD collection). It is unique, didn't even feel that easy gameplay everybody talked about (probably because I always get a B in every mission lol) and its character design changed my life, like fr, because that badass Dante became my goal in terms of personality and looks; also, the soundtrack slaps so fucking much that I transcribed two songs on piano (1 is a WiP, you can check my first arrangement on my channel). The only thing I probably don't agree with is the fact that everyone wants a remake... hear me out, awesome games got an awesome remake, life FFVII, but I don't know how a DMC 2 remake would feel; it may be necessary to upgrade its gameplay, but the ambience needs a lot of work to represent its gothic-urban look: with that being said, CAPCOM probably doesn't want to spend a lot on a GOOD remake, prioritising a future Devil May Cry.
1:59 Okay, this might be my favorite DMC soundtrack alongside Devils Never Cry. That mix of trip hop and slight darkwave is incredible. Honestly one of the only good parts of this game alongside Lucia and Dante's character design.
@@natsukisubaru159 This isn't about opinions. It's literal fact that dmc2 is not the best in the series and that's coming from someone who likes the game.
@@xenowarrior282 So what if DMC2 isn't the best for you. If someone says that it's the best in the series, it's the best for him and we must respect his/her opinion. But I won't talk again about this, it's really useless.
In which way?Separated story of 2 main characters in which you don't get story because it's shown abruptly and splitting story on 2 discs are even more BS. Story is short, characters are almost the same in mechanics and animation, wide range is OP and actually one of the bosses can be killed almost only with wide range weapons, design of locations is good but only in some levels, backtracking and the same bosses(it was in DMC4-5 too but combat was better).Combat became very castrated. You shouldn't even buy combos. Only strength of weapon(which are identical except few ones). Acrobatics in this game was superb but useless with big map.And thanks for helicopter boss and tank boss. So imaginative 🤣
Well.As a Devil May Cry fan,to be honest,I loved all of the games, including DMC2.During DMC2 gameplay, the mistake I noticed that it has auto lock-on and in some boss battles, the only requirement you just do is to just shoot them.
Man how I wish this game got a full on Remake. The locations and music were amazing. But the combat and boss fights (except the last boss) really are a let down
2:20 - Deceitful, unforgiving, whoever the hell you think I am. Bring me to my knees. Let me be myself again. Forgive. Forget. Hold it against me in contempt. Drowning me in tears. Bitter salt that knows no fear. I'm better off alone. Keep to myself so nobody knows...
Reasons why i like devil may cry 2:the greatest out of all of the others, Graphics, Soundtrack, Dante design, Boss battles. My favorite boss battles: Nefasterius (or whatever the building mutant’s name is.),Arius (as Dante), The despair Embodied (the final form)
I remember playing it and yea it wasn't that great because I don't ever remember finishing it or hearing this song lewls, but out of all the devil may cry soundtracks ive heard so far ,2 is the best.
The game wasn't horrible. It was pretty average all in all.Dull levels, dull story, dull characters, which is why response was so negative. The first game was amazing This was just a bad follow up.The action of this game was very good and the soundtrack in my opinion may be the best in the series
DMC2 was my first DMC game. I thought it was the sh!t, then DMC3 blew it out of the water for me. I still frucking LOVE this soundtrack though, it pushed teenaged me into hard rock. _\,,/
Talk bad all you want, but DMC2 is one of the games that most respected the old Dante, even DmC loses to this game that is badly talked about. It has great tracks, I even agree with the criticisms made of it, but it's better than DmC at least.
In which way it's better? Story with cliche? Abruptly story on 2 discs when you fkn don't understand what happened because devs couldn't do one story(but then everyone could see that Dante and Lucia are almost the same in playing but DmC have got great satire on brainwashing of people from Alex Garland(Ex Machine, 28 days later, Judge Dredd,Sunshine etc) with some rebel punk phrases(because punks were always against government) although I agree that characters were not so greatly written(but in DMC2 characters are even more boring),castrated combat(DmC is great hack'n'slash(i think it's near DMC1) and if you compare almost any great hack'n'slash games they will be worse than DMC 3-5 except Bayonetta and NG who have better combat). And in DMC there wasn't even option to buy combos(only weapon is strength which is shit, especially if we compare with GoW which wasn't even fully hack'n'slash but it had more combos and I don't mention DmC).Funny that NT did their best game(most people like their Hellblade,Enslaved,Heavenly Sword with bad combat)but some whiny assholes think it's bad. This combat is like Enslaved 2.0.Capcom nerds hated RE4 for action and was fapping on stupid camera angle(which they hated in DMC 1-2 but selfish jerks still think that awful camera give you suspense even RE4-5 have had few scary moments) Funny that creator of DMC 3-5 love DmC and added some things in DMC 5(not only soundtrack).Oh, and he was executive producer and consultant of DmC so how do you see from this point? In which way DMC 2 is better? Overall result? No. Acrobatics? Yeah but then other game is worse(if we don't count that it's useless mechanic).Control? No. Camera angle was mediocre if not garbage when MC was auto-aiming not close enemy but some other one and your char just missed a shot and platformer sections are miles below the same ones DmC(game shows how it should be).Bosses are more interesting.Funny that main boss for Lucia was beaten by me faster than boss before him(its just a disgrace) for 2 minutes
@@sandansaiyan5675 I just ended up liking him more for being the classic character, in DmC they could have shown more respect to the original not making fun of him with that "1 million years" joke, I thought the DmC elements and all were great, but this joke is a crime with the original character. In metal gear rising when there was reference to Solid Snake, he was called a legend by some and not made fun of. Well it's just my taste, what's good about him a little is the fact that he's playing with Trish for the first time and a few very few things that are saved like the return of some bosses from the first like Phantom for example, I respect your opinion and understand your points.
@Jane Terri I agree. Another thing people don't realize is that, given the style of the original, this one is much more of a successor aesthetically than the more recent ones. He went from red leather to cowboy boots and no shirt. That never made sense to me.
This is my 2nd favourite DMC game. I like the gameplay in DMC2, this one stands out. Of course, you gotta like all the DMC's. DMC5 is my favourite. Then comes DMC2, then comes DMC3, then DMC4, then DMC1. :/
Great Opinion!, DMC2 was my favourite a few years ago, I still like it, but now my top would be (from best to worst): 1°DMC5 2°DMC1 3°DMC3 4°DMC2 5°DmC Reboot 6°DMC4 (I really hate it).
Combat is awful, story is very boring and cliche, you can defeat enemies even without using stylish system(ofc in last difficulties it's another talk) but combat didn't have complexity even comparing with DmC(which is great game but ofc nerds will say it's not),weapons are the same except few ones, acrobatics was only one stand out which should've been in other games but unfortunately it hadn't happened
Terricule Definitely. Soundtrack and the Dante design... the best in the entire series. I wish future DMC titles would go back to Dante's DMC 2 design. DMC 2's Dante looks leaner & meaner than his DMC 4 counterpart. DMC 4's Dante is bulkier and... yeah, more funny, less serious. If I recall, DMC 2 is chronologically the last game in the series. So, Dante is older, perhaps has seen or lived things that turned him more serious. But really, in DMC 2, Dante mostly had very "cheesy" lines. Still, his looks were the best in the series. Imagine a current gen (PS4 / XONE) DMC 2 Dante design.
@@Factboy12 it isn't chronologically the last game. There are 2 reasons why he's different in 3 & 4. 1) Dante's cocky personality didn't exist until 3. 2) This game is the edgy sequel many series got in the early 2000s.
You aren't alone, I'm one of those exceptions too that really loves this game, it's not as polished as DMC3 but hey is a good game, there are really bad games out there that don't deserve the attention they received, for example: Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty, too overrated.
Fuck Infested helicopter hard mode It introduced concepts/ideas that would be used in other games but it is still pretty bad, only playing to 100% the HD collection
At least this game is not DMC4 where throughout the whole story, Nero is moaning KYRIE!!!! It's seems a lot like the the Twilight version of DMC. Constant whining is annoying. Plus Dante's personality and everything else feels like it went the wrong way in terms of continuity.
What was wrong with Dante? It's not like he had any reason to take the order seriously. Sure they were tough for Nero to deal with, but for someone like Dante, every boss was a total cakewalk. They never had any chance of winning and Dante was the only one who knew it, so he could afford to be a lot less serious since he wasn't actually in any danger of being defeated. Personally I'll take Nero's understandable emotional outbursts after failing to save the woman he loves over DMC 2 Dante's silence throughout most of the game.
@@DevilHunter1994 Dante is too similar to dmc3 Dante... He should have been more serious in dmc4, since it takes place after dmc1 and dmc2... He was a bit childish, but anyway dmc4 is great, although I don't like Nero's emo moments, he was more developed character in dmc4 than Dante...
@@eldergod9791 Personally I'd say DMC 4 was just correcting a problem with DMC 2. DMC 2 Dante failed to capture what people liked about the character due to a bad script and some poor voice performances. I'd still argue he really has no reason to be serious in 4 since The Order was never really a threat to him. It was made pretty clear throughout the game that Dante could have crushed the Order easily at any time. He was purposefully holding back by the end of the game because he was trying to save Nero from The Savior. Had it not been for that, Sanctus and The Savior would have been effortlessly dealt with.
@@DevilHunter1994 I get your point, but Arius was also easy for him to deal with, and so was Mundus... He looks a bit like a teenager in dmc4 despite the fact that he is in his late thirtyes(Official by capcom)... There is a fan theory that Dante suffers from depression, especially in Anime, so depression dictates changes in his personality through the series, and I really start to understand and like that theory...
