use a putty knife to separate the vibration damper rather than screwdriver or pliers to avoid scratching or bending it. put the brake lube on the pad, not the damper, that way you won't have any chance of getting the lube on the disk. maybe clean the insides with brake cleaner? drive the pin before pumping the brakes. other than that, great video! very detailed. thanks.

Excellent video: lots of details, great camera angles and references given. Maybe the best I have watched. What else could we wish for?! Sway bars change, shocks/dampers change (specially w/ PASM), drop links…on a 981! I am just saying as I know they would be brilliant videos to help me doing maintenance on my 981 but I am not asking! Thanks a lot all and plenty you have already published

very helpful, thank you. I'm taking my 2006 CS to Sonoma next weekend for the first time. It'll be quite different from the 350Z on track. The pads i use are Hawk HP Plus. i love how hard they grip.

Just an excellent video. I took care of my own brake pads on all four wheels and the rotors last week. I have a 2008 CS. I took your advice and ordered the pug gloves. They are fantastic. The only glove I’ve ever found that I can wear all day and not sweat. Excellent advise. Thank you.

Great video I had no idea there were the sockets/dampers within the pistons stuck to back of pad. Also like the whee alignment studs to trying to line up with car on jack is a real pain without.

if the caliper has been removed for some reason, like when replacing the rotors it's much easier to put the dampers on the pads and then insert them in the caliper. then re-install the caliper. in fact it might be easier to just remove the caliper in all circumstances when replacing the pads and dampers. the lack of a rotor avoids problems involving adhesive and rotor.

Those Wheel Stud Alignment Pins are exactly what I'm looking for! The lugs bolts I'm using are a 3/4 inch/19mm head - what alignment pins do you recommend?

Hi, Thank you that's a very well explained video & easy to follow. Can I ask, is the CRC Disc Brake Quiet (The Red stuff) used essentially as a glue to stick the vibration plate to the pads?

Yes, that's why it's there. However, recently I've stopped using it since it appears to be unable to stand up to the heat of track use.

@@CliffsGarage I suppose any heat resistant glue would work? Thinking about it, if it stuck too well & you couldn't get the vibration plate off, it would mean removing the caliper each time?

There is no need to hammer the rod out of the caliper. Simply press down on the spring with your thumb, and push the rod through with your punch using the other hand. After you get the rod half way, you can use the punch to depress the spring. If you hammer it though enough times (like me) you will start to enlarge the holes meant to retain the rod.

Well, that may be true for you, but with every time I've done it there was no way hand pressure was going to move that pin. Corrosion and grime make sure of that.
