How do you strike your opponents ear during an attack?
While some self-defense instructors will tell you to angle your hand or cup it in a certain way to better grip your attacker’s ear, it’s not necessarily true.
When you want to slap your attacker’s ear, just smack him. Plain and simple.
You don’t have the time to angle or position your hand in a certain way. Just slap him as you would any other part of his body. Think of a palm strike and just strike him.
Make sure to put all your weight behind your ear slap for maximum efficiency. This will create a better impact and have better results.
When you’re slapping your opponent’s ear, you need to be ready to continue with a strike.
The ear slap will not be enough to disadvantage your opponent. So, don’t stop with just the ear strike. Be ready to keep striking until you’ve incapacitated your attacker and can successfully get away.
You can practice the ear slap with your partner or on a dummy to perfectionate your self-defense technique.

Showed this to my 9 year old the other day. Sweetest kid on earth. SELF defense is what im teaching. Not how to be a bulky or "Fighting". Good stuff!

However you do it, unless you have noodle strength, you will SERIOUSLY hurt your opponent - it’s a great tactic. Great video.

"Kanntaap" this is what its called in my hometown kanpur. Though we keep it pretty simple...just keep the wrist relaxed ...hand Swinging loose and with a flick of the forearm, boom!..right on the ear and the opponent admits, how dark the day looks with sweet ringing of bells .

Is it any more efficient than a throat strike, or a simple palm strike to the jaw? With more and more vids coming I'm starting to feel like literally anything can be used, but there is going to be this..."set(s)" of moves that are just better/generally more advantageous... Not a pro , but I'm not seeing an advantage in what looks almost like a b*tch slap over a hook or something else.

It’s less potentially lethal than a throat strike and, all things being equal, more painful and disorienting than a palm strike to the jaw: Not only does it cause immense discomfort, it also compromises hearing and balance.

Great question, sometimes the choice of strike will differ depending on the circumstance. A throat strike is quite a dangerous move and should only be used in a life-threatening situation. An ear strike, is extremely useful for self-defense and can be used as a first strike and also during a fight. Also, depending on the angle of your attacker and your positioning an ear slap can be an excellent choice for personal protection.

It can be tricky to assess when you’re in a life-threatening situation, but I would use this as a rule of thumb: If a weapon appears or more than one attacker takes to you, assume you’re in a life-threatening situation and fight with lethal defensive intent. Thank God I’ve never been in such a predicament. Who knows if I’d be able to make good on that rule of thumb? For all I know, my social conditioning against deadly force would kick in and freeze me in my boots. I remember one of my first lessons in Krav: My instructor asked the class, “Who here is afraid of hurting people?” We all raised our hands, and he responded, “Get over it.” He was right too say that. It’s just so damn easier said than done.

Good point Kevin. We always preach to defuse the situation and avoid fighting. We teach self defense to civilians for life threatening situations. When your life is in danger, we give you options to stay safe. The ear slap is one of the strikes you can use to defend yourself. Cheers.

@Kevin M WHY would the assailant want to do X thing to you in the first place? I doubt THEY care about YOUR well-being. If they are going to attack me, they already chose to pay the price. You can choose to live your life by 'what ifs' and die: I won't. I'm not a man so I would definitely try this because I doubt I can survive a physical fight: I'd give it my all. Would have to be more vicious than the attacker if I want to live. No regret.

Great question, we'll cover more ground in a future video, thanks for the suggestion. The ear slap is actually quite effective for self-defense. It's a surprising strike because it comes from the sides and it actually creates an unbalance movement of your opponent, to your advantage.
