First you must have a good posture like kickboxing,is the basic, second i use my arm to defend, second counter and attack,3: parry and attack in a vital point or areas like temple, jaw, nose, organs, this areas if is possible. The 4 point is "break the attack" The 5 is dodge, swing and counter 6: grab, for exemple i deflect the punch pushing over and i can go for a grapple technique or even choke.
Speaking in the view of self defense if your hands are in this way like: "stop" the agressor can swing a knife and cut your fingers! Just have it in mind. I use several techniques against punches, but first i Must tell you...the agressor probaly is not a boxer,he can come like a crazie he will not always give you punches like a boxer,so you must know how to defend against "crazy punches" like hammer fist, hammer cross, crazie haymaker swings, have it in mind.
Thanks alot for the video! Quick question, if a guy is talking to me and he looks threatening, should I move so I'm at a 45 degree angle from him, that way I can block potential punches better?
Thanks Edward for your comment, it's appreciated. If you sense that your life is in danger and someone is about to punch you or attack you, in any way, you have the right to protect yourself. Follow your intuitions and protect yourself. Always keep your hands up and protect yourself if you feel you are in danger. Take care
Hey I just subscribed. I've only been in one fight and I made it out pretty good actually but I'm only 5 ft 6 lol so it's cool to see some ways I could have done better and improve for if I ever need to defend myself again. Thanks
Sigh, I know if I am in the range of a punch I will not be able to block it, stop it...what if one just uses that punch and goes with it allowing it to whip me around and possibly give more power to my elbow strike? Or something like that?
Great question, slipping punches can be great, but it wont be possible to do it for an extended period of time. At one point, you will need to strike back your opponent. But, yes slipping and dogging punches is certainly an important aspect of self defense.
CodeRedDefense.com thanks for your reaction, its cool that you actually take the time to read and aswer commends to help people out, its appreciated, respect
You'll be eating the second punch though, especially if the first is just a feint, so this is a shit technique. Block his arm WITH JUST ONE ARM, THERE IS NO NEED TO USE BOTH. You should be using your other hand to hit him at the same time you strike. That way, if it's just a feint, then he'll regret he didn't commit to it.
yea..it will only works against attacker that have no martial art background and drunk or very angry person, i practice silat and have spared against other silat fighter who could easily throw a kick at a very close range, and you could see also in karate or tae kwondo
How to block punches: You don't, in boxing, kickboxing, muay thai, you name it. You have these really big and thick gloves, it's easy to eat the hits using them as protection. You don't have that in a street fight, you've got your bare hands. It's better to avoid the hits like they do in MMA. In MMA they don't use thick boxing gloves, that's why they step out of the action instead of taking the hits.
