Does it flex? That is the one question that I get asked all the time about the ACCUAIR air suspension system. That or versions of it like, can it flex? What kind of articulation does it have? Can it rock crawl? And, that's what Cindy and I hope to show you in this first video of the ACCUAIR Jeep JT Gladiator, out on the rocks and with the purpose of letting you decide how it does. I should note that you'll also get to see a few other cool benefits of having this kit so pay attention and be sure to watch until the end.

Thanks for all your accuair videos. I’m a disabled vet and at the age of 70 I’m finally giving in and lowering the difficulty of the trails I ride and looking for a more comfortable ride. I’m going from a JL Rubicon to a Bronco (IFS benefits) and am considering the accuair system. I greatly appreciate the info you are providing. As an aside, you have excellent off-road driving skills, unlike a lot of the RU-vid personalities who use speed and over-built vehicles to make up for their lack of skill. The “kids” need a good example, and you sir are.

I’m blown away by that Accuair system. You guys put it through a good mix of easy to somewhat difficult obstacles and it handled it great. So awesome how you were able to simply raise the whole rig to clear that ledge! The flex was really impressive ad well, no way did I think you’d get that much articulation. I honestly don’t fully understand how it can achieve it. Thanks for showing your test sessions!

Great job editing to the both of you! It’s great that you actually tested it like you wheel you own Jeeps. Interested to see how those airbags hold up to constant flexing on the trail. Although the air system doesn’t flex and travel as well as a coil setup, for everyday driving and towing, the air system seems like it would be awesome.

I like how these work per corner, very cool. Tire inflation is very cool too. This could be a nice upgrade for my RockLander build eventually. Shorter airbags integrated into a coilover would be a neat way to select ride height without making the spring too stiff. Airbags filled to max height tend to be very stiff and result in a pogo stick effect (like the Grand Cherokee TrailHawk) however these seem to still compress decently at taller ride heights. I bet you get better fuel economy on the highway If you lower the ride all the way down too.
@wayalife
@wayalife Год назад
Yup, when set to #1 which is 2" lower than the default height, you do see better fuel economy.

Very interesting, as a new sub I’ve got some ideas… While driving on an edge of a slope (as if going to flip) can you air up one side max and bottom out the opposite side to feel level inside just for kicks. Next when the front and rear opposite tires are free spinning or there about (stuck), add air to the compressed (grounded tires) to give traction back to the ones that has lost it. Being non rubicon think that would be an interesting test for many. Cant forget max payload and trailer tongue to test out the towing handling characteristics.

@wayalife how does the draglink account for the different ride heights? I assume the steering wheel straight ahead would change at different heights. There is a sensor in the steering that will activate limp mode as a traction control tactic if it's senses that the steering is too many degrees turned after certain speeds are reached in the case that the vehicle is in a side slide.
@wayalife
@wayalife Год назад
As I mentioned in our previous video, all the suspension and steering components are set for the default ride height, setting #2. At setting #1, there isn’t enough of a change in geometry to affect steering and you can drive at all speed without issue. Riding on the bump stops or at maximum height, setting #3, you can only drive at speeds of 25 mph or under. In other words, below the threshold that would trigger the traction control system.

Now I’m in a different situation due to me having the 2021 setup, that came with dual air tanks. So my tanks are mounted on each role bar on the angle in the back of the jeep. Due to the bump stops being longer, the bump stop housings had to be cut down some to get a correct fit for the air bag. Other than that, that’s about it. Great review thanks. 1) Wonder how it is for pre running for fast flatter dirt fun? 2)Wonder if we could do Fox show if we were inclined down the road with the kit?
@wayalife
@wayalife Год назад
1) we will be putting out a video on that soon. 2) so long as the shocks are the same length compressed and extended, there should be no reason why you couldn't run a set of Fox
@pistoncount
@pistoncount Год назад
I don't have one ....but I think the high speed stuff would give more of a pogo effect. Better shocks would help but still think the prerunner speed is better left to the springs. what setups are on the prerunners that are without budget.

LOL - it ain't cheap but it's really not that far off compared to other standard coil and shock kits and still cheaper than coilovers. But clearly, it's not for everyone. Glad you enjoyed the video.

I want to see the Accuair Gladiator on the Rubicon or a similar trail. Something long that will thoroughly test the system's ruggedness.

LOL - would love to but we're having one of the most epic winters I have ever seen. If this keeps up, we won't be able to run the Rubicon until July.

My Jeep is a JKU 4 DR and she’s my Daily Driver. How are the manners on the Street? I’m so torn between this System vs a Clayton Lift w/ SDI-ECLICK PRO. Thoughts my Friends? I just found your Videos recently thanks for the awesome content. Peace

Probably the best solution for those that want to overland and light Rock crawling. It did well ( obviously not as good as a full coilover kit with long arm Suspension ) if all you're going to do is Rock crawl idk why anyone would buy a Gladiator to just do that... Air-Bags hold up well ( only downfall is getting oil on them. ) Not sure of the quality of the Air Compressor but it probably wouldn't hurt to buy an extra one ( just in case ) It also would be nice if they could design some sort of a Puck to stick under the bag to raise the Vehicle if Failure should happen to one of the bags. The Best kit out there for Versatility, hands down!
@wayalife
@wayalife Год назад
I agree, this kit is probably best suited for your typical overlander who might dabble in some light rock crawling.

Very nice! What is that buzzing sound around 9:54? It seems to run for some time. Is it the air compressor? If so, why does the system need more air, is it the extreme articulation?
@wayalife
@wayalife Год назад
The Jeep you're looking at runs ARB air lockers. Unfortunately, the one in the rear ProRock 80 axle has a leak inside the differential. We've replaced it several times and it's just a defect in the design. It still works with the compressor on but it is annoying to all hell.

This may be a little long. I like the concept. It seems to work. Moby on the other hand is amazing. But over the years I have seen what you put into Moby (still my favorite) Moby was in keeping it tight. This is cool. I would stick with Moby wayalife. Eddie thank you for another fantastic video. Oh one last thing Jane. Do you still drive her?

Cost is definitely the biggest negative but if you watch all the other videos that we've made testing this kit, I think you will find there aren't too many others.

That's pretty darn impressive, Eddie. My curiosity lies in this area. How does the ride off-roading compare with a coil sprung Gladiator, of course, with lift and 37's?
@wayalife
@wayalife Год назад
So, ride quality is 100% subjective but in my opinion, this system rides smoother and more comfortable than our stock 392 or JL Sport. As far as off roading goes, I would say that it's as comparable if not a bit better than a lot of kits that I've tested with 37s.

@backwoodstherapy
@backwoodstherapy Год назад
That's an impressive amount of flex for anything, let alone air bags. Whoever designed that setup knew what they were doing. My only concern would be if the system springs a leak while on the trail and the gladiator ends up on its lowest setting. Still, I love unique builds and this is awesome. I also love that you give love to the sports - this ride, and Pippie. Do you still have pippie? Regardless, happy trails!
@wayalife
@wayalife Год назад
ACCUAIR is so confident in the durability of their suspension system that they will warranty it for 100k miles. As far as Pippi goes, yes, we still have her and hope to put out new videos featuring her soon. :)

Nice video But it seemed to me like for the most part (except the time you stopped to raise it) that you were in the lowest setting of the accuair system while wheeling. How would it do if you took the entire ride at the highest position ?? Again, great video . . .
@wayalife
@wayalife 8 месяцев назад
Actually, we were running most of the trail in the default setting #2. Going to #3 would offer too harsh of a ride. Fine for crawling but not ideal for moving fast across the desert.
