I have a 6.4 with 320,000 miles on it. At 299,900, I started to have low power issues and I was throwing a code related to the electronic pressure control solenoid on the high-pressure pump. At 299,900 I was still on original injectors, original HPFP and all original long block. I bought the truck with 60k on it and deleted the regen and EGR at that time. With all the naysayers out there about how bad these engines are, I decided to leave the cab on and pull the motor out the front. People say you have to pull the cab to pull the engine, but found it relatively easy to remove with the cab on. Pretty much like any other motor pull. I disassembled the entire long block and couldn’t find any measurable or visual signs of wear. The machine shop said 6 of the 8 cylinders measured at factory OEM specs and two were just a tad lose. They said rering only or bore to 0.020. Like you, I also searched far and wide for rebuild information on the high pressure pump but came up empty handed. I did fully disassemble the pump fully but couldn’t visually find any problems. I suspect, the problem was the electronic pressure solenoid that mounts to the pump. I probably found the same parts place online as you did. They were located in Florida but all the parts had to be purchased individually and came from Germany. I didn’t want to wait the thee weeks for the parts so I put the pump back together and used it as a core for a rebuilt unit. Long story short, I only use my truck to tow the toyhauler or my jeep. I have around 20k on my truck since the rebuild and it has never run better.

You can’t beat the power from these! Mine wasn’t throwing any codes. It would just die and wouldn’t start again until it cooled off. I think it was boiling the fuel inside the HPFP. Working on the injectors now. Hopefully back on the road soon.

You are one of the most dedicated truck owners I know! So many issues but you have persevered! I have been pretty busy with college, but I need to get a video out soon. Great video!

You have the most trouble out of a 6.4 i’ve ever seen, be patient with it though it’ll treat you right especially since you have done all this work to it. I love a good 6.4 ❤

I have been undoing years of abuse and neglect from the previous owner. Unfortunately, I had to buy another truck to get me around while working on this so somebody else is going to enjoy the fruit of my labor.

I just bought a 2010 Ford F-350 6.4l Power Stroke. The downside to buying this after pulling the motor, there was a big hole in the side of the block where piston 8 is located. I'm going to be completely rebuilding the engine with a new block and I am so glad some of these videos you have posted are out because they are going to help so much with looking for things to keep an eye on when I'm doing this rebuild to ensure I won't have to pull the engine for a long time. I really do appreciate your videos. Thanks!

Great video man love the content just replaced the pistons and bearing everything within spec but went to maxxforce 7 pistons since the stock ones were prone to cracking, my truck runs like a top i have 2 more of the hpfp from other engines and always wanted to take one apart and rebuild on just in case mine takes a dump. Now i feel more confident thanks

Great you were able to put ‘er back on the road! If you do the HPFP be careful to put the rotary pump back on the right way. I put mine upside down and it ruined the pump. I showed it in my fuel injector video.

Hey brother. Praise the Lord first of all. You are an inspiration as I came across a video of yours this morning. I was watching your engine rebuild on your 6.4. I am a veteran and needed something to pass my time. So I started a diesel shop. I thought I knew about engines. Haha. I learned so much more fixing and building performance engines. I am impressed with your knowledge. Except why you have a 6.4.😅 Thanks brother.

Can't believe how much this truck has been a pain to you. You've effectively convinced me not to look at buying a 6.4.

I've seen people who abuse their 6.4, and they keep on going. I think its. More hit or miss maybe.......my f450 zf6 6.4 dump truck was amazing pulled my mini excavator everywhere ..work horse

My 6.4 was bought used by me and she died while driving and has cylinder contribution codes. I may need the HPFP too
@nathantexada66
@nathantexada66 Месяц назад
And if you remove the DPF regeneration and EGR ECU programs they are much much better but this HPFP is annoyingly placed

You have the best and possibly, the only remaining DIY 6.4 vids out there. Have you considered a fuel additive like archoil to combat the friction in the pump? With the garbage diesel we get, anything to help that HPFP from blowing to bits is worth it.
@barntech2291
@barntech2291 8 месяцев назад
Thanks! I am running a fuel additive. I didn’t start until too late though.

Maybe you mentioned it idk but did you also drop your tank and replace the pickup tube and clean all the fuel lines to and from the tank? If that rust is in your pump and fuel bowl, it's in the rails, injectors and we'll just about everywhere! I'm sure you know this. Lift pump also should be replaced. Everything must go and clean tank
@barntech2291
@barntech2291 8 месяцев назад
Yes. The 6.4 doesn’t have a pickup screen but I got tired of pulling trash out of the lift pump so I added a 6.0 pickup screen. I have replaced just about everything. Working on the injectors now.

@@barntech2291 I had to get an estimate from ford cause I had water in my system. They charged me to drop tank and replace the pick up tube and they said the screen fell apart? I assumed it had a screen?

Would you recommend buy a 6.4 powerstroke for a guy who only mechanically inclined to oil changes and only make 12,000 a year after all bills?
@barntech2291
@barntech2291 6 месяцев назад
No. If you don’t work on your own truck I recommend getting something with under 100k miles.
@treefire1310

I thought you were going to sell that truck? I’m still debating whether or not to fix my 6.4 head gaskets or just sell it as is. I’m leaning towards fixing it after looking at the price of newer ones.

I was driving it to meet a buyer and it died on the way! I figured God had other plans.

You need to go to work at an injection system rebuild place at the very least with all the work you've done to that truck. I rigged up a hoist for mowers with just a double 2x6 on a rafter and it won't hold your cab I bet! And things get interesting when the trials and tribulations come but the Bible says that the Lord will give us what we need to get THROUGH them, not erase them. Hope all your outfit are swell. We're all goofy and trying to teach the Grans to learn to moderate theirs. Fat chance. God willing will be waiting for the next one!

I ordered parts from Redat. I couldn’t find new VCV and PCV valves though. I recommend buying a used pump and avoiding the headache.

You said you did the “minimum” amount of work to get the high-pressure fuel pump off. Right behind you is the cab off the truck🤣🤣

I don’t recall exact part numbers but I got all the pump parts from Redat. They have an online catalog. I recommend watching my next video (out soon) before jumping into your pump though.

Very robust pumps. Weak points are the pressure regulators from wear due to fuel quality.
@barntech2291
@barntech2291 Месяц назад
It’s a shame they didn’t make the pressure regulators easier to replace, and easier to buy.
