Gnosticism was a historical school of thought that held the world as imperfect as it was believed to be created by an evil god who was constantly at war with the true, good God: that Christ came to teach liberating knowledge and that women are equal to men. The Gnostics held the Feminine Aspect of God - whom they named Sophia, or Wisdom - in very high regard. They also stressed that we have an innate Divine spark that, when recognised and developed, will ultimately liberate us from the prison of the material world.
