@@bradleystroh3649 the new album is a collection of old songs redone in a gospel fashion. Tyler has become more religious since he has gotten sober. He still has the same spunk and intensity as ever but he is going down a different road than in the past.
@@bradleystroh3649 I bet we'll still see some spunk on this new album. Definitely not as much as purgatory but I have my hopes. I still think it's going to be a great album.
Easter egg alert at 5:25 - "They knew not his name and he knew not their faces.." Both lyrics (to the word) and chords from the Stanley Brothers classic "Rank Stranger". About a man who comes back home and discovers all the people he knew had passed away. Tyler Childers just became a hero if mine.
I wish I could see what Tyler sees while he’s singing. The look in his eyes and the expression on his face makes you wonder what one’s imagination can really hold. He goes somewhere else entirely when he performs.
as a forever learning guitar player, i can at least say that personally i don’t see anything when i close my eyes and i’m taken to that place. the best i can explain it is all your senses are joining together and the only thing i see/hear/feel and even taste and smell is the color or energy of the song you’re balls deep in.
They released a video called Tyler Childers reimagined where he does a version of this song with just his acoustic and his fiddle player. He also tells the origin story of writing it. That version knocks on the door of just about as perfect as a song can be. Incredible vocal performance added to great instrumentals and all time great writing. It is worth the few minutes it takes to check it out. You can thank me later.
You reinstated my ability to FEEL ....I didn't think I had the ability to be moved until I found your videos ...I'm not trying to be overly dramatic but I owe YOU for helping me drop my defenses and looking the man in the mirror as tears fall from eyes that haven't in 15 yrs....I won't bore you with my feelings of inadequacy and agoraphobia etc...you are much more than a guitar teacher YOU are literally saving lives....👏
Gary you aren't the only one who needs this man to hear . My first time seeing and I needed him . Being extreme introvert and extreme depression , which go hand in hand . Today's video was just what I needed as well .
Man I love seeing such high praise thrown on Tyler and my friends in his band. They work their asses off and it’s wonderful seeing so much praise for them. Love your videos.
The simplicity of the music, complexity of the lyrics, the delivery of the message…I love seeing a songwriter belting it out from his soul. You can see in his facial expression that he wants everyone to GET the message he wants to put forth. I love your observation, Michael, of “confidence in his calmness”. Keep up the great work brother!
Tyler's lyrics are so powerful, but watching his facial expressions as he sings them takes them to a whole other dimension. I'm seeing him live for the first time in June at Summerfest and I hope they have some big-ass monitors so I can watch his facial expressions!
Dang where he get that growl? I been on Tyler from the jump and that there is progress at it's finest . Real music is finally making a comeback and for that I am very grateful .a wordsmith with a Ozark howl ...who would have thought . Love it , love it, love it. And a fiddle and a harmonica are a couple of the only instruments that blend harmony over guitar like that simply gorgeous.
This is probably my favorite song by him right now, arguably my favorite overall right now. Mainly because shit it's Tyler and his voice. But also because of how and when this song was created. He actually wrote it sitting in a bar while being stranded in Chicago. So when I listen to its such a visual piece.....also like you said, his band is awesome. It's a perfect match.
Spent a lifetime hating on bluegrass. Then, bout 3 years ago, I clicked on a live song that the title gotten me curious. Ever since then I’ve been totally obsessed with his music & cannot explain why.
Ive been listening to Tyler for 2 or 3 years now. Whether he's doing a solo thing with just him and an acoustic or he's got his full band, it's all great. I'm really liking the new record. The song 'Way of the Triune God' is probably my favorite. It's got this gospel stomp thing going on that hits my ear just right. Great vid Mike!
He did a version of old country church during this same concert “healing Appalachia” in lewisburg, WV and it was absolutely electric. I loved the whole concert
I've been on a TC kick lately. A friend who is a great singer recommended him about 6 months ago, and I have been diving in and grooving... thanks for highlighting him again. Love your channel and what you do!
What a spot on way to describe Tylers live performances. I've had the pleasure of seeing him live twice, one being this Farm Aid fest. He is stoic and just broadcasts his message with such passion. Love it.
This is great. Not just your breakdown of the song, but you sharing your feelings about what the song means to you. Thanks for that. Tyler has certainly been through a lot and it resonates through his music, making it incredible. Cheers, from Carroll County!
Been one of my favorites by him for a couple years. Heard it for the first time while hunting actually lol. The neighboring property was quite close and dude was blasting it from his porch lol. Didn’t kill anything, but got a new favorite song.
I have seen hundreds of these first time hearing videos and i have never commented. Your style of teaching and the way you listen intently is perfect. I love that you are a dad like me with a son in middle school like me! Instant sub. You are awesome man.
As an old man , I love how he brings his personal faith ( they knew not His name , He knew not their faces ) . There's a little scripture in most each of his songs .
So glad to find someone who understands Tyler on this level He makes me laugh through my tears. Laugh with delight because AUTHENTIC is still out there on the stage. Rage on Tyler.
This is my favorite Tyler song and this performance on its own is incredible. However, I keep coming back to this video because you nail everything about why it's great and seeing you loving it makes me love it even more. Keep up the great work on this channel!
Tyler had a flight land early in Chicago and his phone was dead. His buddy wasn’t supposed to pick him up for a few more hours. He waited at a bar and hated the city so much that he wrote this while waiting on his friend
What a great explanation of Tyler and his band! I will listen with more intent going forward. I’ve been a fan for a while but have never seen them live.
Man, I love your videos. I don't understand half of what you're talking about, but somehow I still understand. Your excitement for music is infectious and your commentary never fails to help me appreciate music more than I already do. I have found so many amazing new artists because of you and I hope to continue watching you for years to come. Thank you for loving what you're doing.
@@robnilles6625 he sang a mix of his older songs and a few from the album getting ready to release. When he performed his solo set he played Whitehouse Road, Lady May, and a couple others. I'm trying to find a set list.
I love TTC and this song is in my top 10 of his. I can’t narrow it down more than that. I want to see him more than anybody on the planet. The new trio of albums is incredible!!!
My favorite thing about my current favorite artists is the bands… The bands keep it sooo tight. Soooo smooth they do not spill a drop out of the bucket.
He’s one of a kind no doubt I’ve been lucky enough to be introduced to him and he was so down to earth. We all knew way back then he was gonna be something special. He remembered my name after seeing him again years later and you know he’s met his fair share of faces I was absolutely floored that he actually remembered me at all he called me by name when I stepped up in line to buy one of the limited (120)early releases of purgatory a month before the major release . The food stamps are always so tight!!
Thanks for this video Michael. Check out "Gas Well" by Charles Wesley Godwin- Great tune. I know you did "Seneca Creek" a while ago, but I'd really like to see a breakdown of this song. Thanks.
you have to listen to his space and time cover, i believe it’s going to be on the new album and he just played it in lewisburg, he has a professionally recorded version up on youtube and it’ll blow your mind
love you the way you talked about his performance and writing. I say the same things at least once a week to anyone who tries to say country isn't great
Knee jerk comment finding this video. was not let down. I love that you are just as much of a fan as I am and wanted to interject often but sat back and enjoyed what you were seeing before commenting! Best video of yours yet in my eyes!
Yo! Great video. I saw (maybe) the same show? When he filled in for sturgill Simpson. I had already seen sturgill at the same venue, so the fact that he filled in was incredibly good news for me. Cheers!
I've been bingeing on Tyler lately...love your reaction! I find this song in particular (and his current 'look') very reminiscent of Hank Snr...anyone else see it?
That Bro Country sound where the stories are simplistic and bubble gum. Real good Country is when the story makes you feel real pain, real joy. I think we are just Angels Flying Too Close to the Ground.
Tyler forces you to FOCUS. I assume most everyone listening to this knows the story behind Tyler and how this particular song came to be. It is incredibly heartfelt, fascinating and relatable. Check it out please, if you don't. Michael have you done "Follow You To Virgie" yet ? P.S. On October 11, 2022 local Kentucky boys Tyler, Chris Stapleton and Dwight Yoakam staged a benefit for Kentucky's flood victims - Kentucky Rising. Peace and Good Day !
You should check out John R Miller! He's a buddy of Tyler's (Tyler covered his song "Coming Down") and he opened for Tyler at Red Rocks - some really killer songs and his voice is amazing!!
I love Childers. But, I really love that PRS. There is just something about the tone that guitar creates. Beautiful. And when you say modern country, you mean pop country. The stuff that gets jammed down our throats on the radio with snap tracks.
(Adam Sandler)wedding singer on bass ! Mr Palmisano THANK YOU for being So damn genuine !YOU have introduced me to so many talented musicians you included ...your reaction to sideways from Travis Meadows
Those shows were awesome. The only thing I wish I could have changed was if he sat out in the crowd the first night as my seats for Wednesday night were right where he was on Thursday.
You mentioned his onstage demeanor, and how he just does the tune without too much ……he’s not very demonstrative…..!! The late Roy Buchanan was a gifted guitarist….I mean a real animal…..!! When he played Jimmy Hendrix’s “Hey Joe” or whatever else he played, he was so cool….!! He used to sing a verse, do a screaming nearly impossible lead break, and he would casually step up to the mic and sing the next verse like nothing had happened…!! He was the coolest….!!
Please react to Kent Nishimura's cover of 25 or 6 to 4 and Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? These are insane fingerstyle covers with the way he is able to get all of the melody and solos in.
You should react to Dead and Company Sugar Magnolia live from Folsom Field, Boulder, CO. 7/14/18. I think it’s one of dead and company’s best sugar magnolias and Mayer is so good at sitting in the song.
Saw an interview with him. He said he wrote that song about a day he was on his way to visit a cousin. He got lost in the city, and his cell phone was dead, and he only had five dollars on him. So he finally came across this little bar. He ordered whatever five bucks would buy him, and sipped on it while his phone charged.
You should listen to Tylers new song “Way of the Triune God” it’s so amazing and i know you would like it, his new album is all about how he’s happy and stuff now because he’s sober know and not so much is going wrong in his life
Man. If I knew you irl... I would introduce you to the Fiddle/Guitar player. I think Jesse would be a good interview for you. He's the Professor for a reason.
