Little bit behind with the EV News upload schedule so expect a few videos in quick succession!
In this week's EV News, Hertz announce they're pausing Polestar purchases in 2024, Morrisons might finally be getting serious about EV charging as they sell their forecourts to MFG, British EV startup Forseven targets the luxury market and Norway proves yet again that everything you say about EVs in cold climates is dubious at best.

Fair bit of moaning about the sound - sorry I don't travel with a full studio setup, must try harder.

If you wanted to improve it but not carry a tonne, I suspect a lavalier mic would be the way to go and good ones are about £15. However... it was fine for me considering you were on the move and in a very plain room. At least you aren't using the mic on some Apple earbuds for a Zoom call from your desk and a laptop camera so we can all see up your nostrils, as plenty of journalists seem to do. :D

Lets be honest for a non EV owner to rent an EV is just a giant pain in the backside. Messing around downloading apps to charge and all the other pitfalls that goes with public charging. I imagine for someone that's never had any EV experience the thought of renting one over a regular car is extremely daunting to the vast majority.

Agree, but all rapid chargers are contactless card payment if you don’t want to use an app or an rfid card, so anyone can just use their debit or credit card. If you’re not an EV user I agree hiring one /using one for the first time would be a worry maybe, and you’d probably get a fossil car.

Yep mainly tap to pay now .... Plus Google Maps has live EV charging station status now... Easy ..

Nope not at all. People tend to make decisions based on ease. If something is more of a hassle why choose that option when there's an easier alternative.

@@newtonsofashley8150 Rapid chargers are quite outside the realm of service stations on motorways. Most that you'll find locally are 11kw/22kw.

As an EV (not Tesla) owner, I'd probably only want to hire a Tesla in a foreign country where I am not familiar with the charging networks. Unless it was somewhere where all Tesla charge points are open to non Teslas.

I _was_ wondering about the Maxxus, but now I’m mostly wondering about the naked purple people behind you 😳

Just hired a Polestar from Hertz for the 2nd time. This time I've got it from 8am Mon to 4pm Thur for £93. Did 213 miles in it today setting off with 100% and arrived home with 24% on the battery. Mostly motorway sat at 65mph using the pilot cruse control. No issues and would give a total range of 280 miles with outside temp at 13-15c. Last time I had one was a lot colder, -2c to 3c max and still gave a total range of 225 miles which would have been higher if I hadn't have been in a bit of a rush to get home so was a bit heavier on the right foot 😉 Might see what the range is sat at 70mph for my trip to Sheffield in a couple of days.

Hi, Tried to watch this when it first came out, no subtitles. Watched your later 'is there too much misinformation...' noted it had subtitles. Came back here and there are subtitles, thanks, I have put this on my watch later list.

The Maxus looks big and expensive to buy but with a low range so saying the first truck we can buy here in the UK so no doubt lots of folk will want one…new Chelsea tractor !

Nobody wants one, that’s why the lease deals on them were so cheap.

Ora 03 seems to be on a "fire sale" type lease deal at the moment. I've see £111 per month.
@ModernHeroes

Yeah I saw them at £167 inc on 1+23 and the deals keep coming. Suggestions that it’d go well next to my Maxus on the driveway are not required 😅

I saw that, it's quite a nice little car actually, deceptively spacious inside. We had one on a 24 hour test drive just for our daughter to have a go, weren't intending to buy but the current lease price is quite tempting as a shuttle. I'd just need to get rid of some others, run out of space on the drive already.

It's funny you happened to mention the imminent arrival of your Maxus T90EV pickup, as I actually saw one on the road for the first time just yesterday... What a HUGE piece of kit...!! I hope you've got a BIG driveway, fella... 🤣

8% of Norways population not buying EVs yet is probably a percentage that might represent the ICE buyers who will hold out for as long as possible in most countries
@jonevansauthor
@jonevansauthor 5 месяцев назад
I looked it up and it's also the proportion of the average population that are considered heavily inbred. I'm kidding, but you wouldn't be surprised, would you?
@sargfowler9603
@sargfowler9603 5 месяцев назад
Indeed. No doubt a reasonable percentage for most countries. May be higher in the UK unless charging is addressed.

This Norway thing does not add up with the cold weather they have! Me thinks there must be some massive subsidies involved or they do not drive very far! And were does Norway get its power from to charge these vehicles! Fairy Dust!

Greetings from Finland. Can’t say about Norway but the charging network here is another level to the uk. Most work places have chargers, all supermarkets generally do, and there are always neighbourhood charging sites. We don’t have a charger at home but charge at work or whilst shopping. Prices at Lidl are 17c kWh on the fast chargers (50kw) so my car is ready after buying my groceries.

Most EVs charging overnight , use excess wind and nuclear electric , so no major stress on the grid.

@@migsvensurfing6310 well, only 88% of their electricity is hydro, and 10% wind and 95.6% renewable. They seem to be really struggling...
@johnodell5310
@johnodell5310 5 месяцев назад
Huge amounts of electricity from hydro and a lot from wind turbines. They are a net exporter of electricity some of which the UK get from them via undersea cables. So many high speed chargers you're never more than dozen miles from one. Long journeys at temperatures below -15°C are easily accomplished with EV's of recent years due to the huge number of chargers in the country. Bjorn Neyland You Tube site shows him doing 1000km (625 mile) journeys in less than 10 hrs, including charging stops. Fuel cars are only just a little faster 9.5 hrs with refuelling stops with a single driver. Electricity prices in Norway are much lower than here due to the excess capacity and petrol/diesel prices are £2+ per litre so you would be mad to use an ICE car.
