Electric vehicles are essential for a lower carbon, cleaner air future. Change is difficult and not everybody is ready to make the leap. Join me as I document my real world electric vehicle experiences - ownership of the first UK spec Citroen Ami Electric, 2013 Renault Kangoo ZE, 2021 BMW i3 and the slow resurrection of a dead 2008 Aixam Mega City Electric! Navigation of the UK's public charging infrastructure, tips and tricks for new drivers to make life easier and all things EV news/reviews from an impartial, real world viewpoint.
I am a (increasingly reformed!) petrolhead through and through - so if you stick around you'll also see me revert to my roots occasionally. My 1982 Fiat Panda 30 is desperate to hit UK roads. Moderation is key - shifting the daily grind to electric greatly reduces the impact of preserving and celebrating the average cars of the past! Head over to my sister channel, Hopeless Heroes, if you want to see more of that kind of thing!
WORLD HEALTH orgs with scientists AND GOVERMENT BODIES due to climate degradation drove/lobbied the car makers to go electric back in 2016/17 now in uk they are starting to reverse this by taking away all the carrots. Go green goverment ??????????
Didn't it used to be £12 to register a company? In my little Midlands Town, a 'local businessman' (using the term very loosely) registered 600 Temporary Employment Agency companies at one adress in the town between October and December 2023. Many directly under Filipino company names and directors and others renamed and then transferred to Filipino persons of significant control. Seems very much some kind of tax/employment scam. Most of these companies will be folded withing 2 years, some already have been. There is little evidence that Companies House makes any checks whatsoever on any new registered companies so charging £50 is another bit of a scam by Companies House.
Yeah it was - and the increase in the fee was supposed to be used to help combat stuff like this. There’s a guy on Twitter (can’t remember the name but easily found by searching for companies house) who tracks this kind of weird registration activity, lot of it around.
Well done on this initiative, sounds a very good business plan, we’re nearly 2 years into an EV (MG4), and would never go back, as the cost savings on fuel alone far outweigh any negatives - so an EV 5-10K mark is an excellent buy, as either a 1st or 2nd car, depending in annual milage.
hello! i have ioniq 2017 28kwh. It is 310.000km and have degradation of battery, capasity is 22kwh (new 26kwh). I think it the best car of the world) Was no problem with this car.
Motorway fees are very high for what they are actually offering. They charge almost as much as the auctions yet don't appraise or handle the car. The general public will happily sell a vehicle with hidden issues to a motor trader, yet will be straight down to citizen advice if someone did the same to them!
I'm doing a similar thing in Cornwall, I'm slightly worried because i got an account with Monzo, i told them i was in used vehicle sales and they just opened the account.
Thank you, very interesting, I had a similar idea to sell evs, as there is no local knowledge of evs in my area Totally agree with problems setting up a bank account for a limited company All the best for your new enterprise
Whilst I’m sure there are a small number where that’s true I do think it’s an overplayed stereotype. Dealers that lie and rip people off don’t stick around very long.
I am not sure motorway is all that good anyway, i was selling via them, winning bid from a dealer was high, when their collection person came they wanted over £900 off for some minor stonechips on the screen. They also had a crappy clause in the buying contract, supposedly all their dealers must be well established and buying many cars via them.
It is an interesting car. There is defo a need for more small cheap electric cars, hatch backs & such. The EV market has way to meany massive SUV's which defeats the point of an EV in the first place.
This reminds me of the early days of the Chops Garage channel, where he bought mostly from BCA and used Warrantywise. Very interested to see how this venture goes, and I presume that you have room on the driveway for the stock rather than have to rent premises, which is crippling? Hope all goes well and will enjoy this new thread of videos.
Yeah i can already see how funding can become a pretty big constraint. That being said i see some with massive pitches loaded with 000,000s of stocking finance and that gives me the fear too
Thank you! I have a couple of really nice Zoes in / coming in, might well suit your needs although they’re perhaps a little more than you were looking to spend.
Banks are mainly living in the past still believing they can charge whatever they want and take their time to actually do the work you are paying them to do. I spent many years in business having to deal with these sort of institutions, just an annoyance
Try Carwow instead of Motorway? Exact same business model. I’ve sold a car via them and it was a great service with plenty of bidding dealers (some seemed pretty small sole traders)
This is quite lengthy - you might well want to use the chapters to help break it up! 00:00 Intro 02:50 Company Formation 04:56 Banking Woes 10:05 Warranty or No Warranty? 13:33 Payments 17:11 Buying Platforms 20:10 Enough already, sell some bloody cars! 24:53 Outro
In May of 2024, I bought a 2021 Nissan Leaf with 28,000 miles on it. It looks and runs like new with 100% showing on the battery health meter. It cost me a total of $11,500. The cost was $15,500 minus $4,000 tax credit under the Inflation Reduction Act (here in the USA.) Check the rules for the $4k credit BEFORE you buy. You'll need to buy from a dealer as opposed to a private party, and it has to be a certain age, mileage, etc. DON'T sign the purchase contract until you FIRST get the dealership's Tax ID number which you will need for your taxes and getting the tax credit. If you buy and try to get the dealer's tax ID after, good luck. Once they have your money, they tend to ignore you.
I collected one from auction in Glasgow last weekend and drove it the 340 miles to Gloucester, seems to be good for 160-170 carefully driven miles on the motorway
I've considered vehicles like this just because it's funny but then I just ride my bicycle for the same trips that I'd use a tiny car for so I don't really see a valid use case for myself.
Quite simply the worst EV in History. No regen, basic outdated and pathetic range, horrible in winter and battery depletes at an alarming rate. AVOID. Needs at least 10 hours to charge.
So what's the car worth when battery has degraded and needs replacement? No one has talked about the value of the car when it is nolonger drivable. My guess is it will be worthless. That is the ONLY reason I am still very hesitant. I really want the Gen 1 i3 Rex but not fully convinced it is wise a choice budget wise albeit they are cheap at the moment. Maybe there is a reason why. Someone convince me otherwise. Cheap to buy now but worth nothing later.
A company local to me has bmw I 3 batteries for $2k installed , the key is not going thru the dealership. I M buying a i3 with range extender (a generator) 2.5 gallonngas tank . Offers 170 miles a gallon
I bought my 2014 i3 Rex with 50k miles for $$14k USD in February 2023. I have replaced -tires, 12v battery, clock spring, spark plugs, fuel pump relay, air filter for cabin, and did 2 oil changes. Most of that work was done by friends. The only thing I don't like about war is small battetin winter. I live in Chicago.
good luck with your venture. im new to ev last week. bought a leaf 2014. so granny charger and its been all i need. im already converted. leaf mk1 exceeded my expectations.
