Symptoms: Long cranks, sputtering, stalling, misfires. Barring an engine mechanical issue, consider a fuel delivery problem.
I am going to demonstrate pulling the fuel pump from the gas tank and show a likely culprit.
There are many ways to "skin the cat" and these are the methods that I use. Any criticisms or alternate methods posted in the comments are welcome, just keep it civil.

Still an excellent video to date, detailed enough to follow each step and short enough to not get lost in it. Thanks much

Nicely done. Might reccomend to clean out debris at bottom of “bucket” lower part of pump assemblt where the fuel pick up is.

Good video, with that many miles on that car. I'd Change the fuel pump as well, you've made it that far

The fuel pump I had was Chinese aftermarket so I stuck with the Honda part. If I had the OEM one, I would have swapped it. Thanks for commenting!

The filter from Honda is £24, I wont risk putting non oem filter, because if it fails in the future, you might need to kiss goodbye to the injectors. Nice video and thank you.

Excellent detailed video and straight to the point. I’ve got an 04 Pilot with the similar long crank issue. And this approach is what I’m going to take also.

@@ktecgarage I have a 2005 honda accord with 230k miles on it that I've been using for Doordash and I've noticed that I'm getting pretty bad fuel efficiency. I've been trying to figure out what I can replace that would cause for fuel efficiency to go bad. Is the fuel pump something that would cause bad fuel efficiency?

Thank you for the excellent video. I have a question about the rubber sleeve that fits around the pump. Did you have to remove the OEM pump from the assembly to fit the OEM pump back into the rubber sleeve. Thank you
@ktecgarage
@ktecgarage Год назад
If I remember right, I removed the pump to fit that sleeve. That sleeve was for that particular after market filter.

Awesome video thanks bud. How’s the pilot holding up? Anymore long-crank startups after the new filter? Having the similar issues with my 07 Pilot. She nearing 200k
@ktecgarage
@ktecgarage 2 года назад
Ah. The Pilot. It's currently getting its transmission rebuilt. I did some other things like Seafoaming the intake and I found a loose spark plug. I also believe it has a leaky injector. It runs fine, but there is some fuel smelling smoke when it first starts. But, it was running fine until the tranny let go. It'll be put up for sale after I get that tranny rebuilt. I would have pulled the tranny and rebuilt it myself, but you really need a lift for that job Thanks for watching and commenting!

what is the brand name of the product you used? I am finding the filter online but not with the black sleeve that holds everything in place.

I don't believe it really had a brand name. It was a Chinese one from eBay. I guess I got lucky. Sorry!

hi, 1) Would you have the part number for the fuel filter sock in your video. 2) Did the car run better after you replaced the filter sock? Thank you for posting an excellent video

I'm sorry, but I didn't mention nor do I remember the part number. I got that kit from ebay. The car did run better but eventually blew a head gasket. Thanks for watching!

@@ktecgarage sorry I need to ask more questions. did you replace the fuel pump and filter sock or just the filter sock ?

The actual pump was working fine so I just changed the sock.

how long do you think the vehicle needs to sit to take the pressure off cause I just tried the pulling the fuse and cranking the car with the fuel cap off and like the kids say today that's all CAPP I still had high pressure
@andyhamilton8940
@andyhamilton8940 9 месяцев назад
Kelvin, pull the fuel pump fuse and crank the car up until it stalls(#1 fuse driver side floor) unscrew gas cap also to let vapor pressure off. Did this job today on same car! Make sure you press down on the pump when it hits the bottom of the tank. The top and bottom sections are spring loaded👍
@kelvinglenn1496
@kelvinglenn1496 9 месяцев назад
I tried that so what I turned out doing is letting it sit for about a hour with the fuel out and disconnected the connecter form the pump then with the line still connected I started to unscrew the cap to brake the seal (I do not recommend doing this even though it worked for me)@@andyhamilton8940

Is the fuel regulator on the fuel assembly or is it under the hood? About to replace the regulator/ filter on a 2012 Honda CRV
@ktecgarage
@ktecgarage 4 месяца назад
If I am not mistaken, the regulator is under the hood. It is on most of the Hondas of this vintage I have worked on.

@@ktecgarage ended up calling honda and they mentioned it was in the gas tank w/ the pump
@ktecgarage
@ktecgarage 4 месяца назад
Good to know. Thanks for adding that info. On the older ones, they are vacuum actuated.
@Technie87

@@ktecgarage Was chasing a positive fuel trim and had done smoke tests, etc to see if there was an air leak. Ended up rebuilding injector seals, intake manifold o-rings/ throttle body o-rings, replacing intake accordion tube, as well as replacing the fuel filter/ regulator and still have the positive fuel trim(+7%) with no noticeable vacuum leak or exhaust leak. At this point I believe it must be a worn engine as it has 137k on the clock. Posting this just in case anybody else finds a fix or common issue
@ktecgarage
@ktecgarage 4 месяца назад
@Technie87 Too much air. You know, I had an Element that was acting like that, and I got a junkyard throttle body and it fixed it. I replaced the throttle body on a 2000 Accord and it fixed that as well. I don't normally recommend firing the parts cannon, but after all that you described, I'd consider it.

I like how cheap you are and I can definitely see myself doing this to save a few bucks. But while you're already in there, why not just put in a new one and go another 200,000 mi and call it done? That's my mentality when I work on my cars

I hear you. If that fuel pump was harder to get to I probably would have switched it out. I once changed a clutch and didn't replace or resurface the flywheel! You think I would have learned my lesson that time.
