Honest Breakdown of Wakanda Forever, Crying For Likes, and The Murdaugh Murder Mystery 

i like when you guys do the critical movie reviews 'cause half the time when i watch these movies i'm like "that was good and fun!" and then i listen to the explanations of your complaints and i'm like "wait, they're actually right. i didn't consider/realize that"

I wasn’t a big fan of Black Panther 2 either but my mom’s side is Mayan from Yucatán seeing and hearding Mayan being spoken in a Hollywood movie was amazing. Mayans are always forgotten as people mainly think of Aztecs when it comes to indigenous people in Mexico. Although there are many other indigenous groups in Mexico and in South America that tend to be forgotten just seeing Mayans on the big screen and seeing how happy it made my mom and my grandma made the movie great for me.

I liked Black Panther 2: for two reasons. The first is that it is a way to introduce more cultures into the Marvel universe and having Namor be inspired by the MesoAmercian culture and legends was a lovely touch. And the second reason is that it did a good job of showing grief, feeling helpless, and being taken advantage of during your low point. Other than that, I felt at times lost during the movie. Agent Ross's scene with his ex can be explained if you ever watched Falcon & the Winter Soldier, but still, it seems like this is headed toward a way to integrate X-Men into the MCU as more "mutants" start popping up. But Thank you for your honest review of the movie David and Ed. It was actually pretty informative and really well explained as to why this movie lacks in comparison t the 1st movie. But I will leave you with this...Namor might actually overthrow Loki as my favorite Marvel character. :)

I disagree about Shuri, I felt they did a great job with her grief. But she also had to deal with Namor and his people. We see the anger, sadness, guilt, and lost faith with her throughout the film.

The part about the queen saving Riri I think that was more about her son’s philosophy of not being a kingdom that watches as people that look like you are mistreated and killed even if it serves to protect themselves because that was basically kill mongers origin story. Wakanda didn’t protect the rest of the world from colonization when they had the power too

Don’t mind if people don’t like it. From a culture perspective the pride in this movie made me tear up and not many movies have done that to this young man. Of course y’all are correct though. As a black person I enjoyed it more for the expression of culture form the funeral to the historical flash back. Outside of the it was meh with Suri as lead. I did like the twist that Killmonger appeared because “you didn’t even believe it would work so why would they come to you?” I liked that things didn’t just work because she was smart and she thought she knew it all.

crying then recording it is CRAZY. I do look at myself cry in the mirror to take me out of the situation though because I'm like ewwwww gross.

Man I can always listen to you guys’ reviews. So thorough and well thought it and conveyed. I love watching movies and giving my review but you guys convey it so well and always mention something that I’ve never thought of. Can’t wait till the next movie/tv review video!

Nahhhhh The well rounded black people aren’t going to care if you have various opinions about our culturally inspired films. Black Panther two was a tribute film to Chadwick and not much else. I liked the film’s villain and some of the action but it wasn’t as good as the first film. I never want people to feel like the HAVE to like everything black. That’s not necessary because we shouldn’t be looking for outward validation. I didn’t care if people liked the first film or not. I only cared that I liked it. Lol

Also the theory about Black Panther 2’s message was very correct. The film was even portrayed like Shuri and Amor liked each other a little bit. Amor was definitely giving that he was interested in Shuri but they had to fight each other.

Thank God for this review David! When it comes to the Black Panther 2 movie discussion online, it's like an echo chamber of denial that I was forcibly locked in. I felt like the 'Crazy Pills' Will Ferrell meme! I mean, don't get me wrong...I get why it'll be difficult to review a movie with such a major passing, but heck if it isn't refreshing to listen to a honest one.

I fully agree. The original plot was so much better. It was supposed to be a father son story. T'Challa got blipped out when Thanos snapped and Nakia was already pregnant with his baby. This film was supposed to take place almost right after endgame when everyone is back at the end and he had missed the first 5 years of his sons life.

I'll be honest, on first watch, the movie was a 10/10. But on my second and third watch, I'd give it a 7/10. I heard that on the editing floor, there were romance scenes between Shuri and Namor. It made me pause that Namor gave her his mother's bracelet so nonchalant. I hate that Angela Bassett died. I would agree that I don't think that her death really pushed her like they wanted it to. I also hate that Akoye wasn't able to prove herself to Queen Mother. So I know I am biased. But yeah. There were some holes

This one in particular has given me a different perspective on my original thoughts of the movie which I enjoy :) definitely agree about the poor quality of comedic relief, but had a bit of a giggle when Okoye said “popo” when the cops were at Riri’s garage 😂 still bawled my fawking eyes out and felt all the emotions, RIP Chadwick 🫶🏼

Even though I am not very critical of tv usually, I enjoy hearing reasons why others do. One thing I hate is bad storytelling and I agreed that lots of story was left out, the film making behind the scenes knowledge yall have is also super interesting. Good show (Wakanda Forever).

To be fair: both Shuri & Namor plans were terrible 😅. Like Namor wants the scientist not thinking that now that machine can be replicated by other engineers so he needs to kill more people than just Riri. And Shuri was so blinded by revenge, she stupidly brought the Wakandan army to the middle of ocean rather than just have a decoy. Both parties were flawed. Angela Bassett killed it in the film tho.

EEAAO is an amazing movie but I think you guys got it a little mixed up on the role Jackie Chan was offered, what I read and heard was that Michelle Yeoh's role was actually suppose to be for Jackie Chan but then they changed it to female character after hiring her and then created the Waymond character which of course was beautifully and masterfully portrayed by the talented Ke Huy Quan. Regardless, that still makes his story all the more wholesome and authentic and top it all off when you add his lovable personality, I love that he is now a part of the representation Asians have in Hollywood!

Ngl I wanna do a thing where I hold a sign and says “Wanna take a break from life?” And give them a day they will remember like a trip that day or when they’re available and just do fun shit together

I loved Wakanda Forever. I respect David and Ed’s opinions. I’m not an expert in film like they are. I’m just a watcher. I do like how they make you think about the holes in plots.

fantastic podcast as always! I will add though that, as someone who is Nigerian American, I totally get why here in America race is such a big deal. Yes, there is slavery genocide, and all types of atrocities that happen in other parts of the world, Nigeria included. I think the issue here in America is that this country was literally built on the horrors of these atrocities. Literally, America would not be what it is today without the raping and pillaging of black and indigenous people by white people especially. This country was built, torn down, and rebuilt on the bodies of our predecessors, unlike in other countries where there could be a coup or a change in regime that maybe could change things for the better. A way to have us play a positive role in our "come up". White people still control everything and they still think we are less then. This means we can't ever really have a "come up" we literally can't come back from it(for example like Korea has in the last 100 years or so ), you know, yeah. pretty morbid but true. like I get where you are coming from and, hey maybe I am looking at it from a biased point of view but it's how I have come to see it.

The Murdaugh murder mystery is probably as high profile as it is because the family comes from a rich, idyllic town, and holds quiet power in the neighborhood due to their family business (law). There is something fascinating about hearing horrid crimes being covered up due to influence, old money, and corruption. While it's not an original story because I'm sure it happens everywhere, it's sensationalized because this reflects a lot of what humans enjoy about drama series in general: money, power, dynasties, familial betrayal, murder, lies, and the fall of a powerful family. This kind of story would sell, and we're seeing it play in real time! All these true crime content creators were making posts about this case even when we didn't have the full story yet!

I've seen 2 of these drag videos where they seem to be overtly sexual in front of kids. And I gotta tell say they were deep fakes. if you pay attention no one is actually looking at te performer or reacting to them in anyway.

i cant in anyway find how this movie is objectively "bad." ofc it has it shortcomings like the pace, humor and riris purpose, but other than that its a great movie about grief, responsibility and forgiveness. that final fight, for as much as shuri shouldve lost from that stab through the spine, was all bout grit tbh. the fire and anger burning in shuri kept her pushing to beat namor damn near killing him by the end until her mother either symbolically OR literally from the ancestral plane tries one last time to steer her in the right direction and she spares him, wanting wakanda and talocan to at least be on good terms and not kill each other. that flashback shuri has of what talocan is and what wakanda is and noticing they damn near went through the same things and that killing namor would have the same effect on the people of talocan as it did when the wakandans lost king tchalla. thats why she ultimately spares him. not just that but she recites what her brother said to zemo in in civil war and spared HIM even tho he killed their father. shuri understood that she cant let her vengeance, grief and anger consume her, ultimately using her brother as her north star along with her mother. she spent so much of the last movie dismissing tradition and even in this movie as well when instead of seeing her brother or mother in the ancestral plane she see killmonger. she isnt like the rest of her family due to the cynicism and darkness within her but ultimately decides to follow in their footsteps. it also speaks volume on how she didnt choose to be queen by the end and ultimately kinda gave it to mbaku. she knew wasnt as noble as her brother or mother so she stepped down from that position which would rightfully be hers. letita wright and everyone in the cast killed their roles. ryan coogler is a great director and i really cant see how what supposedly "didnt work", didn't land for yall because it is a very well shot, written, acted and directed movie

I really loved Wakanda Forever but I do understand it had its flaws. As a brown native Mexican American it was so beautiful to finally get some brown skinned actors from Latin America (Mexico) and not white Latinos or light skinned Latino actors for once. And I am glad they showed Mayan representation so their community got some love. I believe Sheri decided to not kill Namor because Sheri was never a bad person. Due to grief of just loosing her whole family, revenge took over her heart. However, she realized this isn't who she truly is, she's heart broken and angry but she isn't this horrible person. So that is why I believe she changed her mind at the end to not kill Namor. Although I do agree with your other criticism and comments about the rest of her character in this film. I didn't like how becoming the Black Panther for .2 seconds she all of a sudden fought like as if she has been trained her whole life. Sheri wasn't a Wakanda warrior prior to this, she was their tech innovator basically in the lab while her brother before even becoming the Black Panther was a Wakanda warrior. Also David you are mixing the term racism and prejudice together. Racism is systemic , you can not separate the two. Racism was literally made by white people to hold power over POC. Racism isn't just calling someone a name, it includes the systematic and social oppression. While prejudice does not have to have or hold power or oppression. That is what those people on twitter were trying to say. You can not be racist towards a white person due to them literally inventing it and it was invented to hold power over POC to oppress us and make us less than.

So glad I am not the only one who didn't think this movie was that great! Still liked it buy I didn't get the hype behind it.

I'm sorry I'm reacting as I'm watch. I wanted to throw out there that I think Americans speak on race so much is because this government consistently sweeps its atrocious toward their minority citizens under the rug. We are gaslit and mistaught. Educational institutions, laws that are lobbied, Healthcare, etc etc etc. We know so plainly that there are these injustices that have happened and continue to happen, but because the system is set up to divide us, we're not able to come together and make those at the top do their jobs; work in the interest of the people.

BP 2 was just ok... nothing extraordinarily spectacular about it. I respect a candid review from the cinematography down to the acting. Open to all criticism, as long as it's done constructively.

The Murdaugh documentary I saw on Netflix shows previous crimes that took place, not just the recent murder trial that took place. Very eye opening on white privilege lol

1) the awesome human kindness guy you're talking about is Jimmy Dart. You guys should check out Scumbag Dad. He makes fun of influencers that make "human kindness" videos for the wrong reason by doing skits about it. It's hilarious! 2) I could not enjoy Wakanda Forever. They prefaced the movie by showing Avatar 2 trailer before the movie started and all I saw was the Avatar people. Especially in the final fight. The movie should've also been rated R. Not seeing blood when Shari was speared and when Neymar wings were crippled. It was soooo bad to see. It snapped me back to reality and i was like oh yeah. This is all fake. Instead of being immersed in the scene. Then when the queen died and Shari said to Neymar in anger. I was there when you killed my mother or something. When in reality she was on the ground fighting while her mom was in the palace. Like come on. Who edited this?! Lol

Wasn't a fan of Wakanda Forever. Should've recasted T'Challa. His story isn't even complete and now they've already killed him off. His story is over and we'll never know what his character could've been. You can recast T'Challa and still honor Chadwick. Missed opportunity. My biggest pet peeve with this film, and American comics do this all the time, find yourself a suit and you have combat skills all of sudden. I just can't stand this trope anymore in superhero films. Sorry but no way should Shuri be able to go toe to toe with Namor. I don't care if she got the power of the black panther. Namor has been alive for over half a millennium with extensive combat training. He should've smacked Shuri in an instant. Biggest offender of this was Riri. I don't care if she's a genius. No way should she be able to evade and take down Namor's people. Riri shouldn't last a second in that battle field. This was just one complaint. Movie was a big letdown once you get past the Chadwick Boseman tribute. Yes. If the Wakandans are that powerful and can take on an army of people who supposedly all have the power of Black Panther, then what's the point of the power of the black panther in Wakanda? If all wakandans are that strong already then there's no reason for the black rose. 5/10

You’re wrong in the fact that you said that talokas represent the latino community when it doesn’t. It represents the indigenous communities that still exist in the American continent. Latinos are the current day oppressors ( besides white people) with many examples and those same latinos that talk about how talokan is representing them are calling indigenous people indios, oaxaquitas, marias and etc. so its Native American representation not latino ( doesn’t matter if latinos have indigenous blood)
