i think it also has to do with library size. i want a giant library of movies. i want a new movie every night. but i have played the same games for 10 years. league, cs, minecraft, hearthstone autochess. i don’t want a giant library of games. i want to own the 6 games i’m actually going to play. when i bought mariokart and smash i knew i was gonna play them for years. i don’t need every game out there the way i want every movie out there. netflix feels like a deal bc i’m paying 10 for thousands of movies. i don’t wanna pay 10 for 6 games a month

Not to mention the fact that having a game pass is worth less to you because you are a PC gamer with a switch (I assume). When I go to my phone, computer and TV Netflix is there. If I get game pass, it's on my Xbox, not my PC and my switch. Even Microsoft's own game pass is split between PC and Xbox which makes it so much less valuable to me.
@ghdshds1899
@ghdshds1899 5 месяцев назад
don't you think thats partly because you are people are so used to the "buy the game, gotta get my moneys worth" kind of model? I'm sure many people felt similarly about movies before renting and netflix became a thing. you cant deny how much more accessible new titles and genres become when you have instant access to hundreds of games. maybe if you could just try the full version of one of a few hundred games, without needing to drop 20 bucks each time, you'd find more than just 6 games that you want to play that you would have never otherwise tried

@@ghdshds1899 yeah nah bro, I got a massive backlog, but looking at my track record I might complete like 4-5 games a year plus one replay of something older (Like Stalker, Metro, Gothic, Mafia 1 or 2). I'm talking with my friends and they are similar. I know this is a bubble I'm talking about, but this bubble is tech bro gamers (but somewhat functioning outside of gaming and work). Only student gamers, neets and streamers are supposed to play more than Us. We talk about a new game and plan how we are so going to play it next year etc.
@jimshoes
@jimshoes 5 месяцев назад
@@ghdshds1899 so many games are free. and yet i keep going back to the same games. i keep spending money on those games too. I think that after I finish a movie I instantly want to get a new movie and dont care about the last one, but after I finish a league game or a cs game, or a hearthstone game, i want to play more of that same game, not find something new.

Those 3 tags are absolutely the first step of my screening process for anything on Netflix. If they pique my interest then I'll check out the movie reviews and ratings, otherwise why bother. It doesn't matter how "good" a film is if it's not the form of entertainment I'm in the mood for

Something that a game streaming service over traditional services is it's value. A game itself has way more time to be played and enjoyed in most circumstances then a TV show, which you might only once on a show. The value of buying a game means you can play it several times makes the idea of wanting to buy it far more enticing of a prospect. This isn't even mentioning streaming games have a massive issue with input delay, which will be virtually impossible to solve unless it's on the device itself.
@TheMarslMcFly
@TheMarslMcFly 5 месяцев назад
Imma be real, I've been streaming Forza Horizon 5 for over a year now cause it runs like shit on my old ass XBox One. I hardly ever have any input delay. If anything it super rarely happens that the connection or whatever gets a bit wobbly so I can't steer where I want to steer, but that always resolves itself in a matter of moments.

@assiuq
@assiuq 5 месяцев назад
I have used the free Geforce Now a few times to play The Witcher 3, and the input delay wasn't even noticeable. Sure, the difference could be a big deal for rhythm or competitive games, but calling it a "massive issue" is just not true
@ghdshds1899
@ghdshds1899 5 месяцев назад
@@lucasmcnamee3658 thats a pretty silly example to make. yeah if you are just going to buy one game for the rest of your life just buy the game. but for $100 a year you arent just getting that single game, you are getting hundreds and many more to come.

Regarding the tags for RU-vid comments topic: I recognized that some youtubers just put "(Movie)" behind video titles of long videos, which provokes a similiar kind of positive reinforcement. Especially if the video will be long and time consuming. Thought it would be interesting to point that out.

Buying video games has incredible value in a cost per hour basis. I've played 300 hours of Factorio after only spending $30 on it. That's $0.10 per hour a stat movies or any physical service can't even get close to.

I think that eventually more people, specifically of gen alpha and beyond will be more use to game pass like services, as most of us who are grown adults don't have much of a use for something like game pass because our libraries are already full of most of the games that we like. Someone who doesn't have a real income and is just starting to enjoy games (kids) will likely get a lot more value out of these services than someone with 500+ games in their steam library. My girlfriend wasn't ever really a big gamer until we started dating, so I got her gamepass so she could experiment with different games. It's been great for her to find out what types of games she likes because there's no loss if you don't like a game, just uninstall it.

He might have talked about this at some point in the past, but why has music streaming not had the same downfall as movie/tv streaming? I'm fearful for the day that Spotify and Apple Music start to lose their catalogues. $10/mo for nearly every song I could ever want to stream is insane. I can yar har yo ho for video content, but music is so much more difficult to do that with.
@georgeporter1836
@georgeporter1836 5 месяцев назад
maybe because pirating and regularly using pirated music is so much easier than films? i’m not sure but i feel like if anything streaming helps promote a wider variety of music to listeners where pirating/buying doesn’t, which in turn helps promote the merch and concert side which is where the most money is made for artists. i can’t be bothered to rewrite my comment but now i’m here i’m almost certain it’s down to the fact that most of the money is in tours/merch and not streaming, it’s almost like free advertising

it’s hard for studios to stream their own music so the platforms provide a lot of relative value
@Galaron100
@Galaron100 5 месяцев назад
Music is (although big studios do own a significant chunk) pretty decentralized. This means that there isn't any HBO, there is no Disney of music. At any time one random korean man in his 40s can launch Gangnam Style 2 and dominate the charts, although it will probably be a random white girl nepobaby from the US with the big studios behind her. This basically means that there is very little negotiating power for different creators. Organizing hundreds of thousands of musicians and their demands would make any company/organization bankrupt before they even tried to negotiate with Spotify. Also, compared to movies and even games, the music industry is the one in which the authors are in most control of the profits of their product. As much as you see some musicians complain, they get paid pretty well. Their earnings also go up the more their stuff is heard, which helps to keep big players content and not looking for a better deal outside Spotify or Apple Music.
@MindBlowerWTF
@MindBlowerWTF 5 месяцев назад
I watch movies on my PC, so I can have one library, locally, but I listen to my music on like 4 devices, different OSes, different types of devices. Having a proper library of music that syncs across takes some time to setup and then You can't add new media easily with few clicks/taps on every device. 10$ so my whole family has access to whatever they like is easily justified. But it is probably just a matter of time for music services to turn predatory on customers.

transition to game pass/similar services has on other significant difference than cable to netflix. Cable was a service that people were used to pay to keep using and offered the access to the shows. Gamers are used to pay one time and own a game forever, so making them switch to a service that only gives them access to the games is much harder.

SOMEONE LET ME KNOW!? How can you say you've never really thought about the importance of like "Genre labels Atrioc? Don't all videos that go up have Hashtags that essentially do the exact same thing, that basically give 1 word breakdowns or reviews of the style of video your going to see? Or is that not important at all anymore? I remember seeing a Ludwig video AWHILE BACK where he said he had a convo with Alpharad, and Alpha told Ludwig, that those hashtags were now even more important than like the video title now for visibility purposes or something like that? I dunno maybe I'm like 2 years late on that whole thing and hashtags mean nothing now?

I get recommended so many video essays. Rarely watch. But sometimes one just tickles your brain the right way, akin to how other forms of art can. Still, mostly garbage. Like most media. Doesn't prevent me from enjoying a good show or a good game. It's maybe a little sad, but I feel like I'm past the stage of hate (though I assume you're mostly joking).

I really don't get it, but i guess some people just want an oversized video of some guy ranting to put on to be lazy on a Sunday

@uiytt8497
@uiytt8497 5 месяцев назад
The reason why people switched to streaming is because cable sucked and Netflix and Hulu at that time has everything so it was an easy switch and a better service because you weren't locked in qnd you couldn't watch on demand content without recording it before and it had ads. Game pass has never been as good as easy to transition to as Netflix in 2015 and it never will be because all of the game publishers are trying to make their own pass. This means that game subscriptions will basically be starting in the place that streaming is right now. Unless Xbox and PlayStation really push hardware without disk drives this will not be happening. me too can be smart :')

I really passionately dislike Netflix, but I gotta give them Cobra Kai was good...-ish. Also Red Notice, that one Heist movie with The Rock, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot, genuinely was good in a fun-bad kinda way. Like, there's literally a scene where the helicopter Ryan and Rock are inside gets shot at with a bazooka. The one door already is open after Rock did the leap of faith and just barely managed to hang on. So to not get shot down he just yanks open the door on the other side so the bazooka just so flies straight through the helicopter. It's fucking awesome lmao. Oh, and Gal Gadot fries Rocks balls with a car battery, and he clearly is into it.

Pretty sure Cobra Kai as a show started off being a RU-vid Red production , Netflix acquired the ip after a season or two . Stuff that You’d like , as a consumer do release on streaming services but they get buried in the catalogue . Also the fact that consumer loyalty is in decline they’ve shifted focus of the conversation / marketing on their side from it as a service to mainly look what’s streaming this quarter of the year

I honestly think ( my own opinion) we are not done with the topic of "netflix of gaming". As you said there is not the same ammount of insentive like there was with netflix back then ( aka tv was shit and Netflix had everything for 7 bucks) but with the rise of new games going for more then 40-60 Dollers and the rise of komplexity in some games maybe there is a market for "play it all for 6 months for less money then buying one big game" Ofc this depends on many factors like how well cheaper games or indi games are gonna do But still I think there may be more chances for the "Netflix of gaming" to arise especially if the competition currently ends with a clear cut winner in market share Edit: ofc there is also the fact that companies want you to not really own a game even after you bought it for full price so maybe the difference in buying it full price and getting it trough a gamepass will become smaller and smaller in the future
