There is just one legendary Pokemon left. It can learn every TM, it's the one Mewtwo was cloned from, but can it beat Red/Blue in the least amount of time?
It’s easier to beat this game with a tadpole known for being just barely able to walk than it is to beat this game with a literal mythological Phoenix.
19:50 that Nidoran will, like his cousin, will always talk about the day a Mew ran away from him. Though they will forever argue which is stronger, Mew or Mewtwo.
Rival Fival gets a lot of popularity, but no one ever mentions Rival one point Fival. May be optional, but is still cool. It's the only time you get to see his pidgey!
As I’ve watched this series progress, one thing I want to call out is the shift towards showing defeats, or showing multiple battles, like with Blaine here. When revisiting some of the first videos, it jumps out that we don’t get to see this stuff, and it makes the videos less exciting. It seems like your style is really evolving (pun not intended) as you put these together. Old Jrose is a lot more matter-of-fact, data-driven and “objective”. Now, we get silly recurring jokes and get to hear your excitement and disappointment at success and failure. I don’t know if you’ve noticed the change, but I want to encourage you to stick with it! As much as the old videos are great, the path to 200k is probably easier as you start to come out of your shell and “be yourself “ in these videos. And for the viewers, it’s actually a lot of fun to see it happening, too.
I think there's a bit of a balancing act in that though. Not to be that guy, I think that showing some of the defeats are great, but the videos were really creeping up in length. Showing more of the defeats is great, but I think spending 30 minutes on 5 battles sometimes can get a bit repetitive, especially with over 40 runs left to go. I 100% agree that your videos have evolved even since you started this series and it's been awesome to watch, but I'd definitely look at trying to balance the Elite 4 a bit more.
I've been thinking this same thing. Surely not everyone likes the same things, but I enjoy seeing the struggles of the pokemon more than only being told and given times.
Yeah, maybe a good idea would be showing all the defeats, but not starting over from the beginning for every run. Like, show all the Agatha deaths, but then cut out all the Lorelei and Bruno fights.
So this might sound like a bizarre challenge, but I've been thinking about it for the past few days: A run where you are your rival, essentially -- only using the Pokemon and movesets that your rival uses through the game, leveled up to the various points where you encounter him, to see if he's really Champion material. Obviously there are some problems inherent to pulling that off, namely HMs and the fact that his Exeggutor knows fewer moves than his Exeggcute, so it might require more extensive Gameshark usage. Plus the Kadabra evolving into Alakazam, that'd require either another game or a cheat to make it evolve without trading. But I think it would be an interesting challenge regardless.
I may or may not have gotten people talking about HM only Pokemon, I do alot of no capture challenges on Twitch and you are correct, they are not fun when you need the HM's.
1:23 "But the *most* important reason I call him rival 1a is because we must not throw off the numbers and create a new rival fival. Rival fival must always be in the same place and must always be number five...al."
The Mew run just goes to show how important a vast movepool is, as well as good stats. On the “have to go slower because of no Dig” issue, you could have gotten an Abra from the Game Corner. They’re cheap so you wouldn’t have to grind money ( in fact you could gather the coins you needed off the floor, but that would probably be too slow). The quick detour to buy one would easily be made up in being able to teleport out of Gyms/dungeons.
If it wasn't for Mew's move pool having a slow start at the beginning of the game, I think Mew would've actually been better than Mewtwo, but it seems like the rest of the run was practically smooth sailing, after that initial victory against Brock. I'm glad that you were able to show us these kinds of runs with legendary/mythical Pokémon (Mew is technically a mythical Pokémon, not legendary). It also goes to show that while these Pokémon are a little stronger than most Pokémon, they're not invincible, and even they can struggle against certain other Pokémon, too.
Honestly, same here, in fact, I've been going to sleep to his vids to see which one I wake up on, I think tonight I'm going to sleep on Pidgey, I'll try to remember to edit and see what I wake up on! I woke up on Zapdos, about half way through
@@nerdstop5025 sadly I cannot try this out. I'm sure there is a setting I can change but right now if I start a Playlist when it gets to the beginning of the 4th video it will pause and ask me if I'd like to continue watching, and if I'm asleep I can't answer so it'll just stay paused there.
Opinion: Jrose is the only RU-vidr who makes these runs interesting Edit: Not meaning to bash other youtubers but jrose gets very technical and understands every aspect of the game he is playing and I just happen to really like his commentary. The tier list thing is also really fun.
@@bakes1324 he does some pokemon runs on his second channel as well. Which has an almost daily upload schedule. Not sure if he has any current ongoing.
Seel could be an interesting run, it starts with only headbutt and doesn't learn any move via levelup until growl at lv30 and aurora beam at lv35. Brock is going to be pure pain cause you can't even counter onix's bide. It does learn ice beam at lv50 and has access to some good tm moves, so the mid-endgame is going to be easier.
Headbutt causes flinching and right after Brock you can get the TM for water gun (first floor of mount moon) so you can go through mount moon with a STAB water move
A very fun finale to the legendary series. I'm excited to see what you have lined up for us next now that it's over though! From how you were phrasing it at the end of the video, it seems like you've been working on something quite interesting!
I would like to take this moment to tell you that I and three rest of the community appreciate you. I’ll update this comment later with my thoughts on the video. Edit: I was frankly super surprised at how good Mew was! It really came back in the end. Your blunder with Erika was pretty funny, as well as your copious amount of resets. These legendary Pokémon have been really fun to look at!
@@nerdstop5025 lol once you get all the necessary badges for HMs it's very easy to forget about certain gym leaders. Makes it very possible to wait a long time to do some gym leaders.
Why were you surprised by how good Mew was? It's one of the best Pokemon of all time. Great stats. Very bulky. Powerful mixed attacker. The most versatile Pokemon of all time. It can serve literally any function on any team and be one of the at doing said function. Want a sweeper? It can have set-up moves, have a move that attacks on the special or physical side to surprise your opponent, run recovery and be very bulky as well. The only small negative Mew has is that it 'only' has 100 base speed which means it ties a lot of threats. So it usually want speed investment. If it had even just 105 base speed it would be a lot better. But then if wouldn't have the 600 BST of Mythical Pokemon. Still, Mew is nearly a perfect Pokemon.
Robert Williamson It’s less that it’s versatile and more that in the early game it’s moves are awful. It’s stats are great. Of course they are, it’s a mythical Pokémon. I expected it to make up time, but not as much as it did
Dear Jrose. Just commenting to see if you're still well. We can only assume you are doing a Weedle run right now and are losing your sanity. Don't. Sanity is very important. And just because a string of luck necessary is theoretically possible doesn't mean that it is possible in the game, simple by the limitations random numbers are generated within the code.
It’s cool to see a Mew run. I think it would have been interesting to have the rival with Blastoise since it’s the most bulky, and would’ve definitely changed the strategy for Mew. Maybe it would’ve been a more special Mew than physical, but it’s cool to see a more physical set. I can’t wait to see more of the lesser used Pokémon like shellder and cubone.
Venusaur is actually bulkier, but no matter what type the rivals starter is, mew can learn coverage for all of them. Against venusaur mew can use its stab move though, so that makes it slightly better to be matched against (in mew's favor). It wouldn't have made a difference which starter he was paired up against and he even explains why he wanted charizard.
ArtisChronicles I get that Mew would have coverage for all the starters, but he would have to make Mew more special based than physical, but I like that he used a physical set. Also, adding the base defensive stats of hp, defense, and special, Blastoise has 264 while Venasaur has 263 then adding weaknesses, Blastoise has less so its Bulk is more reliable since you have more switching opportunities. So that’s why Blastoise is the bulkiest starter of the three, and that obviously translates later do to its higher sp def in other Gens.
I love this series and put on these videos to listen to even when I'm just doing random stuff around the house. I'm really grateful I found your channel and that you've already done so many of these. Please do Zubat soon, and I'd also be really interested in seeing what kind of strategies you'd use in a Shedinja only run of any game!
I got the feeling, while watching this, that mew is leagues more consistent than any other pokemon you've tried this challenge with. Still love the series. You, along with Johnstone, might be my favorite entertainers of the moment. Your content is genuinely helping me go through a tough moment in my life. Might not be much, and I know I must not idealize the person behind the content, but I wanted you to know that your high-quality work is actually helpful to some people.
@Greko You know, you're watching a video then a notification comes up, so you pause the video you're on, watch the new one because it's more interesting, then another notification comes up and it's Jrose, so you watch it full screen until conclusion. Do you even RU-vid bro?
Personally I think he could have saved them, spread them out a bit. But if he needs them to avoid burnout then that's the price we pay. It sounds like the next videos are true pain incarnate
When doing these challenges I usually catch spearrow in the area by rival 1a or just before mount moon. I then trade it for farfetchd who can learn cut and fly. Then I get lapras for surf/strength
Yay! Thank u for uploading every week 🙂 I love ur videos and I genuinely look forward to them every week! Just don't wear yourself out! Coz I can't imagine all the work that goes into these! It's greatly appreciated though. Love from Scotland xx
Hey man just wanted to make sure I comment how much I love your videos. They are so entertaining and I look forward to them every time they come out. Please just keep being you and making awesome videos
I feel like jrose needs a (badge) boost, mentally that is. Hope he didn't break himself for our entertainment. Either way, wish you the best, you seem like a great guy!
Awesome Video! I saw a Pokémon Gold minimum battles the other day and it reminded me about them. You should continue the series into further generations!
I’m rewatching this, and you barely used Dig anyway. So really, had you gotten a Paras for digging as usual, I don’t think that would have really changed your time much at all and you would have had access to dig for longer.
Since you did all the legendaries, I think it'd be a good idea to go for the pseudo-legendary Dragonite and make a comparision. Also, it has an interesting learnpool for gen I :).
26:40 I did the Math, Earthquake had a range of 105.5 - 124.4% and Psychic had 124.4 - 148%. So the STAB Bonus outweighs the high special. Against Gengar the Difference is smaller, but psychic is still ahead by roughly 8%
You were absolutely right for Earthquake against Agatha, by the way. This was a great run with my favorite Pokemon in terms of gameplay. Mew is so bloody fun. Thank you so much for this. Your runs are always a great watch.
i'm beginning to fear weedle just wasn't possible even at lv 100 and now he's trying a new pokémon like i'll happily take any video just let us know you're still here
I really wouldn't mind a video where he can't beat the game. I mean with Weedle I just don't think it's possible without items. I hope he isn't ashamed to post himself losing.
Apparently, someone did the math and determined that Weedle literally don't have enough Poison Sting PP to fight Agasa's Gengar. The only way to defeat it would be for Weedle to land a crit every hit, and even then, Agasa has 4 Mons that quad resist poison, making her impossible to get through even with the best possible luck
as someone who wants to speedrun this game and knows the route pretty well, i was wondering why you didnt go for horn drill + x acc but i forgot that this challenge has no items in battle
Hey, just wondering if you’ve given up on the catch em all series or if the gen 5 video is in the works. That’s probably my favorite series on your channel.
I'm sorry to be the Bringer of bad news but he has spoken about not doing the series anymore since another youtuber (John Stone) had done em too. his videos are pretty good too though :)
You have just the best way of talking i love the strategy talk you give. You're just the best I stop by every video thank you for gifting your time to us
YESS THE ONE I WAS WAITING FOR!, honestly thank you for these jrose i see a lot of people doing pokemon runs and you are the only one i can watch all the way through without being bored. definitely the best and most entertaining player, want to see more emerald/ruby!
shouuld have just mixed a move up with rock slide after lorelei like had a water attack for bruno then switched to some other tm im sure there was a few to keep time about the same and even save some by doing it!
It's over 2 weeks already. If not counting bonus runs it's like 2 months? It's either Weedle or he abandoned series, just like kakuna rattata [*] Eventually something happened in his private life and he couldn't be making any runs. And if it's not the Weedle run, then I doubt there will be ever a Weedle run, because Weedle run will definitely be the worst one.
I laugh so much at "THIS TIME LOSS IS UNACCEPTABLE" when you use an extra turn, but then there's clip after clip after clip of bouncing into walls, overshooting doors, clicking the wrong menu choice, etc etc from the sped-up gameplay. It makes me giggle a bit. I remember lots of times when I'd play on Emu and use the speed up feature and end up overshooting my destination like 5 times and it would've been legitimately quicker to just walk there normally. So often.
first of all great video, as always! I always look forward to your videos I'm not sure why you haven't uploaded anything in August but its a bit sad that you mention at the end of this video about focussing on impossible and difficult challenges in august and then upload nothing for the whole month.
22:18 You sneaky Sneasel, you put an ad here so that your pronunciation of Lorelei would be broken and we would forget 🤣 Also Lorelei is not the ice type _gym leader_ :P
I think putting Mew above the birds was a good choice, especially when you consider that if you did Erika when you normally do instead of as the 7th gym, you would have saved a minute or two, therefore making it the faster of the 4 anyway. Great video as always bro, seriously can't wait to see more! (cough Magmar cough)
