Yeah, this is the meme run. Purely because he didn't use Rare Candies (personally I so would've right after the second loss to Bruno), but it became the meme run no matter how well Zapdos fares in the tier list in the end.
@@authenticcyph6450 Well yeah but seriously most of pokemon can be swept if you just add another 9 or so levels. I mean there is a reason pretty much every pokemon can beat the game solo without items. A lot of it has to do with fact the highest level pokemon in the game are usually in the 50-60's and you can level up to be 100.
This is extremely late but if you compare all the NPC trainers and have them vs each other. Bruno can beat basically everyone in the game and comes out to third place. It surprised me tbh
@@nustacular dude pimanrules measured the npcs in his video, lorelei and bruno didn't get higher that sabrina. If bruno can beat basically anyone, sabrina can reliably do it better and faster.
The irony is that Rage is the only reason he’s beatable. Almost any other attacking move would make Onyx impossible to beat without a ton of levels. Imagine if it had rock slide
@Evil team leader Maxie Read Chad's comment again: "It goes through Accuracy checks" as in "it does NOT bypass Accuracy checks". It *IS* a 100% accuracy move in Gen 1/2. Gen 3 is when it bypasses the check. PS: The 1/256 glitch actually works on *all* moves of 100% accuracy *or less*, you just wouldn't ever know if it triggered or not without the use of hacking to see the value of the check. It effectively makes all moves that check for Accuracy just have an extra 1/256 (0.390625%) chance of missing.
Silphspectre: Bruno is one of the most powerful trainers in Kanto! Jrose11: So in the first time in like...ever, Bruno actually won for once in his life.
The Problem is mosty his Pokemons movesets in R/B are shitty. (Dont woosh me I understand the Joke, maybe it was a good person to be not become overconvident?^^")
A parallel run with two Pokémon - one with perfect DVs and one with 0 DVs would be really interesting, just to see how differently the game would go and the effective level difference between the two.
No matter how well this run may go, it will always be known as the one where Bruno won not once, but twice. Edit: He lost THREE TIMES. This is Bruno's story.
Loreli : You never even beat anyone with only one pokémon? I saw a lot of them. The guy with Gastly? The one with his one Dratini? Diglett... ? Bruno: Well, once I did get a win by defeating someones Legendary bird... Loreli: 😲 Oh!
You should def do a special episode in the style of Paradox-Billiards-Vostroyan-Roulette-Fourth-Dimensional-Hypercube-Chess-Strip Poker but with Pokémon instead of yugioh. Then maybe a MTG one as well. GLORY TO THE MOST HOLY MANPEROR!
You calling the Badge Boost Glitch the Badge Boost "feature" reminds me so much of Vine Sauce Joel's "It's a Feature" moment from his Rollercoaster Tycoon video.
your content is perfect for before sleeping, its one of those things u dont need to pay 100% attention and at the same time its interesting. im sure im not the only one using your videos to sleep haha, keep on the classics first and 2nd gens challenges they hit right on the nostalgia
@gerald martinez i cannot say "coff coff" cause you're saying there is a correct way to say it and it's the way i'v seen less..just huh ok btw if you're talking only about jrose run the thing is Zapdos have a better time at the end and that's what matter. Also dont be so toxic i wasn't meant to offend you anyway, sorry if i like more Zapdos and you like more Articuno lol
It's so amazing to look at the tier list and see Gastly in the same tier as TWO legendary Pokemon! Can't wait to see what the rest of the series has to offer!
im smiling so much, since the solo series started ive been rooting for bruno to take at least one solid victory and finally my boy has done it im so proud
Here it's 2:30 AM, Italy, Rainstorm with thunders and continuous lightnings, shutters not closed and things banging outside. Help me, it's a weird moment now, and also it's a sad period, btw, let'start this epic video
I like the fact that this guy has some serious motivation to play an old game, know everything about it and tell us some things that we might not know. This is worth a sub seeing the time limit, even sped up. How you get the motivation to keep doing this, I don't know, jrose.
Based on the number of repeats (and apparent luck) involved even at the end, I think Articuno still looked better across the run - so I was really shocked by it Zapdos beating Articuno in your ranking. I’d have thought the several losses to Bruno would have balanced the 2 minute overall difference.
The amount of loses were his fault (from what I could see he didn’t use the rare candies like he normally would). At least it didn’t struggle with the early gym leaders. The others struggled early zapdos struggled late, saying it’s unfair it wasn’t placed lower at all for struggling is stupid considering arti struggled at some points too. Both struggled, fair is fair, it got a faster time thus it won.
When you lost to Bruno the first time i was like no biggie, just a mistake. When it happened the second time i was like wait... but to end up as the 2nd fastest run this was another great watch and turned out epic asf.
Making a prediction right now: If you play a Mew solo run, Mew will have your best run. Outside of a bit of a struggle with Brock, he will learn bubblebeam, body slam, and thunderbolt by end of gym 3. Also, Mew is in the medium-slow experience tier, while all the legends are in the slow experience tier, so it will at a higher level throughout the game compared to the other legendaries.
>Oh hey, he finally completes the trio. Surely Zapdos should be the fastest, since it's an OU god >Video is an hour long Welp. This'll be an interesting watch.
It was interesting that in the end it has similar time and level to Articuno and it's in RU. Huh. And Moltres is high up but because it has only Ember early on it underperformed quite a lot.
@yossarian Even with Drill Peck Moltres is still having a really hard time against Lance and the level it required to win would only be marginally lower, it definitely wouldn't be coming close to finishing faster than the other two birds.
@@illusionofquality979 That's just how a metagame works. Zapdos was basically brick walled by the same thing that walls it in competitive: Ground/Rock types like Rhydon (and in this case, also Onix). It just has no effective means of dealing with it and when you're forced to rely on crits and bad AI to get past, you're going to lose time.
Just wanted to thank you for going through the effort to release interesting and engaging content! Been following you for years and I'm glad to see that you're getting the recognition you deserve!
Yeah all things considered it is really hard to figure which one is just plain "Better" because of how long he was trying to stick to the no Rare Candies variant. I think it could go either way but IMO Articuno deserves the higher spot for not struggling against trainers that normally you don't struggle against.
@@kazikek2674 Everyone will struggle against different things due to typing. Thats not an excuse to put it lower. Zapdos is arguable the better one of the trio, and it’s time was faster. It clearly didn’t struggle as much as you think if it finished first.
there was something about the sprites in this game that had so much impact when facing the elite four. combine that with the music change during the champion battle, and I had those big arcanine and exeggutor sprites showing up in my dreams. playing through and beating the elite 4 for the first time when I was in 1st grade was an arduous task with six pokemon, let alone a single pokemon with no saves between. watching this play through brought back some emotions back, thanks for that man. you don't really feel it the same way once you know everything about the game, so a handicap like this is the perfect thing to satisfy the nostalgia.
My guess is that mew is worse than mewtwo but better than zapdos. It is going to struggle against brock since it only knows pound and transform by then, but once he progresses through the game it gets easier and easier since mew can learn every tm in the game.
Mew will struggle against Brock but can deal easily with pretty much every trainers before the Elite 4 due to its movepool, with access to Mega Punch and Dig in the early game, then Ice Beam, Psychic and Thunderbolt before the fourth gym. However, a special Mew would just be significantly worse than Mewtwo due to having a similar movepool with a lower special. Mew gets two advantages over Mewtwo in RBY : its access to Softboiled and a way better physical movepool with access to Sword Dance, Earthquake, Rock Slide or Hyper Beam. A physical or a mixed Mew could be interesting to see.
I just realized that the last bit of each of the legendary birds' names goes uno, dos, tres (1,2,3) which follows their order in the Pokedex. Took Jrose's player names to figure that one out
If you think Brock was tough here just imagine how insane he'd be in the remakes knowing Onix has Rock Tomb and Zapdos starts with Peck instead of Drill Peck.
Just made my night with this 🤩 Have to be up at 6am Needed something to pass out too These videos are perfect too wind down too at the end of the night 🙂 You’re a legend
@@MrEnte3000 Nothing? Have you seen the pointy plumage and crazy crests on some irl birds? I also used to think Zapdos was just an electric spark with a face so I started to wonder how it could fly, so I looked into it and learned all about bird feathers, and I was _shocked_ to discover that there were birds with wild feathers like that irl!
@@mayaartsy9919 The plumage of the harpy eagle and Phillipine eagle do kind of resemble that of Zapdos, and it makes sense for a Legendary Bird to be part eagle since the the mythological half of Zapdos's inspiration, the thunderbird, is an eagle, and because woodpeckers such as the yellow-crested woodpecker that Zapdos also resembles are kind of small for "god birds".
Honestly, considering how much you struggled on thic run (not just on the elite 4) compared to Articuno and given the fact that Articuno was paired against the water starter which he is actively bad against AND it still being at the lower level than Zapdos with only 2 minutes of a time difference, I really feel like Articuno deserves its second place.
I work in a healthcare/insurance field. "DOS" being an abbreviation for "date of service" had me confused as hell for the first fifteen minutes of this video. Wondering why anyone would name their character basically "Date of Service." It's one of those days.......
Nobody: Me and my friends watching this: On this monumental day the legendary Jrose11 has lost to the one called Bruno. This marks the start of a new era.... The Bruno era...
Would love to see a Mew-only run, as in ONLY Mew. It’s the only Pokémon in the game for which this is possible. Hope you like HM moves! (Edit: Some have pointed out this is possible with Krabby and Lickitung, which is technically true but since they don’t learn Fly and have terrible stats and worse typing, it would just make the run awful).
@@indigoice9516 and you didnt understand me, its not your fault, the blame is mine for not writting english very well, the only HM moves you need to beat the game are Cut strength and surf, of course Mew, Krabby and lickitung can learn, so you can beat red and blue with this three pokemon without HM slaves
Was grinding whismur for an alpha sapphire prof. Oak challenge and got a shiny while watching this. You may have lost to giovanni, but that shiny whismur shall be dedicated to you.
I'll be 30 years old in about 30 minutes, and I'm still a huge fan of pokemon. I've found myself watching your videos every night on my way home from work. I love your content and just your upbeat attitude. Keep it up. Sub for life.
This video just goes to show that neither Giovanni nor Bruno are actually terrible trainers in gen 1 but rather that their types are simply imbalanced, both in terms of available moves, type coverage and of course type weaknesses. However when they end up being in favorable matchups(which are admittedly quite rare for them) like Zapdos, than they absolutely can wreak some havoc. I mean sure their move sets are far from ideal but than neither is Agatha's for example(having Dreameater but no way to actually cause sleep) yet she's still a very powerful trainer in spite of that.
Oh hell yeah. That's my boy Zapdos! P.S. I love these challenges so got damn much. You and Pikasprey are hands down my favorite Poke-tubers. Keep at it my dude 'cause I love em.
I would love to see a retry count so we can see how much you had to reset in every challenge run. =) It would make the Pokemon Ranking more interesting.
All these comments talking about how Jrose rushed the intro to make the video an even 1 hour, but nobody seems to notice how he rushed the outro as well.
It may be interesting to see which Eeveeloution is best in gen 1. Though I am eager to see Venonat since I have been playing Crystal with it on my team.
It's always astounding to me how pokemon has stayed the same for so long I mean, this is the first ever game, noone knew what a pokemon even was when it came out but it just nailed the formula and it's stuck around and became a household name. Not a lot of other games that came out back then can say the same.
Yaaaaas, knew my six year old self chose well when he accidentally stumbled upon zapdos first, thought he was cool, panicked and threw a master ball. Best legendary bird
