My top tips for changing limiting beliefs:
1) Identify the belief.
2) Know that changing your beliefs IS possible.
3) Get curious about that belief- explore where its come from.
4) Take responsibility in making changing and get pro-active in doing so:
-Change your actions
-Change your self-conversation
-Surround yourself with people who share the new, empowering beliefs you are developing
-Ask for support and talk it through.

Hi Emily! I would be happy to hear about post-recovery related things as it's always exciting and encouraging to see what life can truly be like/how it can change through full recovery. Also so cool how the same tools used to change beliefs in recovery can translate into other facets of life. Something I've noticed lately is that there are so many tools and skills I've learned in recovery that I can see will be valuable to my whole life even outside of ED related things.

I’d like to hear your entire story- and how changing beliefs or telling yourself weight and food suppression don’t have a place in a world where the reality is we are inundated with the opposite.

What I find so so difficult and the thing that gets me a lot is that a lot of beliefs and behaviours one is doing are things that are promoted, encouraged and even said, to be vital for health by society/the government/the majority of people (to some degree). It is really hard, for example, to believe that one is doing the right thing by eating 3 donuts in a row when 95% of the messages we're surrounded by state this is harmful to health?! Obviously the needs of everybody are different and what is healthy for one can look vastly different to another, but the overarching societal soundtrack atm seems to definitely be very singular (ie. Geared towards someone at high risk of type 2 diabetes or heart disease &/or other life limiting/ending health problems). The extreme end of a very wide spectrum. So that, rather than acknowledging the hugely differing mental, physical, and cultural circumstances of all the population receiving such singular and consistent information, there is a big bias towards this one perspective (sorry- probably very obvious statements im making!). When you're already so afraid and uncertain of your own mind/needs/instincts etc and the fear & established (often trauma induced) beliefs are raging, to have so much external judgement and 'evidence' and/or opinion agreeing with one's disordered compulsions & thoughts is incredibly hard to defy. I know it is so so vital to opposite action but when one's own self esteem, trust and worth are so diminished have you advice about how to find greater resilience to self destructive/programmed compulsions and beliefs and overcome such fierce doubts (when they feel so valid /are also deemed true to 'normal 'people with no diagnosis/professionals? ) Sorry a lot of splurge. I hate exposing this unwell part of myself and really don't want to be negative or complicate things but maybe if I voice some of my struggles(despite the shame), others may also relate and we can find solutions? Thank you Emily. You do such hard, incredible work and are immensely generous. I'm so sorry about your puppy plans and I hope you find the dog that you can give the best home to asap. I'm sure someone else with a lifestyle more suited to the puppy you were hoping to home originally will come along and everyone will be happy and better off. Xxxx

Off topic but I love your sideboard/cabinet. Can I ask where it's from?! Not going to copy/clone your furniture don't worry but to know what shop sells that furniture style (currently furnishing a new flat)!!!❤️

Do you recommend going cold turkey and try and stop all actions and behaviours which tell your brain that weight gain is to be feared or is it ok to work on one thing at a time. Desperate to recover after a recent relapse 🙏❤️ so grateful for these videos. Hmmm certainly know the beliefs I hold have been ingrained by my mother and being in treatment with other unwell people for so many years and also society and diet culture which is out THERE CONSTANTLY!!!! Love the conversation tools. Especially the four "I ams"💪❤️🌈 Can totally relate to the doubt in early recovery. Who actually am I and what do I want to be doing with my life???!! Thank you so much once again 💗 Please share your post recovery journey. I think it will be very inspiring and interesting..... It will be motivating!!!!!

Thank you for your very inspiring videos! I would love to hear you talk about post-recovery, as tbh, I kind of fear a “normal” post-recovery life more than recovery itself.

Thank you so much and I certainly remember times when I shared that fear also: I hope that my recoverED sharing can even slightly reduce that fear because, as someone who has come out the other side, there really is nothing to fear. Life isn't butterflies and rainbows when you recover, its still life with all its ups and downs! But being out of energy deficit makes coping better, being more present, feeling more connected (with yourself, your loved ones, and the world around you) and you have SO much more brain space for life rather than just thinking about food/weight/recovery all the time xx

I'm 7 weeks in to "trying" to recover. I'm eating a lot (wont say how many calories) but I cant let go of calorie counting on an app, I tried to stop but 2 days later I have to reinstall again. I'm still weighing myself and my food/drink. My weird issue is about 'salt' - obviously while restricting I was hardly eating much salt each day but now its horrendous each day because of the all the foods Im now eating that I avoided before. Salt isnt good for you so how can I cut down on it but not restricting on the foods I want to eat? (Yes, I know I'm still restricting due to the calorie counting etc).

Don’t worry about eating a lot of salt in recovery. Your body is remarkably resilient and can easily handle extra salt in food. Your ED is drastically more harmful than salt, so go for it and eat your fear foods because your body is more than capable of dealing with salt (which is also essential for our health). Is it just your ED making an excuse to encourage you to avoid your fear foods? Take the plunge and go for it.

Hey Emily - Sorry to hear about the puppy but you’re right that you need to make the best decision for you and the pup. You’re getting kittens on Sunday still though, right? Anyway - Going off to think about my 4 I AMs now 😜 Big hug from Australia. 🦋
