Wonder if with tower assist you can simulate a sidestep by being offset of the runway, then "sidestep" back to it.

what if there is no a sidestep min line published on the approach plate for the original rwy. could I simply use a non-precision min of the original plate?

ATC usually would ask you when you are already below the clouds, in low IMC you shouldn’t be forced to switch runways. But if you still need a minimum, i guess the circling minimum should do. 🧑‍✈️ ✈️

Great channel. Question for you… In this instance where you are “cleared ILS 35R, sidestep 35L” as you come down the glideslope and get to the sidestep 35L minimum but don’t have the runway in sight, do you go missed or can you continue down the ILS and land on 35R (assuming it comes in site before the DA)?

I would go missed. I'd stay at the sidestep MDA until I reached the MAP and then execute the missed approach. If I was instructed to sidestep, continuing down to the 35R DA or, worse, landing on 35R would be big no-nos.

@@johnopalko5223 I believe this is the correct answer. if tower instructs you to sidestep there's probably a good reason for it, and if you don't follow the sidestep MDA just to land on a runway you were NOT cleared to land on- that's a sure pilot deviation
