What is the best way to install snaplock standing seam panels into a valley detail?
**********************************
Installing metal roofing panels around a valley detail takes time, precision, and attention to detail. It's important to get right not only for the functionality of the roofing system, but also to maintain a clean look across the assembly. Today on The Metal Roofing Channel, Matt Lane from Metal Construction Solutions and Installations is back demonstrating the easiest way to find, mark, and fabricate panel angles into a valley.

Would like to see exactly how the valley is laid down so that the panels lock into it. I have multiple valleys and would like to see exactly how the valley is made and connected to the decking. Thanks for the videos!!

How is the valley metal attached to the deck? Was it fastened and the the hem was folded to become the cleat?

may want to explain how you determined the angle and how you came up with 16 and 5/8ths

He started the process by getting a square measurement from the side of the panel. The measurement was 15 3/4 (width of a panel). When 15 3/4 measurement intersects with the where the valley pan and valley interlock you the make a mark on the side of the panel you were measuring from. Then measure from the mark you just made down to the tip of that same panel where it ends in the valley. That measurement ended up as 16 5/8. Now he will measure 16 5/8 up the right side of the next panel that needs to be cut. Draw a line from 16 5/8 on your right side mark down to zero on the left side. Thats your valley fold line. You must also account for a fold on the bottom of that valley panel before cutting it. Hope that helps. There's probably another vid somewhere explaining it better than I can

Glad I don't have any valleys. I just have where the hip meets the flat roof.

How do you come up with the number 16 and 5/8?

Take the width of the panel (in this case it's 15 3/4") and measure horizontally from the previous panel to mark where that line intersects with the valley cleat. Then, measure vertically from the bottom of the previous panel up to the mark you just made (in this case it's 16 5/8"). That vertical number is then used to create the angle on the next panel. Don't forget to add an inch for the hem. -Thad
